Guest Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 WI was watching YT vids on upcoming movies and saw the Ebony Blade referenced in a trailer for the new Blade movie, see pics. I don't normally go for vampire movies and have never followed the Series in print either but one has to admit that they are the same blade. Anyone care to enlighten me on this? Spoiler From the movie preview. from Skyrim.
Erebea Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 That is clearly a screen shot from Skyrim, whoever made the video took the image from USEP's ebony blade page. Figures that a channel that uses an AI voice to do the narration doesn't do any research and just picked the first image from google. 2

I agree it looks like a Skyrim screenshot... It, (the Ebony Blade) had a very short spot in the preview video, but it said that it was used by Blade to kill Vampires. Just curious if it is in the Blade vampire culture. Edited February 5, 2025 by Raven 54

I'm absolutely sure that the ebony blade shown is Skyrim's not Blade's. Having looked at a Blade (2025) trailer the weapons look completely different. Spoiler Edited February 5, 2025 by Erebea

That image in the video is literally the promotional image for the Ebony Blade in Elder Scrolls Online. Edited February 5, 2025 by kamoewarrior
FauxFurry Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 It is likely just a joke. After all, the Elder Scrolls Ebony Blade is inspired by the Marvel Comics weapon wielded by The Black Knight.

This blade is inspired by Japanese katana swords... these were, among other things, the model for the swords of the "Blades" Order... anyone who has played "Oblivion" knows their central function as the emperor's bodyguard. In "Skyrim" (Alduin's Wall) the origin or original function of these "blades" is revealed -> they were dragon hunters AND they come from the continent of "Akavir"... and were NOT humans! These "creatures" naturally brought their weapons (and armor) with them when they invaded - which were deliberately based on the eastern world (aka Japan!). The swordsmiths in Tamriel do not make katana blades - the katana blades that appear in "Oblivion" and "Skyrim" are all either ancient Akavir swords or the swords of the emperor's bodyguard. The blade shown in the picture is a Daedric artifact (from "Mephala") - the game developers of "Skyrim" were inspired by a Japanese katana or the "Akavir" blades for its shape. The whole thing is a topic about 15 years old! P.S. At the beginning of my blog story I made the forging of such a blade the topic.

I knew about Katana inspired blades, did not know of Oblivion since I have never played it. My reference was not to the Blades with their Japanese styled armor, sword & shield, but the movie Blade the vampire hunter, with Wesley Snipes as Blade. The trailer to the new release coming soon had the ebony blade in significance to the movie, looking for the lore there.
Japanese swords - including "Katana" - have been part of pop culture in the "West" (North America, Europe, etc.) for at least 50 years Even the "Highlander" (as a born Scot) preferred a Japanese sword instead of a "European knight's sword" So if a pseudo-vampire hunter (and yes, I know ALL the parts!) carries such a curved blade... what does that have to do with the Daedric artifact from Skyrim? At most, some external similarities... it's just supposed to look a bit exotic. The most important thing is whether the blade (adapted from Doug Marcaida from "Forge in Fire") -> is deadly

Miauzi Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 Vor 9 Stunden sagte Belegost: Hast du diese Krieger von Hammerfell gesehen? Hammerfell? Clearly the reference to the "Arabian world" ... with deserts and oriental scimitars. What do these have in common with Japanese blades? -> the folding technique when forging and the "etching" (through the acid bath) to bring out the pattern (created by the different types of steel) ... aka "Damascus" steel but the geometric shape of both types of blade is very different, apart from the curvature!

It's clear as day that you're German through and through. No sense of humour, unless its an engineering joke. So here's one for you: A neutrino walks into a bar. The barman asks: "Can I get you anything? Reply: "Thank you, but I'm just passing through". Edited February 6, 2025 by belegost

In the off chance that you really did not get the joke and not just trying to to be witty with needless explanation, that is a reference to a random dialogue from the game. Some people have taken this as an innuendo about Hammerfell natives, who are black, having such large penises or "swords" that they curve from their own mass. Edited February 6, 2025 by kamoewarrior

Now if someone could just train an AI model of Peter Kay's voice saying this, in the style of "Garlic Bread?!" Edited February 6, 2025 by Mez558
