VF Inspired Themes

Welcome! I'm Railgunner2160 and I've helped contribute to Vanilla Framework Continued's portrait sets, notably the Warhammer 40K inspired one. I got into doing some themed runs lately while playing Stellaris and wanted VF style portraits to go with them. As such I've created several sets to that end, however I feel they probably wouldn't meet the requirements for integration into Vanilla Framework due to either lack of portraits or being a mixture of different "species".

So I've decided to post the following themed portrait sets I created here as it's own mod.

Star Wars - Empire F69 H10 M24

Star Wars - Jedi/Clones  F110 H05 M23

Star Wars - Rebels F138 H20 M32

Treasure Planet F44 M08

Pirates F53 M04

Star Trek Federation F42 H13 M09

Gundam Seed F151 H12 M10

Mobile Suit Gundam Earth Forces F125 H10 MH20

Mobile Suit Gundam Zeon F91 H18 M09

XenoSexuals F46 H11 M10

A huge shoutout to @Mugginnato as the creator of the original Vanilla Framework.

Another huge shoutout to @ModderWhoModsThings for Vanilla Framework Continued carrying on and maintaining the VF Legacy.

@ModderWhoModsThingsFeel free to incorporate any portraits you feel meet your standards into Vanilla Framework Continued as I suspect some of the Star Wars would fit into existing species.

for some reason the star wars ones don't work and show up invisible in game

Apologies, Looks like I forgot to update the folder structure in the portrait files when I separated out the themes. Should be fixed now!!

in Dokument\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod\VF Inspired Themes - Star Wars\gfx\models

The Next folder is called "VFT", Rename it to "expanded"

That solved it for me.

These portraits were originally just for my personal usage as they might not have met the requirements for integration in VF itself and when I was making them I only used a single central mod. When I separated the portraits into their "Themes" so I could publish them I took the opportunity refine the folder structure a little bit. Looks like I forgot to update the structure in the portrait file when I separated the Star Wars portraits. Should be fixed with the 1.0.3 version of the Star Wars themes.

Does it require other mods? and what is the order? I tried installing the mod separately but nothing happened. Please help 😆

It's based off of Vanilla Framework and I haven't tested it without it so assume it needs Vanilla Framework Continued. I may look into seeing if I can make it work without it. As for order, each "theme" is self contained and order doesn't really matter.

Hi there, I tried this mod but those portraits are just invisible in game so I tried to look into mod folders and found some curiosity: the portraits are not visible even in folder but they're visible in VF folders. I am sending pictures to compare.

PS.: I found on reddit that Stellaris should have pretty specific requirements for their .dds files, but I don't understand them as I am no dev.

I think your download got corrupted, I just downloaded a fresh copy of the zip and I'm not seeing the issue you are.  Try redownloading and see if that fixes it and let me know if the issue persists.

Edit: Check and see if the Vanilla Framework Hum27 portraits are working right. If those are working it's not an issue with the portraits from this mod. How do I know? Simple, I'm the one who provided the portraits for Hum27 ;)

I tried re-download like 5 times already and still same problem + some of VF portraits have same problem. I wonder why is that but it seems I am just not destined to play with this mod, but I think life goes on.

Since you are the first reporting this kind of issue I've got a couple of questions. Are you running windows or linux? Also what are you using to unpack the mod? I know I set it to .zip but I mainly use winrar instead of the built in zip program on windows so I'm not sure if that's a issue. Beyond this mod which of the VF portraits are you having issues with? Since it is also affecting VF I want to try and see if I can narrow down any possible issues.

I am running on Windows and unpacking with winrar. It was affecting some of portraits in VF but also last two/three full Necroids packs.

But I was trying this and that and tried to convert .dds files into .png and then back to .dds and somehow it worked.

Glad you found a workaround, weird issue nonetheless. Enjoy!

A quick question for you now that I think about it, what format for dds and the mipmaps did you use? Just curious.

The Treasure Planet pack males don't seem to be working. The portrait was invisible but showed 8 options. When I switched to female ruler they showed properly, switch back to male ruler and the image stayed as the last shown female portrait.

The gundam portraits worked fine, although I admit I don't really care for the male portraits that have female characters in them...

Still, I like these sets.

Thanks for the compliment, and my apologies regarding the Treasure Planet set. I missed renaming the males when I copied my template for the portraits file. Uploading the fix now!

Hey! Sorry for late response, I had some health issues and had to be hospital for 2 months. Unfortunately I can't recall now how I did it... but if I potentionally remember I'll let you know it's just now I have hard time to remember anything past 5 months.

However I was wondering (and I don't want to be rude or anything) if you ever considered doing Asari portraits from Mass Effect? I just think it's kind of portraits that lacks here and would be probably nice to have. But not forcing you to anything just a little suggestion.
