hogsmaws Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 is there a mod or way to make a sim an offspring of another sim after a while? when you create a sim or download from your gallery there seems to be a time limit to where you can make that sim relationship parent/offspring. then after a while it closes where those options are no longer offered in CAS. is there a way or a mod that can open that back up?
Guest Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 (edited) Yeah, there is, without a mod no less. Just open the command console (left control + left shift + c on your keyboard), then type in "testingcheats true", then type in "cas.fulleditmode" (without quotation marks). If typed in correctly, you should see a confirmation message after the testingcheats true command, saying sth like "testing cheats enabled" (I see it daily but I don't pay much attention to how exactly it's spelled). You get no confirmation message after the second command though. Then, while in game (live mode), press and hold left shift and while still holding it, left-click on the sim, it can be any sim in the household you want to edit. You'll not only be able to add new household members but also change their name, age, preferences, traits, their body parts, etc. (just as if you were creating a brand new sim). Ah, gotcha. That's odd. It might be caused by the sims being the same age, then? The parent has to be older than a child (at least one age group above, so if sim 1 is a young adult, sim 2 (parent) must at least be adult or elder, if sim 1 is an adult, sim 2 can only be an elder).

Here's what I found on the EA forums regarding a similar issue to yours: https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-general-discussion-en/trying-to-add-a-child-to-an-existing-family-solved/2588335

snowdog04 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 I think you should be able to do it using MCCC. If you don't use that already, get it, it does all sorts of cool stuff. It's on CurseForge, or you can google it to find Deaderpool's main site.

Yep, in MCCC we trust. 6 hours ago, hogsmaws said: in CAS. if you want to see what i'm talking about goto a sim adult family you have that you've played for a while already. then dl a teenager in cas. you will not be able to make that teenager a offspring. you can only make them a sibling . I'll try to replicate the issue when I have the time- I'll get back to you.

However I tried, I was unable to replicate your issue. First, I made sure to let the game run on max speed for 2 full in-game weeks. I tried doing it without testingcheats and cas.fulleditmode, so through the Manage worlds->Edit household->Add or modify family members in Create a Sim method, and I tried it with both a randomly generated new sim (add sim option, the plus symbol next to your played sim) and a sim from the gallery, just had to edit relations with other sims in household (the two sims icon above the traits panel, in the area where you can edit the sim's name, age, gender, etc.) and set the sim to be the child of my already exisiting sim. I clicked on the checkmark in the relations tab, finished CAS by clicking on the checkmark in the bottom right corner, got back into the household from the "manage worlds" screen and everything worked, upon opening the relationship panel it was clearly visible that the first sim (young adult) is the mother to the teenager sim, in both the case of a sim from the gallery and a randomly generated one it worked. I also tried it through the use of cheats, as in, I put the testingcheats true and cas.fulleditmode commands into the console, and then held shift, left-clicked on my sim and clicked on "Modify in CAS", where I just added the sims, one from the gallery and one random one, then I just edited both sim's relation to my played sim. Again, success, nothing wrong, returned to the game after finishing CAS, all sims had respective tags in the relationship panel. So, might be some weird mod issue in your game, any last exception available? Maybe someone who can read that damn thing could help you if you provided one.
