nehaberlan Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Hi, I have a follower mod. I wanted to make some modification on her face in the Race Menu. After I created my follower's modified face on PC, I used Nif Merge. I converted to SE. I putted/replaced the new .nif & .dds files in the correct folders. When I started the game, my follower had brown face. The only thing that I remembered was Ctrl+F4 in the Creation Kit. That fixed the problem. However, it started to use the original/old face, not the face I created via Race Menu. One year ago, I used Nif Merge again for my another follower. I don't recall any brown face problem, and/or how I did before. If you can help anyway, I'll appreciate.

This is the technical support forum for classic Skryim/LE. I'm pretty sure you've been told this before. You may have better luck getting assistance by posting your issue in the technical support forum for your game version: https://www.loverslab.com/forum/73-technical-support-skyrim-special-edition/

Thank you for your suggestion by the way. I ask the same question to SE Technical Support. Edited October 25, 2024 by nehaberlan

I am familiar with this particular issue but I only use LE so I can only offer advice for a workflow that works on LE which is why I suggested you ask in the SE forum. Brown face can occur for many reasons. In this case it seems most likely to be due to incompatible facegen data. To clarify: Facegen = face .nif and facetint .dds file Facetint .dds files use different format than face diffuse textures. Make sure it is saved in the proper format. Also, as you probably figured out the face got overwritten when you exported facegen from the Creation Kit. Quote I putted/replaced the new .nif & .dds files in the correct folders. From this it is not clear whether by "new .nif" you're referring to the one produced with NifMerge or the one exported by Racemenu. The face .nif exported by Racemenu will not work as facegen. You must merge individual shapes from the RM .nif to the one exported by the CK using NifMerge. SE uses Packed Tangents. If you exported the original facegen using the SE Creation Kit it should have these enabled. Make sure the shader settings are the same after you merge the modified shapes using NifMerge. The easiest way to do this is to make a copy of the CK-exported .nif and copy/paste the shader branches from its shapes to the one you merged to with NifMerge. Edited October 25, 2024 by Kastagir

I have to figure out them first. No problem about .nif & .dds. I have a little bit knowledge about them.

I deleted the new ones, and replaced with the original ones by copying/pasting them. It worked. Later, I'll convert these LE versions to SE. I hope that I won't get any trouble. PS: In the forum of this program, I couldn't see an information that has easiest way to understand like yours. Thank you so much... Here is a screenshot that I took, after I modified the face of my follower: Edited October 26, 2024 by nehaberlan 1
Kastagir Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Glad it worked. More glad you stuck with it. Most mods have poor support and inadequate documentation and if it doesn't work for 100% of modders with no experience it gets dismissed. Fixing things like this is helpful because it gives you a list of things to try next time you're running into a problem with a mod. 1
