FNIS vs Nemesis vs Pandora - What's the deal? (Sept. 2024)

So for the longest time ever since Nemesis became "mainstream," I've been running it alongside FNIS for Creature Animations. First running FNIS then disabling it and keeping its output when running Nemesis, which has worked great.

I recently found out about Pandora and figured out it supports Creatures, and I've been wondering what's the best way to do animations. Can I replace FNIS with Pandora and keep Nemesis at the same time? Can Pandora just do it all and I can get rid of FNIS AND Nemesis? I just don't know exactly. So I'm hoping someone else can help me out with some info.

Any replies and recommendations are much appreciated!

Thanks! I did see some other threads but was wondering maybe making a more recent thread would've been better :)

I tried Pandora as a replacement for FNIS (only) on a 1.5.97 game version and ran into issues with 2 animations. These animations were from some "cover self" mod most likely. There's a few cases where I've copied select animations from other mods to add to my own (private) stuff. Sometimes what happens is the behavior file has more animations in it, than hkx files I'm copying over. This results in FNIS throwing inconsistency errors, but I find it works regardless. Perhaps the correct answer would be to use the developer tools of FNIS to rebuild the behavior file to only include the animations I'm interested in, but quoting some American lady: "Nobody got time for that!".

I'm not specifically blaming Pandora for this failure, but you could look at it this way: FNIS may be more forgiving, or slighly more compatible in some rare instances. Especially if you're doing silly stuff like me. You may want to do a once-over after running Pandora for the first time to make sure you didn't lose something.

I run the exact same setup as the topic author (FNIS output in MO2 passed on to Nemisis with its own seperate output dir that overrides FNIS).

Since you already have such a setup working, what's the downside to keeping it? Sure, Nemesis crashes ever now and then, but you can just restart it and press generate again. No harm done. Best argument i can come up with is, we are talking about 30 seconds worth of time saved and the convenience of only needing 2 clicks instead of 4. That's about it?

In that case, i'd argue stick with your current setup until Pandora is perfect, or offers a new feature you want. Otherwise, 30 seconds and 2 mouseclicks saved is not worth rocking a perfectly stable boat.

If you use Vortex with FNIS you'll have a convenience of 0 clicks. Vortex can be set up to auto-run FNIS every time it detects an animation mod being installed or uninstalled. And can do it seperately for every load order profile you create and will auto-run it every time you change profiles and create an output file specific to that profile. To the point I barely even remember FNIS is there. Can't do it with Nemesis or Pandora.

Not saying its better or worse. Just saying it's an option and it's VERY convenient.
