Tinkering Solderbro Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 Sure all know about Steam where the versions above 1.5.97 are shoot out like rapid fire. But meanwhile and mostly secret he forced GOG to do the same. They startet with 1.6.569, jumped to 1.6.1170 and soon after that to 1.6.1176. Now GOG cashed in the downgrade function, like Steam, gone,,,,,,, To mod SSE we need 1.5.97 or 1.6.640 (Steam) or 1.6.569 (GOG), the version most mods are available. But Todd the destroyer put the gun on it and fires new incompatible versions. I searched my 2 computers and recognized, that even an unused GOG was upgraded forced to broken state. Normally i would like to use a 1.6.659 and put it away from a a launcher, but there's no way to get hand on the few older files. What's your solution to this problem? I'm back on Skyrim-LE because it's version is now fixed and the mods are alive on it. Do someone have an archive with the GOG 1.6.659 older files to revert a newer version?

Perhaps the greatest feature from GOG is that you don't have to install Galaxy to play games. Only way for a GOG game to update on its own as I see it, is through Galaxy. I'd say you brought this upon yourself. But, I realize that is not helpful in this situation. 22 hours ago, Tinkering Solderbro said: What's your solution to this problem? Keeping a local copy of everything I have ever downloaded. Again, not helpful, yes yes. Say I lost my local copy, what then? I realize we're meant to own nothing these days, but unfortunately I do not play by those rules. I pay for something, I own it. So, applying that logic (assuming you agree), have you asked the one legged man with a magnificent beard for help? 1

Yes GOG changed their policy, i had bought 1.6.659 but my fail was to install galaxy too. So it silently upgraded to 1.6.1176. If i ever get hand on the old version, i will do a full image backup. Even Lutris has changed their installer and put 1.6.1176 on the ssd now.🤮 A working solution for now, seems to be a downgrade of steam version to 1.6.640, found a video at youtube howto download the old files through the steam console. Second step is a hard write protect for the appmanifest file, so steam seems unable to update the version. Sometimes i'm happy about the old LE, it's unchanged with all available mods.😁

Thanks for the heads-up, this was my "plan B". 1 hour ago, Tinkering Solderbro said: Second step is a hard write protect for the appmanifest file This is not enough on Windows, I suspect the same goes for Linux. Set the game directory itself to chmod 774, and run your game launchers with a different user - one that is not the owner of the game files nor in the owner's user group. Run your games as yourself. I do not know if or how you can run a game from the launcher as someone else. Perhaps look into the setuid bit if there's no built-in function for this.
