Constant crashing, and I'm getting sick of it.

I've tried to come back to skyrim from fallout new vegas, but I keep running into the same problem. I keep crashing after only a few minutes of play.  

 

Always hard CTD. No messageboxes.

 

I've tried cutting down mods and that doesn't work. I've tried ENB Boost but that doesn't work. I've tried optimising textures with Ordenador but that doesn't stop it.

Sometimes I get a very weird graphical glitch when I go into menus (which incidently is often when I crash, but it crashes a lot outside of menus too). A weird collection of triangles will appear and rapidly change color and grow/shrink/radiate/etc.

 

 

 

I'm sick of this. I'm sick of having to cut down my mods to a very very very sparse game in some vain hope that I can get some stability while I see others with load lists twice as big play stablely. And it's only Skyrim that gives me this sort of trouble. Fallout NV never does it.

I'm really not surprised that you crash often.

 

Requiem, SoS, Wet & Cold, FIO - these are all very heavy script mods and on top of all that you have Interesting NPC's, Immersive Patrols and other mods which add actors to the world. SoS, W&C and to some extent Requiem and FIO will all have to run more and more the more actors you have in your immediate area and it will cause an overload of the Papyrus system and crash you.

 

The glitch you see in your menu is from Safetyload. Turn it off outside of load screens, it should also stabilize your game somewhat when not in a load screen to do so if you have a lot of crashes right now. If you don't know how to do this, download the 1.1-test version and overwrite the 1.2 version you have now, it is the exact same just the basic setting is different for when it should be active.

 

You say you have SLI 560s - do they have 1 GB each or is that 2 GB each cards? Because with SLI the total amount is not interesting, only the smallest amount of the cards in a SLI will count. This is because in SLI the cards will keep the same inventory loaded in memory.

While ESM > ESP is correct your assumption is wrong.

 

The latest Unofficial patches are ESMs that have kept the .esp file ending for the sake of compatibility. The load order above is correct.

it's what the USKP authors resommend and what BOSS does, but only a few mod manager show this order.
in the end it doesn't matter anyway, as the engine will load all ESMs first anyway, so the the result will this:

Yeah, it's only with the latest 2.x patches that they have turned into ESM files. Except for Hearthfire which is now also a ESM file but the versioning is different, for some reason.

As for your constant crashes and unstabilities, its pretty simple. Skyrim is a xbox game with a very old engine, it cant handle many things: ie many scripted mods plus hi res texture packs. I recommend you to chose between mods that adds scripts, respawns, navmeshes or mods that adds basically, textures bigger than 512 in therms of maps, landscapes and structures specially. Thats just to beging with, but without taking that in consideration, reviewing loadorder and papyrus settings is kinda futile...

Maybe you are overloading your pc with too many script intensive mods at the same time. i had the problem you described too previously then i installed modOrganizer. i can just switch some mods off and now hardly crash.

 

after viewing your load order there are many things that can cause the crash. first and foremost you will be crashing allot because you have these mods all working in 1 game:

I can play these 2 just fine now:

But i need to disable all other mods in my list to be able to play with these 2 active.

Fire and Ice is major drain. if you use Asis and you set the spawn of enemy too high you will be able to even crash fasted pc because there will many npc using fire an ice spell at the same time. you will then cripple your entire pc this way.

 

So if you want to play the mods in your list you will have no other choice to start deactivating the most draining once or you will keep crashing every second.

 

 

 

Always hard CTD. No messageboxes.

if you crash this way, because you run out of memory. there is a hard cap on skyrim with is 3.1 gig of memory and if you pass over this value you will crash without a warning.

Well, I have a few suggestions, so here goes.

 

1)  Try starting a new game without the unofficial patches.  From my own experiences, they gave me nothing but trouble.

2)  Quest mods like Falskaar, the Frontier, and the Domain can conflict with other mods.  And Falskaar is not as stable as the mod author says it is.

3)  Civil War Overhaul, Dragon Combat Overhaul, Fire and Ice, Wet and Cold, and Schlongs are really script intensive mods.  You can disable a few features in Wet and Cold to make it play better.  From personal experience Dragon Combat Overhaul is a bit wacky, and it left a lot of errors in my papyrus logs.  I think you're supposed to have one Schlong esp active, either the muscular one or the average one, not both.

4) Immersive Patrols,  I'm not too sure about this mod, I uninstalled it and my ctd's went down,  might want to think about getting rid of it for the time being.

5) SKSE up to date?

 

Really all the advice I can give, hope you get it sorted out.

It's your texture packs. Get rid of them (except from armor and body textures, those are fine). I'm guessing it SMIM, I doubt you picked out only what you needed from the pack and installed the whole thing. It's very tasking on Skyrim to load high poly meshes, first thing I learned in school about making game models is low poly is always better for large spaces. If your modeling a home for architecture purposes, then go high poly but never do that for games. Personally I use the barrels and skeletons. If your crashes persist then you know it's another mod.

 

Too many script heavy mods usually wont cause your game to crash but the scripts wont work right. They will get backed up, might even throw a few papyrus errors if that happens. If they do cause you game to crash it means that one or more of them have poorly done scripts.

 

Edit: He's my load order for reference. I have a lot of script heavy mods. I keep them about the 7F mark though do to the SKSE bug. Only time I crash is when HDT decides it needs to be a dick but it saves so who cares. Without HDT in I can play for around 10 hours on a weekend with no crashes. Load Order is at 217.

Really all the advice I can give, hope you get it sorted out.

 

You should be careful about the advice you give, can cause more harm than good if it's based only on personal experience.

 

1) telling someone to remove the unofficial patches should never be given as advice. They are obviously using them to avoid the vanilla bugs.

 

2) Falskaar has it's own world space... It wont cause problems in the Skyrim world space so it's not the problem. Doesn't have any compatibily issues do to it using most of its own resources.

 

3) You can activate as many schlongs as your want and schlongs isn't script intensive, it only runs a pass for each actor so unless you have 50 naked men running around on 1 cell it wont cause problem, if you do have 50 naked men it will just back up the script while it loads each schlong. Once a schlong is decided for an actor the script runs faster. Dragon Combat Overhaul is fine, its only current problem is that it turns off some features when loading a save with a dragon attacking in the cell. And papyrus isn't a crash log so...yeah.

 

Civil War Overhaul and Wet & Cold have been know offenders for CTDs for people on this forum and others. Unlike schlongs of skyrim Wet & Cold is constantly running its scripts and some of the scripts are every hard to optimize the author has improved the mod a lot but I still see tons of reports that the mod has been the cause of crashes even after the updates. Civil War Overhaul is just buggy (Bethesda's fault not the authors) not even Arthmoor will touch the civil war...

 

4) Will cause problems depending on PC specs. May be better to take this out for some people.

How timely -- I stripped out architecture, dungeon, landscape and vegetation mods, after I realized that those high-poly, high-res mods were taxing the game engine -- and by extension Papyrus, so I was getting the CTDs.

 

The high-poly meshes may have their place in presentation such as architectural models or for static scenery, but yeah, in most cases they're good in a game only if you have the top-tier gaming rig to handle all of it and do a lot of screencapping.

Meshes arent that bad, at least the only mod I use (static meshes improvements) it's not at all a performance/vram hitter (not much, i thnk), but hi res textures are all, in every single case. But backt to the load list: Sooo let's see. Get rid of Skyrim HD (rather pointless if i'm running Winter/Summer/Tropical  Skyrim anyway). And Tamriel Reloaded. Should I get rid of the HD Map, nord banner, and lush trees too? Or is that alright? Also getting rid of Lush Grass/Trees (again, pointless if I'm running Winter or Tropical Skyrim)

 

Requiem: Thing is, it's either Requiem or its Skyre. And I really don't like Skyre (Reproccer is fucking useless.) 

 

Getting rid of SIMM, Run For Your Lives, When Vampires Attack, ELFX, DSI. Axe Fire and Ice Overhaul (Overhyped stuff), Dragon Combat Overhaul (doesn't do much that Deadly Dragons doesn't already do) Wet and Cold.

 

ASIS: Thing is, I find it's just not the same without having swarms of dragur/bandits. Feels too... sparse, especially with followers.  But I know there's basically 4 choices:

ASIS, Skyrim More Spawns, Sands of Time (or whatever its called these days), and Nightmare. Oh and warzones but even I'm smart enough to avoid that like the plague.  So, I put the question to you guys: Which one is better for me to pick?

Upgrades wont help you. Skyrim is an xbox game with a very old engine, no matter if you try to run it in a computer from the Nasa... The limitations will be the same, sadly.

 

Also I dont understand you getting rid from mods like ELFX. They're pretty stable and causes no troubles... I mean you can keep all the good mods as long as you arent too greedy with eyecandy textures and such things and meshes maybe too.

My personal advice would be to ged rid of Wet&Cold. It's an awesome mod and the author has really done what he can to make the mod not CTD your game every 5 seconds but if you run any other mod it's basically Wet&Cold or  any other mods. Mods that use scripts will be spammed with Wet&Cold's scripts while trying to execute their own scripts and mods that add NPCs to your game will even add more stress on your game because Wet&Cold runs the scripts for those newely added NPCs, too.

 

I'd say that even Sands of Time is less demanding than Wet&Cold. Sands of Time scripts run fairly often but Wet&Cold's scripts run all the time, except when you are indoors.

Requiem: Thing is, it's either Requiem or its Skyre. And I really don't like Skyre (Reproccer is fucking useless.) 

 

Getting rid of SIMM, Run For Your Lives, When Vampires Attack, ELFX, DSI. Axe Fire and Ice Overhaul (Overhyped stuff), Dragon Combat Overhaul (doesn't do much that Deadly Dragons doesn't already do) Wet and Cold.

 

ASIS: Thing is, I find it's just not the same without having swarms of dragur/bandits. Feels too... sparse, especially with followers.  But I know there's basically 4 choices:

ASIS, Skyrim More Spawns, Sands of Time (or whatever its called these days), and Nightmare. Oh and warzones but even I'm smart enough to avoid that like the plague.  So, I put the question to you guys: Which one is better for me to pick?

 

You took out too much... well to much stuff that had nothing to do with your problem lol. Run for your lives and dragon combat overhaul can stay. You never said that you were crashing every time you saw a dragon

But yeah looking at what you had in there.... I'm surprised that you were able to load your game. Was safety load getting you in?

Eh no, strangely I never have it crash on cell load. It's always when I'm already in the cell or I try to open menus.

To be really rough and fair: as long as a mod is not poorly made (4k textures when covering a chopstick/scripts that are really badly written) there is no reason to drop things out at all and in the former of the examples - use a texture optimizer to fix it if you really want to use that texture. It's mostly about making them work together and be smart in how you choose them. If you have a slow computer then yeah, having a ton of scripted mods will cause issues - but only if your CPU really is running at its maximum all the time or often times during game play. Otherwise, no, your RAM/CPU won't have any impact on how the game will perform. What will happen is that the Papyrus system gets overloaded, which usually happens far before any modern CPU says "argh!".

 

As someone mentioned before - scripts usually don't make you crash, they instead make you lag - which incidentally can lead to crashes if it gets too bad - what really makes you crash is that Skyrim has shit poor memory handling. These days there are a number of mods which helps to alleviate this: safety load, stable ugrid to load, nitpick etc. all do their part to make your game more stable.

 

Regarding VRAM usage - with ENBoost you can have way more texture mods than your VRAM should allow you to have. I made a copy of my data folder and gave it to my sibling to play on their computer which have a 1.5GB VRAM and with ENBoost I was so surprised over how well it ran. Almost no lag. Not to mention that you won't have 3.1 GB crashes with ENBoost. You just won't get that high RAM usage on the Skyrim executable.

 

But all things add up. If you add Wet & Cold, then perhaps having a bunch of NPC adding mods isn't what you should do. If you run Skyrim Immersive Creatures it might be a good idea to turn off the Random Cell Respawner. And so on.

 

One thing that people tend to overlook is the importance of using TES5Edit to clean out mods that add/change/remove things that are then later overwritten by yet another mod. If you, for instance, have a mod which changes the appearance of a NPC and then yet another mod that does it again, perhaps it would be wise to remove the first one or at least its references for it. The same goes for textures, weapons and the like. Because what will happen is that they'll get loaded, then scrapped, then loaded again. And as we have already concluded - Skyrims memory handling is crap. So do that often enough and "hello desktop".

 

This is my mod list, and it's stable. Granted I've edited the hell out of most of the mods, but it goes to prove that it IS possible to do it right. I just played 2,5 hours without a single crash. On top of what is visible here I have around 130ish texture/mesh mods. However there ARE places where I will instantly CTD if I don't fast travel there - such as the Cyrodiil border (known to those who play the Aldmeri Dominion series of quests) because there are three mods that at things to that area.

I've tried to come back to skyrim from fallout new vegas, but I keep running into the same problem. I keep crashing after only a few minutes of play.  

 

Always hard CTD. No messageboxes.

 

I've tried cutting down mods and that doesn't work. I've tried ENB Boost but that doesn't work. I've tried optimising textures with Ordenador but that doesn't stop it.

Sometimes I get a very weird graphical glitch when I go into menus (which incidently is often when I crash, but it crashes a lot outside of menus too). A weird collection of triangles will appear and rapidly change color and grow/shrink/radiate/etc.

I'm sick of this. I'm sick of having to cut down my mods to a very very very sparse game in some vain hope that I can get some stability while I see others with load lists twice as big play stablely. And it's only Skyrim that gives me this sort of trouble. Fallout NV never does it.

ISSUES AND BUG FIXES

0) First of all, almost all problems happen because of things you did to your game

or OS, various fake memory tweakers, boosters are at first place. Antiviruses, bad drivers,

overlay monitoring, capturing, overclocking, etc etc etc prevent normal functionality.

Also if you configured game incorrectly by modifying skyrimprefs.ini, it's also lead you to

nowhere. This prooved many times, not just by one user, you all do the same mistakes.

1) If you have crashes at startup, run as admin and make sure no other

software hooking in to game process, for example some antiviruses, screen capturing tools, videocard monitoring or overclocking. Afterburner, D3D Overrider, EVGA, ATI Tray Tools,

DXTory, Fraps, XFire - some versions of these software incompatible with

wrapper version of ENBSeries, so use injector version or disable those utils.

Also Skyrim Performance Monitor may produce this behavior, try without it or

set in it's options D3D9 mods compatibility.

2) Lower performance when borderless window mode turned on together with vsync,

to fix disable any of them.

3) If stuttering bother too much, edit enblocal.ini file vriables ExpandSystemMemoryX64, ReduceSystemMemoryUsage(especially this one), DisableDriverMemoryManager.

4) ALT-TAB not work in fullscreen mode when EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=true

5) Game by default forcing vsync to be on, in enblocal.ini parameter exist which

toggle it, so modify if you have issues with screen tearing.

6) Infinite loading happen when frame rate is too high, use fps limiter or vsync

vua EnableFPSLimiter=true or EnableVSync=true in enblocal.ini.

7) (obsolette issue for latest version) Creation Kit (CK) is not work properly, delete d3d9.dll (or don't run injector

version if it used instead of wrapper) or use another enblocal.ini which don't have

memory fixes enabled. Future versions may work, not sure yet.

8) Pixelated screen means that you have borderless window enabled in enblocal.ini. This is good feature for those users who know what to do with it.

9) Strange behavior of game physics, flying objects - you have too much high fps, turn on VSync or FPSLimiter in enblocal.ini, this is game bug.

10) ALT-TAB not work, amount crashes not reduced, stuttering and textures are

missing. This probably because enbhost.exe process not started by the mod because of

admin rights issues. This problem not occur when ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=false set.

11) Red text message appear in the left top corner. So, why the hell everybody say

it's error message? If you don't see "error" word in it, then it's not an error, but important

notice or warning.

12) Graphic effects do not work after installing this. To turn on ENBSeries as graphic

mod (ENBoost use only patch of it), set parameter UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false

in enblocal.ini.

13) Stuttering with newest versions or low performance at some locations means

that your VRAM is full, press F4 key to free it (can be assigned to another key via KeyFreeVRAM

in enblocal.ini file). Also you may change ReservedMemorySizeMb to fix stuttering. Later i'll

do tweaks against this issue.

14) Process enbhost.exe not working, so memory reduction is not effective as with it, if hdtPhysicsExtensions mod installed.

Sure, I uninstall everything, and attempt to reinstall my mods...

 

... and now wrye bash doesn't want to fucking work. even after uninstalling it and reinstalling it 20 fucking times, deleting my skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini and starting the game to rebuild them.

 

 

Fuck this. Fuck this fucking game to fucking hell. Fuck beth for making this rushed shitty excuse for a game. And fuck me for not being smart enough to even get anything right like everyone else. I'm fucking sick of seeing everyone able to run 200 plus mods stability but having me crash with less than 50 no matter what I remove or dont remove.
