Rayblue Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I recently got a FPS boost and a CTD-free playthrough by removing some high-poly meshes, asides from optimizing textures. This and using the proper uExterior/uInterior settings (lesson: never make them small as 6 and 1 respectively) helped cut down stutter.
hryh23k9823u Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I came myself at a point of 'max stability', when I can pretty much say my game is 99.99% stable. Now instead of cdt's I 'only' get lags, somewhat alliviated with HiAlgo. I have two profiles right now, the fat stable one I mention, and this one plus sexlab mods which is a pain in the ass (in both cases I run multiply spawn/npc mods with Wet and Cold). Uno Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Ok, I'm intrigued now...which are the good stuff to pick from SMIM package? I'm downloading the lastest version rigth noaw. @Evasiadutch: Some of that info from ENB documentation is old as my grandma, you should reconsider it, for example the HDT/ENB conflict.
ballsy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 You'll need perseverance. That's all I have to say, really. I spent the first half of this year pretty much just troubleshooting Skyrim during my free time. It was hard as fuck, but it helped me grow as someone on the user-end of Skyrim. I feel that fucking up your install is fairly necessary for learning the ways of perfecting your game. I've probably had just under 5 complete re-installs ever since getting the game in 2011. Neovalen's guide here http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Neovalen/Skyrim_Revisited was the first to teach me anything about TES5Edit that wasn't just cleaning your mods. Examine the patterns for his patches, looking at how he resolves conflicts between mods. Learn the CK, even if briefly. It'll make a lot more sense when you're looking at mods and whatever data is within. Start making your own patches. Make the changes reversible by taking advantage on how packages work in Wrye Bash. Use the description box to record important information on mods (is the plugin clean? are the contents edited from the original package?). Use marker packages to organize packages in Wrye. There's a lot more to say, but I can't get it all typed out since doing so would be equivalent to writing a book. Go to that link. Learn the CK. Read STEP if you haven't already. You just gotta keep going. I learn something new about stability and Skyrim at least once every few days. My esm/esp count totals to 219 and I have just over 600 packages in Wrye. The setup runs stable and I now have a very, very systemized approach to finding the root cause of reproducible CTDs. I create replacement esps to resolve mod compatibilities in order to avoid the 255 limit, despite that being a shitty choice in comparison to a patch. I would've never imagined myself doing what I just described above a year ago on this same day. Take a break from Skyrim if you need to, but know that you will attain knowledge and practice on stability if you stick it out long enough. I've had plenty of those "fuck this game" moments, but I'm glad I put up with it. Being a modder with CK knowledge will help fucktons with troubleshooting your own install, and having good user-end knowledge and practice will help in setting you up in becoming a great modder. It's a win-win. Still making lokirs tomb, lol. Dem compatibility patches take forever.
shinji72 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Wet&cold + footprints + player headtracking these combo is considered an heavy tool on papyrus. Saddly I can renounce any of them! You can run wet&Cold with no problem but with some judgement. It depends on what other mod you use, of course. If you have instability and think wet&cold could be aggravating the situation, go to the MCM menu. Disamble the checks for "near heart source" and "under cover". On the same page, raise to the maximum the refresh bar (12 seconds). You will lose some minor functionality (PC will keep their breath even when near a campfire). But this should relieve you papyrus...
hryh23k9823u Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 merged and bashed patches also helps a lot into stability but I know the feeling, I can't live without wet n cold, and player headrtacking (i dont care about footprints tho), but its demonstrated that they both can get along with heavy loadorders. Difficult, but they can indeed.
shinji72 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 The glitch you see in your menu is from Safetyload. Turn it off outside of load screens, it should also stabilize your game somewhat when not in a load screen to do so if you have a lot of crashes right now. If you don't know how to do this, download the 1.1-test version and overwrite the 1.2 version you have now, it is the exact same just the basic setting is different for when it should be active. Thank you Vixen! Because sometimes, i did see the little multicolored triangles in the menus. Nice to know it's caused by safetyload (which is great by the way).
cornbreadtm Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Ok, I'm intrigued now...which are the good stuff to pick from SMIM package? I'm downloading the lastest version rigth noaw. @Evasiadutch: Some of that info from ENB documentation is old as my grandma, you should reconsider it, for example the HDT/ENB conflict. It's not that simple. But to put it in an easy to understand way you only want 2 of the improved meshes in any one area at once. So if you get the forge and the signs you're good. but If there are like 5 improvements at once... well first of you'll notice a loading difference which is an indicator of the fact that the game is loading more data. Safety load removes the infinite load screens but like several idiots (lets be honest if your game had infinite load screens and you put safety load in without removing any of your texture/mesh packs you're an idiot) on the Nexus have stated safety load will just make you CTD in the load screen if you have too much to load. Obviously if that happens you want to reduce the amount of objects you have modified in that cell. SO pretty much either you just go through the list and pick a few that you think look nice without going over broad or you go overboard, have problems, and end up having to go back to step one. I've personally had problems loading my game at the sky forge when I used the SMIM forge mesh. I've seen others complain about the same problem so I'm sure its not just me but I've stopped using it since then. I love the animated barrels and the improved skeletons in draugr ruins. Both of these are seen often and have big noticeable improvements. The chains mesh upgrades are awesome but its rare that I stop and look at some chain so I don't use them (no point in using something if your not even going to look at it right). I don't use any meshes that are common in inns do to the fact that a lot of mods add npcs (Immersive NPCs <3) to them and I rather have trouble loading the extra bodies and not some table... SMIM is literally my first and favorite mod from the Nexus but It has gotten big over the years like a pet sabercat, so you can't play the same games with it that you use to without getting bitten.
