CBBE vs Fusion Girl for AAF and Physics Support in 2024

Hey everyone,

Wanted to see what peoples experience was with using CBBE + Physics (3ba + OCBP? OCBP on its own?) with AAF/Zex skeleton. I know Fusion girl works for AAF but there are just far far more mods requiring CBBE for clothing, presets, followers, and NPC overhauls on Nexus. I've only gotten AAF working with Fusion girl (last year), however, and the guide I'm following also uses Fusion girl along with 60% of the mods on this forum recommending it. Is AAF optimized for FG? There also seems to be more, possibly less buggy physics mods for FG vs CBBE, is that the main reason everyone uses it?

Background:

Trying to follow Aylis's guide for a fully modded Fallout4 as her Skyrim guide, while a tad outdated, still works wonderfully with just a few changes. After over a week of debug... the F4 guide, while newer, is somehow far far more broken than the Skyrim guide. While I've debugged most of the issues out (and done a large post in that thread with updates/issues), her combination of Fusion Girl, High poly head, and seamless reskin mods leaves my PCs looking terrible and obviously bugged. I've done quite a bit of debugging on her modlist for PCs but never managed to get a good looking combo for the ones that don't have rust face or missing textures. Giving up and going to build my own PC version (with strippers and booze obviously) from either CBBE or FG.

Personally, use FG for the body type
Skin: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/50793

and nuke HiPoly as honestly, you don't need it, but if you really have to have it, just read the skins modpage about it, essentially just don't equip Seamless HiPoly on anybody and use HiPoly basic or w/e

Edit: Realised i didnt actually answer your questions. People use primarily FG because its a lot easier to get up and running for AAF than CBBE with similar functionality. For CBBE to do what FG does natively, its like getting 5-6 extra mods to slap onto CBBE which can make it a nightmare at times. You can still use CBBE, there's nothing wrong in that regard of using it, just most people at least for hassle-freeness will point you at FG for AAF

Very simple loadout with positive looks,

For me, Fusion Girl just works.

P.S. from these forums can't find link but Physics load order is:

  1. Bodyslide
  2. Zex-V6
  3. FusionGirl-0223
  4. Looksmenu v1-6-20
  5. Zex-ZBG-1.3
  6. OCBPC-0.3-Zex4
  7. MTM OCBP-OCBPC Physics and Collusion Preset - there are many, look for ones that include FG / Fusion Girl. I am currently using

MTM 3BBB CBP OCBP OCBPC Physics Preset - CBBE - Fusion Girl - Wonder Body

i have tried both and in the end i use Cbbe because it has full compatibility with all oufit mods and i'm too lazy to convert my 180G data folder.

FG gives animated genitals and better knees (without additional mod) but no dismemberment.

And yeah, what's Fallout without dismembering with a blunt bat or tire iron! XD

Hej wszystkim,

All the best clothes get Fusion Girl compatibility patches [sooner or later].  See IceStorms, Vtaw Wardrobe, Doneb14n, etc.  then search for “Fusion” to get the compatibility patch.

all the most popular do, but not all the mods. When i tried to convert to FG it took me 5mn to find the first outfit without patch in my mod list https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21114

By the way outfits are just part of the conversion you also need a good skin texture (i love FSM), a good OCBP preset (took me long to tweak mine) and many old but good quests are made with cbbe.

What is sad is that FO4 modding community is smaller than the Skyrim one and it has split into several bodies (CBBE, TWB, CBBE 3BBB, Atomic, Fusion Girl).

All those mods are good but together they could have been as good as Skyrim 3BA

‘Totes agree about the split bodies; I mean, unless there was something broken about each of them I don’t understand the split either.

That is the best Piper outfit I’ve seen so far.  I hope for your sake and others that someone eventually makes a Fusion Girl patch for it.

So a couple of FG observations here:

1 - dismemberment is handled through the reduced polygon count here : https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/49923

2 -  most skins which are actually wraps to the skeletons work with FG ( FSM Extreme is still a go to although X-Sensuous has really hit the stride with easy 2k faces / 4k bodies )

3 - this combination of mods actually handles the varied bodies of the Zex - ZBG seamlessly https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41781 & https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/88724?tab=files

4- this page is a running log of FG outfit conversions

5 - in researching and asking questions from MAs I find a lot of quest mods will play with whatever body you are using

Hopefully these observations will help clear up some of outdated data sets about this topic
