DarkTaren Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 5 minutes ago, hazerddex said: better idea STOP ASKING FOR ID ANYTHING. it's not rocket science to understand why so many are pissed with such a ridiculous request. if you don't want to be suspicious DON'T ASK FOR FOR ID ANYTHING. meta data around DOB can be used to track and locate where the ID was made in some countries. You've also demonstrated lack of understanding of your own bot. Which only makes it worse. There is a reason that even site like Steam or DLsite don't even demand your federal ID for age verification. what your doing is grey zone at best and illegal at worse. Don't cross that line. Pornhub asks for your id

I remember a few states passed a law requiring 18+ sites to ask for ID, and lots of them just blocked IP's by location, some popped up a thing saying "By the way proxies exist" at the same time. That's why these "Think of the children!" arguments fail so hard - if the people in power actually cared, they'd increase funding for teachers, stop harassing school districts with weird book bans, fund programs to help struggling new families, etc. The simple fact is if the kid has access to internet you can't and won't be able to firewall / DOB blocker them out of getting elicit content. That comes from doing the right thing and actually parenting your child and NOT giving them un-monitored unrestricted access to the internet. The ID filter on the discord is still dumb for many reasons **A child could borrow their parents id without permission and take a picture** It shifts the liability from discord to the verifyer / channel It creates a log of <potentially personally identifiable information> -> <anonymous ID's> which is simply bad infosec even if you trusted every link in the chain between your ID pic -> the discord server, a compromised machine at any point or a social engineering attack can and will inevitably make the information public Having a closed-door policy and gated community makes it intrinsically more venerable to plagiarism. See Hbomerguy's 4.5 hour youtube plagiarism video essay - most people were caught only after someone who had seen the original source material spoke up. Less people who see the content in the palhub discord, the less chance plagiarism can be caught early therefor incentivizing the success or plagiarism. This applies for the discord both being a victim (material from palhub posted elseware without credit never caught because noone saw it at it's source due to access restrictions) or as a villain (intentionally taking content from less known source and claiming as own) due to limited accessibility of potential victims of that plagiarism. It's not just bad, it's the dumb kind of bad. Edited February 3, 2024 by zileteh 5

Surokk Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 The solution is simple: If you don't want to give your ID, don't. Nobody is forcing you to join the Discord. If you have a problem with their system, just don't fucking join instead of whining about it. 1

For stuff you don't plan on uploading to a website whos forums you are currently using. then complain when you get ripped a new one for it. if you aren't even going to have it on this website why are you even posting it here? 12

Actually literally this. "Hey guys, I see you have a nice forum with dedicated file hosting section, that automatically links back to a discussion thread to discuss / ask questions about each uploaded file. I'm not going to use any of that. I'm actually not contributing to this community at all, I just wanted to let you know you can come join my other thing that requires you to jump through a bunch of hoops before getting access to any of the actual content which may or may not exist" Calling it out as dumb is fair because it is dumb. 17
