It's not quite so simple as that. I assume that what you translate is technical or legal or something of that nature and in that sense, yes, "accuracy" is just conveying the literal meaning. Although actually, when translating a legal document, you probably do need to account for the legalese of the target language, so "literal" meaning would be insufficient. But especially when translating a work of art, whether it's a novel, a poem, or a video game, there's meaning beyond what's literally on the page, and it's important to convey that as well. It's why translators are often talented and skilled writers, themselves. Most of the complaints in this thread are about translators inserting their politics into their translations and dear lord do I not want to have an argument about that here on this forum, but in a broader sense of translating a work of art in one language into a work of art in another language, there's more to it than just transcribing the words into the second language to preserve their literal meaning. I recall this being a major topic of conversation when I was in college reading English translations of famous literary works from other countries, like Faust or The Brothers Karamazov. There were critiques of the quality of various translations, and the critiques were always more about whether they preserved the poetry and the artistic value of the original rather than if they preserved the literal meaning. 1

Personally, i dont like anyone who looks too much like a child no matter their age, mostly the ones that seem to have a child/baby look to them, Age in anything animated (including games) doesn't make sense as alot i watch and play has characters that look mature, while at times they act like a five years old, though mind you i know someone in their 30s and they act like a child half the time lol with all that said, if the character looks mature, at alot of the times act mature, to my eyes, they are technically speaking an adult as there is no age for pixels, though some can look way too young... some people may not agree but i dont care XD as for the Reloaded version, its in the twitter link under the comments, there is also a link someone shared here though its not turned blue indicating that it is a link for some reason. There were critiques of the quality of various translations, and the critiques were always more about whether they preserved the poetry and the artistic value of the original rather than if they preserved the literal meaning. I understand what you mean, and you have explained the situation well about some readjustment of meaning. However, one should not twist the original meaning too much to adapt it to another culture, otherwise it becomes localization. Through literal translations, it is also possible to learn the customs and traditions of that language, of that people, and better understand a deeper meaning. So to translate a poem in the localization method, would be to lose all that magic, that beauty that is functional only for that culture. However, there are cases where it is really complicated to translate in the literary way, such as jokes, but in that case I would never change the joke to something local to the target language. Translating literally is perfectly possible, but it also asks for commitment and willingness on the part of the readers to learn and research another culture. The kind of localization they do in video games today goes far beyond the bounds of crap, they are localizations completely out of place, making the reading experience as something that was created natively in America, totally killing what was Japanese. That's why I was saying that localizations are political, they are also meant to keep other peoples' customs and traditions from being known. I understand the fact that this topic is full of debate, in fact I've been envisioning a future where translations become open source, and anyone can retranslate video games or any other media the way they want. 4

I'd guess it has a hand of the rating board on it, rather than the dev actively doing that, which is why it's inconsistent. I don't remember which dev, but from one of the interview he complained about the first thing the rating board ask is "flip the character model so they can see what's underneath". Those people don't play games so it's understandable why they missed the NPC.

Masahiro Sakurai conveyed his frustration about them making the development took even more time. He also said that was the reason Mai is not present in Smash Ultimate, albeit jokingly. I'm sure other people will have different issues but here's a bit more clarification from someone new to the tool. Step 1: Add the application, which is the Granblue Relink exe. It's over on the left side of Reloaded UI, the plus button. You want the exe that's in the common folder on steam for Relink (If you have it on steam) Step 2: Add Granblue Relink mod manager files to the Reloaded mod folder. If you notice the folder for the mod manager starts in is named gbfrelink.utility.manager1.0.1, you want to copy that folder into the mods folder. Step 3: In Reloaded go to Relink on the left, right click the mod manager, edit mod. Hit next, I set Reloaded 2 Shared Library as dependency to it, hit next on update support, then on the last one I plus marked the mod manager and library. Save. Step 4: Drop mod into the mod folder. Just like the mod manager, it needs to be inside of it's own file usually starting with gbfrelink in the name. Step 5: With it now showing up in the configure mods section on Reloaded, right click it, hit next on Common Details and then set the Mod Manager as a dependency for it. Don't set itself as it's own dependency, I think that was giving me errors. On Finishing Up, make sure Relink is plus marked and save. It should be ready to work, at least with Zai's mod (Have not tried this with the nexus mod yet but it should be identical). Reloaded may throw up some cautions about steam and how to work around it, it's all worthless information, works fine without any further actions. Don't even need to run as administrator. Gave in and tried this. Mod isn't showing up(it's the topless character picture one in thread). Figuring this shit out without step by step pictures is not fun.
Tehman4 Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 (edited) I hate Reloaded II, honestly. Any other time I've had to use it for a game, it's been a hassle to work with, and this game is no exception. For some reason whenever I try to run the game through Reloaded II, it irreparably breaks my game install, making it so I can't even launch the game anymore, even outside of Reloaded II itself. So for anyone like me, who either can't use Reloaded II, or just doesn't want to, I think I found a way to do the reverse of what happened with utamaruunk's mod, where we can take a mod created for Reloaded II, and install it manually instead. I'll put the instructions into this spoiler, just to save some space. Spoiler 1. Make a backup of the "data" folder, and the file "data.i" in your Granblue Fantasy Relink game folder. You'll use these to restore the game files, if something goes wrong, or you want to uninstall your mods. 2. Take whatever mod you want to install, and navigate to the "GBFR" folder included inside. Then, take the "data" folder, and merge it with the data folder located in your Granblue Fantasy Relink game folder. 3. Download "GBFRDataTools.exe.zip" from "https://github.com/Nenkai/GBFRDataTools/releases" and extract the contents of the zip into it's own folder. -If you don't already have NET 8.0 Runtime, you need it for this to work, too. 4. In the folder with "GBFRDataTools.exe" create a Patch.bat file. You can just make a .txt file and rename it to be a .bat, as long as you have "File name extensions" turned on. Then, open the Patch.bat file with a notepad program, and put the following into it: start GBFRDataTools.exe add-external-files -i "%YOURGAMESFOLDER%\Granblue Fantasy Relink\data.i" You have to replace "%YOURGAMESFOLDER%" with the location on your computer where the game is installed. 5. Finally, run the "Patch.bat" that you just made, and it should install all the mods you put into the data folder, during step 2. When you want to add more mods, simply repeat steps 2 and 5. If you want to uninstall the mods, overwrite the data folder and data.i file with the ones you made backups of during step 1. I don't know if this will work for every mod, but it's worked for the few mods that I've tested so far. Edited February 19, 2024 by Tehman4 4
