gregdaweson7 Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 (edited) Hello all, I've taken a long break from modding my game (~3 years) as I was quite happy with my setup on the Legendary Edition, but my SSD recently decided to shit itself so now I get to start from reinstalling MO2. :,( Anyway, until recently I was still playing on LE Skyrim, mainly for the greater number of mods, but am thinking of trying one of the newer versions of skyrim. My primary focus is mod availability/compatibility due to some less common tastes, not graphics, so SE seems to be a better choice for things, but the recent update apparently shat all over that. : / So should I get SE on GOG or Steam and roll it back, get AE, or just say fuck it and stay on LE? Thanks for your help Edited December 18, 2023 by gregdaweson7
DarkBlade13 Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 You should try to get skyrim SE 1.5.97.

DarkBlade13 Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 (edited) Sorry no idea about that part. Honestly haven't been updating for over a year now. I keep rolling everything back so I don't really know how to get back to this vesion from the recent downloads. Edited December 19, 2023 by DarkBlade13

Just Don't Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 (edited) GOG has a single version (1.6.659) and you can't rollback. It's an option, most mods updated for 1.6+ work fine with the GOG version. Only old mods that haven't been updated since 1.5.97 would be out of your reach. As for Steam, there are some 1.5.97 mods that aren't available for 1.6+ and some 1.6+ mods that aren't available for 1.5.97. Since you'd be starting from a clean slate I'd recommend you to downgrade to 1.6.640 really. 1.5.97 was +2 years ago and there are mods being released now that don't support 1.5. The only reason you'd have to be on 1.5 is if you already use and can't play without 1.5 mods. 1.6.640 is the version before this latest patch (1.6.1130, which still isn't fully supported). So it's as current yet stable as you can get. But regardless of the version you want you should always prevent automatic updates and use a decent mod manager so reinstalling the game isn't a recurrent thing. That and reading the info available for the mods you feel like using is enough to mod the game in whatever version you chose. Just don't fall for the SE/AE distinctions. It's all in the version of the game executable and the matching SKSE version. Edited December 19, 2023 by Just Don't
katrina.balanchuk Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 I am also looking at this threads content. So do any LL labs work on the latest update? Or are expected to be? I may buy skyrim all new soon and if i start with the latest it might be ok? Or is there another version that is more desirable (current GOG or current steam then roll back, not sure how to rollback but i am sure there are tutorials around) Moslty hoping I will be able to add and play mods from the LL community. thanks!
FauxFurry Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 GOG only updates when one chooses to update it, for one thing. There is no reason to use Galaxy unless one wishes to update a game or to earn achievements. For another, it has yet to ever receive the Creator's Club update. Most mods which were compatible with the GOG version before the Steam update still work with it right now. It is conceivable that some might be incompatible but I have yet to verify that theory.
