Came back after a long break and would like to say...

Bethesda are greedy assh***s. That's it. Everything is broken, and I cannot be asked to try and fix the mods I have. I've been away so long, that I had no idea what Bethesda was doing. My gosh, they are intentionally destroying the Mod community. Short sighted and stupid move. What makes their game so playable is the community.

RIP Skyrim SE (Shit Edition)

Old Skyrim with all it's memory issues doesn't look so bad now.

I've heard the Skyrim Special Edition over at GoG.com has zero DRM and creation club, you just gotta decide if it's worth buying Skyrim again.

Does that mean when it is updated it does not break SKSE?

I cannot believe I just actually considered it and looked at the price. It's only £14 (67%), Tempting but no thanks. I really do not want to give Bethesda any more than I already have.

Not only does it only update if one chooses to both log into GOG Galaxy and press the download update button, it has not even updated just yet so mods will all likely be up to date when the version change finally occurs.

SSE- Modders have busted their asses to make this version run smooth as fucking cream imo and I won't play the older or the newer iteration at all anymore. Yes... you have to do some reading and look for the specific versions of mods you need now, but it is very fucking doable.

Beth sucks anymore. That much I can totally agree about. But constant updates are unfortunately part of the new landscape whatever you're playing now.

I agree. Not only Modders but also Bethesda. The game runs like never before. Really nice. But it even looks nicer than I remember.

Some mods are gone forever. They haven't been updated in years.

So same issue. So basically, if I want to play latest version of a mod that requires latest version, I have to wait for other mods that are not updated to update. Some mods that have been around for years are dead now. They will never update.

Bethseda are complete jerks. They knew what it would do to a whole host of mods but they still went that route.

Just maybe that was the Plan in the first place...Look what they done to my song ma, look what they done to my song*.

*Melanie sang that song.

Control is the way I see it, no more hard copies on disk was just the beginning.

I'm just wondering what kind of rock you slept or lived under?

The switch from Skyrim-SE to the AE version took place more than 12 months ago - more than a year.

Currently we "only" have one more update - from an "older" AE version to a "newer" one... and there are now plenty of SKSE versions... the "Skyrim AE" from STEAM is a little different by GOG.

So if you have just received a forced update from Steam... not only have you not been "online" there for more than a year - but you have also taken a complete break here in the forum for that long.

---

You can return to Skyrim SE at any time... at least to the last SE version before the change.

This means that your "old" mods for SE are usable again... as long as you still have the packed archives of these mods

(Anyone who doesn't store theirs is an absolute ***** for me)

---

On the other hand, users here at the company have been providing comprehensive help in dealing with the transition from SE to AE for more than a year!

No forced update, a complete install. I uninstalled it and just left the mods in MO on external drive. Done that plenty of times over the years (with original Skyrim and Oblivion.

Games now days take too much HD disk space so I rotate. I mean ARK took several hundred gigabytes.

I shouldn't have removed it, but I never really had any issues before. It was always easy to get it up and running again. Oblivion, that's a different matter. I completely messed up the backup and broke everything.

Thanks for the link.

I don't understand what happened. Did Bethesda force SE players to update to AE? Used to be you could downgrade back to SE and most mods support both AE and SE. Did something change? I haven't played in a while either.

I chose to only update Skyrim when launching it in Steam's options.  But I actually launch the game with SKSE through Mod Organizer.  That prevents the game from updating, as long as I don't touch it in Steam.  I'm still on 1.6.640 and plan to stay there indefinitely.

EDIT: There's even a mod currently available that allows backwards compatibility of mods designed for the latest update to Skyrim.  That's all the more reason for me to not update.

I bought Microsoft Flight Sim at Thanksgiving time, one has to be signed into MS, Xbox & Steam to access the Marketplace to download add-ons.

I screwed up, forgot to go offline with Steam, launched my game from my SKSE desktop launcher and bam, instant update. Even though I downgraded to 1.5.97 or SE, I have had more trouble with the game than ever before, weird stuff.  I had begun to suspect Bethesda for the things that had changed but until I found this article I would be speculating, I guess I still am.

My wish is Steam offer the 1.5.97 game & put a Never update this game button on their website. AE broke so much for what a player home, fishing, a few weapons all crap in my book.

Verified Creators Program Launched for Skyrim — December 11, 2023

Skyrim Special Edition received a surprise patch last Tuesday, December 5, 2023. In addition to a host of bug fixes, the main addition has been a reorganization of the Creation Club and Mods menus into a single, unified "Creations" menu. Additionally, Creation Club has been retired in favor of a new Verified Creators program, whereby third party mod authors can apply to become verified and sell their mods in-game via this new menu. Known as Verified Creations, these new offerings bear a strong resemblance to the short-lived Paid Mods program that was launched on Steam in April 2015 for Skyrim's original release. The Verified program has launched with seven initial offerings, although only two of these are available for PlayStation players due to existing modding limitations on that platform. Note that Verified Creations disable achievement progress when enabled and are not included with the Anniversary Edition upgrade.

For the full list of changes included in the patch, see the changelog for Special Edition Patch 1.6.1130.
