Where do I even start to mod skyrim?

There are probably hundreds of posts asking the same question and I could look for them but I thought id just make a post. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Start by getting Mod Organizer 2 and SKSE installed

Good advice although any mod manager will do (I do not mean to derail this Thread into a fight over mod managers only to point out that there is more than one). Make sure when you do start adding mods that they are for your correct version of the game. If you are using Skyrim SE, for instance, you want the SE version of SKSE.

I'm assuming you recently purchased this game... so you most likely have the "AE" version

Well - in addition to the mods suitable for this version, you should also ask your questions in the corresponding support thread

I googled "Skyrim AE modding guide" and found this: https://www.sinitargaming.com/skyrim_se.html

 

Then there is also the famous STEP guide, which guides you through the process of installing basic mods that enchances the game experience. Many of the mods are optional though.

This really is going to take some time. I did start and fumbled around alot but cant get SOS to work so i might just start over with what Miauzi said
