Long Loading & Long Saving

So I'm having an issue recently, and not sure what has caused it (don't know why I open with that. Of course I have an issue, or else I wouldn't be posting this here. *bonks head*).

 

My loading times have increased by almost a minute, and the same is happening with my saving. I'm assuming they are related, cause my game is auto saving during loading, which is causing my loading to take longer now. My save file is now 40MB.

 

This started happening around the time I killed Alduin and started the Dawnguard storyline. Never ever had these issues before, and I haven't really added anything script heavy or major to my game since then either. Just a few armor mods is all, and I think I updated SexLab with the new FNIS (yes I updated properly as per the instructions, cause I am having no issues in game at all with SexLab).

 

Here is my load order, and hopefully someone can assist me in finding out what is causing this big delay in saving my game and why my save file is so large.

i had something similar once and by mistake figured out it was a merged plugin. Still don't know what exactly as causing it, but disabling it solved the problem.
Can't see any merged plugins in your loadorder, but it's fucking to long to read. So if you have any merged mods, it may be worth a try, disabling those.

if you don't have any merged mods, try "ClearInvalidRegistrations" in the console, as this may shrink the savegame a bit and maybe reduces the load time by this.

Yeah I have no merged plugins, so no issues there. I even tried the Save Cleaner, and that didn't do anything at all. My save is still 41MB (yeah it was 41, not 40, my mistake) and takes awhile to save.

 

I was reading up on the ClearInvalidRestrations with SKSE, and it seems like that is going to take a couple days to do. One of those, leave overnight things. Guess I can give that a try tonight when I head to bed, but really am not looking forward to it lol. Just afraid I'm going to break something in the process of trying to do that.

 

I just don't want to start over yet again. I finally got 100% vanilla and 100% dawnguard done. Was getting ready to start Dragonborn before this started happening. Don't want to deal with all that all over again. >.<

IMHO, it's Dawnguard plain and simple, that mod and I call it a mod ,a poor one at that, has more problems than anything else I have ever seen produced by a so called professional group, it is full of errors. Your load order looks ok for the most part. I usually do things in this order and I find it has less problems and is easier to see what's going on, but I am sure others will have better ideas. I usually place any mods that alter race, or appearance at the top, after the main game files, then races themselves next, cloths, armor, accessories after that, environment changes next, other assorted mods, and then any *esp that is a plugin for character or NPC appearance and such modifications last. I hope that helps you some, but I am sure it was not the answer you were hoping for. My experiences have been a near disaster when involving Dawnguard, It crashed the hell out of my system the last time I played Skyrim so many times I lost my entire OS and over 100 downloaded Steam games, to which I am still trying to re-acquire them all, hence Dawnguard will not be included in my load order, until it is appropriately patched, officially, I don't believe in the ability of the Unofficial patches, I have had problems with them too an don't use them, I am sure the work on them is good, but those folks don't have the necessary "tools" to actually improve the cohesion and structure after completed. It is a special tool that "Optimizes" the structure.

Happened to me. Turned out to be Sexlab Defeat for me. Removed it and my save size went back to 10kbs, then posted on the tread. Could a number of things for you but its probably easily noticed if you look at your papyrus log.

@carywinton, I had the thought it might be Dawnguard, but I have never had any issues like this before with Dawnguard. This is like my 5th playthrough of it, and it has never causes me issues like this before.

 

@devilsnake1990, Like I said earlier, I already used Save Cleaner and it didn't help. My save was still the same size and saving took a minute to do still.

 

@cornbreadtm, I never thought about it being SexLab Defeat. It could possibly be that since I did update to the new versions just before this started happening. And it has been a bit glitchy (like having the trapdoor menu pop up randomly on me).

 

As for my papyrus log, oh goodness it is a mess. And not because of mods surprisingly. It is full of vanilla scripts that flood it. Like the MGRitual04, RandomDustDropFX, Critters, etc. I get no spam from mods or anything. Just vanilla scripts that always spam the papyrus log. Pretty bad when the vanilla game is spamming script errors and mods aren't.

 

But I tried that ClearInvalidRegistrations for SKSE, and I think I screwed something up. Cause I woke up to a crashed game. So I threw a hissy fit like any grown adult would do, and now am reinstalling the game. Kept my save though, so I'll see what I can do to salvage this. Otherwise I'll just be starting a new game again.

40 mb is way too big. normal save game size should be around 5 to 10 mb. any higher and you have something bloating it.

Reinstalling the game is simply a waste of time. Just find the mod that's causing the bloat and remove it. Your save will go back down in size. Make sure you stop the scripts with their MCM uninstall options or BAT or whatever they use to properly uninstall; mods main pages will tell you how to stop their scripts.

 

And those vanilla script bugs have been fixed for a while... by Steve40.

I didn't do autosaves cause the ClearInvalidRegistrations guide said to turn it off cause it could mess up the process.

 

Tried the dustdrop fix, and it didn't seem to do anything. Still getting that in my log, along with a ton of MGRitual spam. I read how to fix that, but it only tells you how to fix it if you have the quest, not if you already finished it. And I don't want to give myself the quest again just to stop it, cause then it will bother me sitting in my quest log.

 

The reinstall wasn't too bad though. Cleaned up a bunch of old stuff that I wasn't using anymore, along with the idea of removing SexLab Defeat. Removed SexLab in general, and my save went down to 16MB now. So I'm going to take a guess it was Defeat or something to do with that version of SexLab. Game is saving much faster now and loading much much quicker now. And yes I safely uninstalled them via MCM first. Still seems rather large, but not having any issues anymore.

Before: First and foremost, never use auto-saves. Turn them completely off in the .ini

Secondly, don't know why someone is blaming Dawngurd - there are no bloating issues with Dawnguard.

Your save is(was) bloated. You are using (used?) ALPHA/BETA *SEX* Mods in a serious playthorugh. You already have made two bad decicions so far.

After: But it looks like most of your issues was cleared up. Glad you don't use auto-saves anymore. Don't use sex mods in a serious playthrough - especially ones that are alpha/beta.

Also, your game might be "better now," but I'd open papyrus logging and see how much spam you're getting. If you're still getting spammed to hell, and are getting more than the 'random' CTD (as in a few CTDs per play session) I would drop that playthrough. I've clocked in over 800 hours and my main character will be level 1 again soon : ) It's a bethsoft game - we find errors, fix the issue and start again until we find more... gotta find that perfect game!

 

EDIT: the perfect game, as in 1 random-CTD per hour or none at all, and a papyrus log that isn't over 10kb

An incremental save is completely different than an auto save and you should be using them when using ClearInvalidRegistrations. I linked you to the site so you could get more information about it.

 

Considering how long you've played on that save, 16kbs is just about right, so I'm glad I could help.

I don't get a lot of CTDs, barely any actually. Wasn't until recently with this save issue that I started getting CTDs. My game has always been pretty much 90% stable. Even with SexLab running in normal playthroughs. Wasn't until I updated to the latest version that I started having issues. And I've had papyrus logging enabled always. Got all the vanilla stuff fixed with the help of cornbreadtm, only thing that still spams (and I mean spam not the usual log stuff) is that MGRitual script. And there doesn't seem to be any fix for that (besides giving myself the quest again which I don't want to do). The dust script finally cleared up so that's a plus.

I'll definitely start using that from now on since it is okay to use when doing the ClearInvalidRegistrations command. I was just confused on how to use the command in the first place, and never done it before so I probably messed something up on my end. And my save is 16MB, not KBs lol. Like I said, still seems rather large, but my game is running smooth and having no issues anymore. I'll do some more work on it later tonight with that incremental save thing and see if I can't shrink it down some more.
