Z0mBieP00Nani Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 (edited) I just swapped out my 3070 (because of frequent black screens and crashes related to hitting the limit of my GPU memory of 8 gigs) to a 4080 and started getting these strange visual glitches. Any ideas as to what is causing them? I also have a mod installed that allows me access to DLSS and a number of other features (Link to mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/2751). sen4mi Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Have you tried [Guide] How to force recompile shaders : Starfield (reddit.com)?

No, I didn't know about this. I haven't seen the glitch again, but I guess I could try this anyway, just to be on the safe side. I noticed that it stopped after turning off the frame generation feature added by the DLSS mod I'm using and restarting the game.
sen4mi Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 The game does need to sometimes update shaders on its own, and maybe the changes you made nudged it to do so. (Or maybe the problem wasn't shaders?)
Bluegunk Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 (edited) I'm on a humble 2080ti and I used the DLSS mod from Nexus. I cannot not use the Frame Gen. I endured all sorts of screen glitches and crashes. Glitches like the screen broken into parts, neon lights, grey screen with sound only, weird blocks growing out of people's heads, and black flickering on player movements. CTDs were frequent, too. Frustrated, I finally pulled all the DLSS mod parts. Since then, uninterrupted, smooth play with reasonable FPS. I suggest you try without DLSS and see if the same happens for you! When I was still using my 3070 I was having two main issues, textures were not loading in all the way, I was getting a combination of nice HD textures and PS1 quality graphics, and I would get these black screens, usually after going into the menus, the UI elements were showing up though. I did notice that I could force the black screens to go away by popping back into the menu and then saving the game, I guess that freed up just enough memory to let the picture come back, or something. After trying what was suggested here, I actually have noticed much smoother performance from the 4080 card, however, where before I was getting stuttering and screen tearing when spinning around really quickly, now I have not noticed any more visual glitches and I have buttery smooth movement. I did notice a huge improvement in textures loading in (and frames, if I remember correctly) when using this mod, however https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/5080 (when I was still using the 3070), also I know that in past Bethesda games particles can bog down your graphics card pretty good, and I suspect that this mod may have helped a bit with performance, or if it didn't it at least makes the game look nicer, in my opinion, since it allows you to see things better and makes the color in the game seem less "washed out" https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1607. This game is just poorly optimized, to be honest, at least as far as I can tell. You can't even set the screen to a smaller resolution and then have it run in full screen mode, like you could with past Bethesda games, which to me is just stupid because that was another way to get a performance gain with little difference in visual performance.
