Hey guys. I require some assistance in changing the default animations of vanilla races while keeping the animations of my current custom race without overwriting them. Is this even possible? I'm currently using FNIS and a custom race to keep animations to myself, but I'm starting to want to change vanilla animations as well.

The reason being is that I want to acquire a follower, but unfortunately they all move like awkward apes! Is there a way to change the race of my follower?

If all else fails, I suppose it would be appreciated if someone could post a link to a mod of a follower who has a custom race.

Thanks in advance!

There are a multitude of ways to do this.

I assume when you say you're " using FNIS to keep animations to myself " you mean you're using PCEA ( player character exclusive animations ), that requires FNIS to work. You can go into data\meshes\actors\characters\animations\PCEA\female and replace ANY of the default female animations in there. Note that this will make ALL females in game use these animations, except for you. I myself have done this, and have my own character use 1 set of walks \ idles etc \ while still replacing the default females animations with something a bit nicer.

You can try turning your follower into your custom race. This will cause them to use the same animations you do, and they will NOT use the ones in the PCEA folder. To do this, go into 1st person and look right at your follower. Open the console and target them with the mouse. Now type SetRace CUSTOMRACE, where CUSTOMRACE is the name of the race as it appears in the creation kit. Most race creators use a very similar naming layout as vanilla, such as the Lunari being setrace LunariRace, the Ningheim being SetRace NingheimRace, etc.

If you do this, please note it will probably mess with some aspects of the Follower, such as face and body textures not matching. You can fix this by having SKSE, having them targeted as you did before, and typing setnpcweight 100 in the console. This fix usually has to be applied every time you restart the game however. Also note that when you talk to them their mouths my stop moving on occasion if you use the console to change their race.

Hope this helps.
