What is Community Hive?

So I decided to follow a thread in the Starfield section today, and noticed something new on the popup Follow window.  In the bottom left corner, there was a green button labeled "Follow on Community Hive."

 

Have I just been completely oblivious and not noticed something that's been there for a long time, or is that some new feature that's being rolled out?  I had no issue just following it the same way I've been doing before, but wondering if this is something I might want to switch to.

It seems to be a new thing. Not sure what the differences / advantages are, as it also seems to be a email notification. Maybe other sites also use it so the notices can be collated?

Pretty much what xm72 said, that's how I understand it at least. I suppose it allows you to follow content from multiple sites, or "communities", that support this feature and displays the updates in a single feed kinda. So instead of having to visit every site you are interested in to check on updates from your followed content, you just check your Community Hive page. More here:
