I played for a few hours and was happy. Now Oblivion crashes when I try to run it through the launcher, the Oblivion.exe, and the OBSE.exe. If I run the game through MO, the game starts, but it gives me an error telling me that I didn't read the instructions, and that the game requires OBSE for Lovers to run. I didn't do anything today that I didn't do yesterday, and I played for a few hours yesterday. How the hell can I run Obl fine one day, and then do the same exact thing the next day, only to watch the game either not start, or give me bullshit errors when it does run??? TES4Edit has all good news. This doesn't make any sense at all. This really isn't worth this much time. Works today, but not tomorrow??? I changed nothing! I loaded it the same way! Does it matter what day of the week it is? Is it sleeping, and doesn't want me to wake it right now? Does it have better things to do?? Do I have a curse? Know any good witch doctors that can lift this curse, so I can play the game, just like I did yesterday? OBSE is installed. Pluggy is installed. All mods are active in MO. There's no excuse for this shit! I can honestly say I'm furious about this!! As far as I'm concerned, this "problem" doesn't exist! Everything is the same as when it worked yesterday. It's a flat-out lie!!! This is really maddening, but it gets worse. There's nothing I can do about it! I've been going over every step imaginable, but I can't rename, move, delete, or even SDelete (www.sysinternals.com) the Oblivion older. I tried to rename my SteamApps folder to SteamApps_old, but I kept getting the error that says it can't be renamed because it's running in a separate program. Observe: Verifying integrity in Steam's game 'Properties' did nothing, reinstalling OBSE did nothing, new games had this issue now, and the list just goes on. I've been troubleshooting since I got off work at 5am. It's 12:30pm. That's 7.5 hours I tried to get this game to work, which brings the total time I've spent "preparing" Obl to 26 hours. I already went insane trying to fix this so no one can save my sanity, but if someone has any clue why OBSE refuses to work all of a sudden, I may at least not break anything, or put holes in my wall with my FUC*ING HEAD!! I'd play the damn game mod free, if the people weren't a 0 out of 10 on "the scale". This game needs OBSE pretty bad, so help me out, before I have myself commited. AAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Thank you, and have a nice day.
AwfulArchdemon Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 Are you using the Nexus Mod Manager? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! No. I'm using Mod Organizer.
gregathit Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I am not familiar with Mod organizer. However you can NOT run the OBSE_loader.exe with Steam. That will crash out every time. You MUST follow the OBSE install instructons (it is in the readme for the OBSE archive) and launch the game with "play" on the steam page. Trying to use a mod organizer to launch the game probably isn't going to work, as most will try to launch the Obse_loader.exe which is NOT compatible with the Steam version of Oblivion. Organize your mods with your chosen mod organizer (enabling what you want enabled) and then try just using the play button on the Oblivion steam page and see what happens.
beta000 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Fellow Mod organizer User here. Which version of MO are you using, can I see the bsa tab, can I see the mod tab and make sure the appID in the workaround is 22330 and make sure that the load mechanism is set to script extender under the workarounds tab in the options menu.

Like I said, I tried everything. I tried running the game every way the game can possibly be run, but nothing. MO is always the best route. I used it to run Oblivion.exe, Oblivion Launcher.exe, OBMM, Wryebash, and OBSE, all with MO. I also tried to run each of these by themselves. The game only turns on when I use MO to run the Oblivion.exe, but OBSE opens, and stays open (cmd screen). It doesn't close out the cmd screen and run. It never runs unless I activate that specifically, but then the game starts, and crashes right away.
gregathit Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Steam versions require you to run Oblivion.exe (which is what should happen when you use the "play" button in steam). Make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you followed the instructions for installing OBSE and enabling it with steam: IF YOU ARE USING THE STEAM VERSION OF OBLIVION: 1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_steam_loader.dll to your Oblivion directory. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion". 2. Ensure you have enabled the Steam community in-game, or OBSE will fail to load. Go to Steam > Settings > In-Game and check the box marked "Enable Steam Community In-Game". 3. Launch Oblivion via Steam or by running Oblivion.exe. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obse_steam_loader.dll.

Use it, love it, fuc*ing marry it! Apparently, all I had to do was make those changes Beta000 gave me to my workarounds. Thank GOD!! I can feel some of my sanity returning...slowly. Problem solved. Thank you gregathit! Thank you Beta000!
