Myst42 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 How do you do that? I mean, what's the best way or the optimal procedure to do so? This is a question about texture work, photoshop and design Head compatibility with textures is determined by the "UV Layout" At the moment I'm trying to work with three -Vanilla-Ren Head Layout, used by all vanilla stuff and many custom races including FF race I think -Head 06 Type, used by moonshadow elves, Bella's races in Nexus and Xenius races too among many others -Digital Girl, Only one race found using this head, "Aos SI race* *This one is the one that started this quest, as it doesnt come with any textures, the author says textures "need to be converted to this head" and provides the UV layout in the file, somehow implying that it's easy and everybody knows how to do it. That's a filthy lie, I don't. Quote from Alecu on Nexus/Digital Girl Mod "I have only used standard race textures converted to the new head" ... ... ... ...HOW???!!?? So I ask to know how does one do this by standard procedure, my knowledge of Photoshop is very limited and I've no idea how to do this in optimal way. I could mess around cutting and deforming cut pieces, but that's a total screw up and I see at least one hour work for texture for more than 100 textures This has been done more than once, in fact a lot of times, there are entire conversions of vanilla textures to use head06 UV layout, including aging maps It can't possibly be that much work if it's done so often So anybody knows this procedure? How would you do it? Anybody care to explain a little or link to tutorial? Please?
Risray Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Well...there is really not much to it tbh...it's basically open the head you want to make the texture to in nifskope, export the UV map, open it with Photoshop/Gimp and start working from there...easy right? Hell no! Converting a whole texture from one head to another is possibly the worst thing you can do, it will take time your time, your patience and probably all the coffee you have...in the end it is just not worth it, it is more rewarding to simply get a base texture for the head you want and then add stuff from other textures until your happy. As for the Digital Girl...that head is a blessing and a curse at the same, the UV is awesome for tattoos, scars you name it, this until you try to mess with the mouth area, which is a total mess! Anyway I have a few textures for that head that could be used as a base, I even have the moonshadow elf default texture for that head (somewhere, just need to "dig" trough the unorganized pile of textures), if you're interested just toss me a PM and I'll upload them asap.
Myst42 Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 In that page it sounds so simple, the way it's said... My intention is not for custom race in any case... It's a project continuation from "Amnes Beautiful Characters" <this, changes every human vanilla race to use head06, except for beast races I'm happy with something I found to replace khajiits and argonians, but orcs... I hate orcs in the vanilla concept So I wanted human head orcs... I know there are other mods to do this, but none of them using head06 AND age maps I already tweaked a head06 texture into being orcish, but age maps are still the old ones I needed to change those, age maps from orcs are different from human I became obsessed as this is the last thing my idea is missing I also wanted to do some experiments to see if Digital girl head looked better than head06, but I also needed textures for it Ugh... I still haven't given up on the desire to convert those age maps... any Idea where to start? As for those resources you mention, Of course I'm interested if you can find and send please! pm sent
fejeena Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Can't help but here another digital head race http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/36785// Shriddan Race My fejeena Avatar Picture is Shriddan Race. Changed lips, removed one Tattoo, add nostrils. I only modifier existing textures, never tried to convert a head textures to fit another head mesh. If you use human heads for your orcs why don't you use the human Age maps ? rename and place in the right Folder. Edit: Risray I am interested in the digital head textures . I love that head.
Myst42 Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 Oh thanks! About using human age maps... I had thought of that idea too, but the optimal result is by converting original orc age maps. They are different, have some features human age maps don't. like some lines in the nose and other stuff making them look "creaturish" It makes orcs look more alien and bad-ass even with human heads (I've seen the effects on Vanilla-Ren type heads). I'm not aiming for just a pretty girl orc, the idea is an orc who can be beautiful, and just with a tiny bit of delicacy, without losing the impression that this is not a green human, it's a creature, something strange. And make males of course still look threatening. I thought there was an optimal way to do the conversions... as these were made for all human, type races in all, color, normal maps and aging textures, and that's a lot
Risray Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Edit: Risray I am interested in the digital head textures . I love that head. http://www.mediafire.com/download/xu3yl300g85ollt/MS_for_DG_head.7z
