azmodan22 Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Ok, I've made a mod. But it is more than 100Mb so I can not upload it to LoversLab server. It's ok, I'll just upload it to megaupload and link the files. However, when you link files from megaupload the name of the file in the mod's download page is megaupload's link. And that causes a lot of confusion and problems. Of course you can just put a link the op, but that, will not count in the mods "Downloads" count. So my question is simple. Is there a way to "name" a linked file so that the users know what to download?
winny257 Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I do not understand why there limitations (100 mb) gives?you can not share your mod and upload it in two parts? german \ deutsch ! ich verstehe das auch nicht , warum es begrenzungen ( 100 mb ) giebt ?kannst du deinen mod nicht in zwei parts teilen und hochladen ?
anubis Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Winrar/7z or using HJsplit can split the main zip into several parts so you still able to upload here as usuall. Much more hassle to do but its your choice.
azmodan22 Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 Yes you can make the file in parts less than 100mb each but I dont think that this would be the correct thing to do. Besides the fact that I will end up having a list of 20 files, the 100 mb limit is there because I think that the server space that loverslab has is not unlimitited. Thus the 100mb limit. If I am to cut my mod to parts to "overcome" the 100 mb limit then there is no point in the existance of that limit in the first place. So, I think the correct thing to do, is if the mod is bigger than 100 mb, you upload it someplace else and link it. Since I cannot rename the linked files then, and megaupload does not have the filename in the link, is the there another page I can upload my files and link them here?
Bootaka Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 If you wanted to use the DL counter, you could add a .txt doc to the downloads with the direct links to your host in side it? Or if you just looking to change the link name, there is UBB linking functions in the little box above the reply window, that looks like 2 links of a chain, or html hyperlinking name?
Ark of Truth Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 If you wanted to use the DL counter, you could add a .txt doc to the downloads with the direct links to your host in side it? Nope, the download system is for mods only. Your not allowed to use it for uploading text files with external links.
Shaydow Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I don't see what the big deal is or how this is causing " confusion " anyway. If anything edit your main post to have a disclaimer that tells downloaders that the file will be named after the link on LL, but on Mega once the new window pops up the file will show the correct name. If people who have wanted to downloaded mine ( mine is WAAAAAAY over 100mb ) saw the download name after clicking the link and decided NOT to download it, you know what? I'm glad. It will make my life easier. If they are to stupid ( yes that's right I went there ) to understand what is going on even BEFORE they download it, lord knows what you will have to deal with AFTER they do download it and have no idea how to install a simple mod. Just my 2 cents, but I don't see it being a problem, and should only end up helping you out.

For my mod I have 10 options. so I have 10 downloads that look like this #!MscmkYAa!ERoHjgYMf35ZmQUDcZ8pixCxOn07nkSrSSgDd0hskgg go figure wich one is wich. So I need to somehow make them a bit more obvious.

You either have to to forgo being able to see the total downloads on LL, OR, and this is a big OR but COULD fix your problem, simply package all 10 as a single download with a file structure in your .ZIP with the individual files structure for each of those 10 options ( yes I understand the download would be over a gig in size, again, it is an option. ). Otherwise my main post would say " for the mod click here " and that would link to LL directly, for " X Variant of mod click here " and that would link right to the Mega site. Sure you would lose out on knowing the DL count for those, but again, your only other option is to make the entire thing 1 download with all the options in that download ( you have probably seen this yourself. 00 - CORE, 01 - X option, 02 - Y option, 03 - Z option folders in the download ). *EDIT* edited for clarity. Good luck.
azmodan22 Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 One file would take me days to upload. besides I want to be adding options constantly. Well you know what they say: The simplest solution is usually the best one. And the solution to this is so darn Stupid that that's propably why I did't try it in the first place. just add "---name" at the end of the link. no spaces. You dont remove the railroad or letters and number but the name is now there and the mega link works. Unbelievable
