How to switch Npc's bodies from CBBE 3BA to BHUNP

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So i am playing on a wabbajack list (Project Skyrim).

My goal is to seamlessly switch out the cbbe 3ba bodies with BHUNP body.

Is this really that hard, because it is said this list was built for the cbbe body and not the other way around and that a whole lot of things depend on the body.

I already managed to do it somewhat succesfully but i came across seam issues, at first managed to fix it but then it came back this time with clipping issues also, the second time the nipple issue was only on the Nordic female NPC's which i will show in the inserted Screenshot, i completely reinstalled the modlist though after trying out other lists so i might not come across the same issue with good preparation.

I tought it was as simple as just switching the body, textures armors and using body slide (I use Obody also), but i was told otherwise.

I dont mind losing some armors if they are not BHUNP compatible.

Could someone give me some advice please, things i should look out for, keep in mind or change? I really dont want to start my own list and i cant seem to find a list that is built like this (good immersion realistic Lore friendly even with sex mods) but with BHUNP, i need good vagina and anal collision otherwise it is a dealbreaker for me and i could only fix it by switching to BHUNP.

I think you just have to go into the textures folders of all the mods and paste in some unp textures. CBBE and UNP texture files use the same naming scheme so its a simple copy and paste job. Its usually 12 files, 4 for body, 4 for hands and 4 for head.

femalehead.dds

femalehead.msn.dds

femalehead_s.dds

Find a unp skin you want to use, copy those 12 files, then find the cbbe mod textures and paste the fles inside.

The body also has some nifs you want to paste into the cbbe file paths.

Change this for which mods precisely? i tought i couldnt use any cbbe related mods.

Should i keep all those armor mods and the slider mods for them? I go here by clicking ' open mods folder' right?

Btw, i want the npcs to have different body presets distributed on them, not all having the same body.

Yeah, you'll have to open the mods folder and explore it with your mod manager.

For example lets say I'm using the "GiHH Grey follower" from nexus. It has a custom body path at

Meshes > [GIHH] > Grey > body

and inside are all the body nifs

If I go to where my base skyrim bodies are located, copy those nine files and then paste them into the GiHH followers body file, that follower would be using my body instead of the one it came with. I can do a similar thing to replace its textures.

I can do this for any follower that has a custom body path inside its file structure. Normally, followers that don't have a custom body path will automatically use whatever you have installed for skyrim, making them work fine for CBBE or UNP based skyrim, so you don't have to worry about that type.

Just go into the follower folders one by one and see if they have  a custom body path, then paste in your UNP shapes.

For giving npcs differtent body shapes, I think  "o body"  handles that  but I'm not very familiar with it. What I usually do is have a preset that looks very different from weight 0 to weight 100, that way an npc will have its shape determined by their weight. I'm also using a mod that changes muscle detail based on weight.

Nice, appreciate the info, when you say you can do a similar thing that replaces its textures your talking about something other than body? That leads me to my next question, what should i do with all the armor mods? for some i have found BHUNP body sliders but others not, is it best to remove those ones without, or should i also look for those nif files? or do i use batch build? And what's the mod called that changed muscle based on weight?

I use "cbbe muscle solution," but someone made an alternative for unp

UNP Muscle Solution at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com)

When turning a UNP follower into a cbbe follower, I also have to swap out those 12 texture files I mentioned in an earlier post, or else I'll have misplaced nipples the same way you did.

There is a way to convert UNP armors into cbbe armors, but I wouldn't do that unless you were dead set on having a follower wear their original custom armor ( and in that case they might as well stay cbbe too.)

You'll probably have to sift through and build only UNP armors since that's what your skyrim runs on. Batch building will create everything active on bodyslides drop down list, so filter the list to display only unp stuff before you batch build and it should be fine.

So just find a vanilla armor replacer that's unp based and use that.  Sometimes mods will have unp versions available too so be sure to look for those

Thank you, only i had the misplaced nipples on an NPC, you know what might have caused that? Maybe i did something wrong with body slide or there were old files somewhere from CBBE 3BA?

NPCs are made to use whatever your base skyrim install uses, unless the npc is a follower with its own texture path, or an npc overhaul with its own texture path.

Bodyslide determines the base shape of the body used, so if your skyrim is set to use UNP textures but you decide to build cbbe shaped bodies as a base, then the skyrim engine will paint unp textures onto a cbbe body and cause nipple misplacement.

If you're using a mod manager, you'll have to look at it and see which body type UNP or CBBE family is winning the conflict since that determines what your skyrim is running on now.

I have a question regarding this, overall logic is clear, I do it the same way.

Now what if I go from UNP to CBBE for example.

The mod I want to change has

8 mesh files

15 texture files

While my CBBE files only have 6 for meshes and 12 for texture. Reason could be that Bodyslide does not build hands but the mod is using hand nif files.

Should I then delete surplus mesh and texture files or should I keep them?

I cant help you with that unfortunately, i have came across another issue though, Bodyslide is not showing BHUNP vanilla armors and clothes in the dropdown menu while i have BHUNP vanilla bodysliders installed.. Its only showing me AE vanilla clothes and armor, does one of you know why perhaps?

For me that can happen when I select a preset X that is not assigned to outfit A. As long as X is selected I can only see the outfits that it is valid for. If I change the preset to one that is assigned to A, A appears again in the drop down.

Where do i find the BHUNP nif files? I went into the explorer of the BHUNP mod but in the Meshes folder it was empty. So far i have found the texture/dds files but im not sure where to find the nif's, also this one follower has its own eye and hair textures, do i need to remove those because they will cause issues or no? sorry if this message looks weird not fully aware on how this works and how i could quote it better.

When you click the build button, Bodyslide will tell you where the file is going.

Another way is to open up Bodyslide and find your base nude BHUNP body. Press the small button at the top of the screen to open up the current project in outfit studio. The button looks like a woman's torso with a blue arrow on it.

Chose File > Save as to see where the body file is being output.

I'm using Mod Organizer 2, so my base female body is being put into the overwrite folder.

Overwrite > meshes > actors > character > character assets

Why aren't you asking at wherever you get wabbajack stuff from?

1. Uninstall the CBBE 3ba mod. This gets you back to the vanilla body.

2. Install the BHUNP mod.

3. Uninstall all your clothing and armour mods as they will be CBBE 3ba.

4. Install BHUNP versions of all your clothing and armour mods (assuming such things exist).

5. Check to see if there are BHUNP versions of any of the CBBE 3ba followers and replace as needed.

Presumably the missing mesh files are the .tri files? These are the files generated by Bodyslide which allow you to change body shape in game.

You could leave them as the game will only use files named in the esp. Or you could delete them. Rule of thumb for problems like this: back up the files you are thinking of changing. Make the changes and if things go tits then use the backups to roll back.

Grey cloud i already did all those steps and i ended up with more issues.. i think ima give up on this i been trying for days now, also the people from the list dont recommend it and dont offer support for it.
