I've tried a clean install with no mods, and then BAM I can open the game from steam with no issues, get past the launcher. I made a copy of my data folder, tried to put everything back in that was there before (I made a copy of my data folder to see if my mods were the issue) and then my game is stuck in background processes, it never opens. I was able to open the game prior from the actually .exe file, now I get the launcher when I open the .exe file for Oblivion. Oblivion is installed outside of program files, outside of my main drive, it's on an external SSD. No issues prior to today - my mods are being saved on the save drive that the game files. Wyre Bash and OBMM are not installed in the steam directory. I was mainly using oblivion to play morroblivion, but honestly at this point if nobody has heard of the issue (I've tried googling for several hours, can't seem to find anyone with this issue) I saw a user that was having the issue with Red dead redemption two, and he disabled his secondary graphics driver, and was able to get the game launcher to open and not be stuck in the background. The game isn't crashing upon opening, it's still running in the background according to task manager and steam. I've tried verifying the integrity of the game files, nothing seems to work. At this point, I'm either going to do a clean install, delete my old data folder + try re-installing all my mods and see if the issue works. I've also tried launching the game from Wyre bash with Oblivion + OBSE. no luck, get the launcher. and my game is stuck in the background still. All lovers mods have been uninstalled (when trying to open the game from the actually .exe for whatever ungodly reason even with all the necessary files in their correct places OBSE wasn't working, so I ditched them. It should also be noted I did re-create my bashed patch and re-ran BOSS. Then kuerteeCleanUp.esp wouldn't be at the end. Or MaleBodyReplacerV5.esp would not be below Knights.esp and the rest i have not check. Have you set the Oblivion folder in your anti-virus program to the ignore list? Can happen that a anti-virus program don't let you start the Game or Construction Set. I did add Oblivion.exe as an exception to my firewall.. will look into the anti-virus issue. thanks
fejeena Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 It is a rare error. Happened to me with my game for the first time about 8-9 years ago, and only 3 times. Once it was a dll file from the construction set, then the Oblivion.exe and then the OBSE-loader.exe. First time I was with Windows7 ( without Microsoft Defender ) . Then I set the whole Oblivion folder to the exception list. And I never had problems with the firewall or Microsoft Defender, only with additional antivirus programs.
coolfreaky Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 i do not know if it is relavent but it reminds me 2 things : - make an update of " DotNet " and of " VC-redist " both from microsoft.com . - and oblivion.exe & oblivionLauncher.exe compatibility mode ( How do I run Oblivion in compatibility mode? - Bethesda Support \ ) .
