Neels van Greune Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Hi Fellow Simmers, I am suddenly getting random sims with that funny red and white / black clothing and I don't even know where to start looking for the problem, any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards, Neels.
Crashdown117 Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Red and white checkers with question marks are a placeholder texture and if I'm not mistaken, it means that there is a mesh but no texture associated with it (i.e. the game knows about the general shape of a top or dress, but not about its color and all that). In any case, if this happens with custom content, the creator likely forgot to add something to the .package file or it's broken in some other way, so let them know about it. If it happens with stuff from the game itself, run a game repair via Origin / verify file integrity via Steam and it should be fixed again.

Regards, Neels. It could also be the opposite case, that it is a recolor so it only includes textures and it is missing the original mess (for example if it is a recolor for a dress cc, and you do not own that dress that includes the original mesh) or a recolor for an item in a pack that you do not own (for example a recolor for clothing in lets say "get famous", but you do not own that pack, the sim will show the weird re/white checkers). The easiest way to see it is using sims4 tray importer. You can give a sim the problematic piece of cc (it will look white/red checkers in CAS too), save it to the gallery, exit game, open sim4trayimporter, select the sim, select "cc", there you will see a list of all cc in that sim, you will see if it is missing dependencies and the name of the cc, so you can look in the download page it it requires something else (a mesh) to work.
Neels van Greune Posted February 14, 2023 Author Posted February 14, 2023 Hi there Sonja, I am not a technical person but it looks like the problem is when the sim changes to the nude outfit. Now how do I rectify that. Please try to give me step by step instructions. This old brain is stupid ???? Love to hear from you. Regards, Neels

Regards, Neels Open the problematic sim in CAS (where you create new sims and edit them). Save it to your gallery (save household). Download and install sims 4 tray importer: Sims 4 Tray Importer (luniversims.com) You can do something similar if you have better exceptions installed, but i guess you do not, so doing this with sims 4 tray importer is easier. Start sims 4 tray importer (you can do it after you exit the sims 4 game, or while you are playing, it does not matter). On the up left corner click on "library" (see picture). Click on the sim that you saved in your gallery, you will get something like this screen (see picture): Click on "cc" right over the big picture, you will get something like this: That is a list fo all the custom content that sim has. Go though the list, click on every item until you see the bugged piece of custom content (it will show a red/white chekers picture in the preview instead of the picture of the cc: It will also say something like "missing dependencies": Then you have 2 options: Look at the name of the item and the creator, look for it on google or if you remember it the website where you downloaded the item, check if it requires any other piece of custom content or a certain game pack (it will always be "required content" or something like that, and it will in most situations give a link to get the required content). Download it, put it in your mods folder, and it should work fine. In many cases sims 4 tray importer will fin the custom content for you, just right click on the name and choose "find on google": Option 2 is just remove that custom content from your mods folder. How? If you right click on the name it will give you the option to "show containing folder", then just delete the item: I hope it is clear enough, this is the easiest way find that broken content. You should be able to find it quite easy but just ask again if you have difficulties.
Neels van Greune Posted February 14, 2023 Author Posted February 14, 2023 Hi Sonja, Thank you very much for going through all the trouble to set out everything in such a nice and understanding manner. Thanks for all your help. Neels.

Thanks for all your help. Neels. That is odd. If it is not custom content it might be corrupted game files, you can try repairing the game. If that does not fix it could you upload a screenshot of both the bugged sim in game, while it is showing the red/white checkers, and a screenshot of the sim when you have it "opened" in the "cc" screen in sims 4 tray importer?
Neels van Greune Posted February 15, 2023 Author Posted February 15, 2023 That is what she looks like in Nude Outfit in CAS. I don't know how to take a screenshot from Tray Importer. Thanks for all your help. I ever reloaded the Sims. It must be a Mod. Neels.
Neels van Greune Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 Hi Sonja, After I reloaded the Sims and all the mods the Red and White Block are gone but now some of the Sims have brown paper bags over their heads, and all the Sims that come to my Sims house wear the same brown paper bags. The agony continues. I feel like giving up the Sims all together. Neels. 1

I'm not Sonja, but I had the same issue a while ago, so I figured I might chime in again. I answered in your other thread, because that one will be easier to find for others with similar problems (https://www.loverslab.com/topic/205761-paper-bags-over-heads/). Cheers.

The bags over their head are a result of the Neighborhood Action Plan introduced in the Eco Lifestyle pack. https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Neighborhood_action_plan Shift+Click your mailbox, then find the "Instant Repeal Neighborhood Action Plan...". You'll get a pop up window and it will show the list of the currently active plans. There you'll find the "We Wear Bags" plan that's causing them all to wear paper bags over their heads. Click it to remove it. I recommend removing all of them. Then open the game menu, go to Game Options. Pack Settings. Remove the check mark from "Enable NPC Voting". This should prevent this from happening again.
