Brand New Install, Low FPS with Rudy ENB

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just as the title says I've been working on this set up all week, just transferred over from LE. I installed high def textures but whenever I get Rudy ENB activated, my FPS dips to like 22-27. Ive changed settings, ive done BethINI, low, I've installed ENBoost. Nothing seems to bring my FPS up. Whenever I turn the ENB off with the 2k-4k textures, the FPS jumps back up to 60. What am I doing wrong? I uninstalled the texture files and went back to vanilla and the ENB is still eating everything up. FPS doesnt change.

Im currently following a guide and I've read all details before installing. Heres what my GUI looks like.

Disable antialiasing in the game's graphics settings or graphics driver when using ENB.

Yeah its disabled. I did that via Nvidia inspector and Game settings. Still no change...

Im going to try and install other enbs but after doing some research, I learned that Rudy is more middle of the road and shouldnt be too bad. I installed eFPS and no change there either.

Not sure if I can be of any help at all, as I'm quite messy and inconsistent in my feeble attempts to build a stable mod list, but I already have a small collection of notes, hints, tips and tricks, concerning some of the numerous problems and issues which will most likely occur at some point of the process, as I don't even try to remember any such info. :)

I found this in a txt file labeled Hints in my ENB install folder:

Also these lines in skyrimprefs.ini should look like this (from the rudy enb mod page, I think they are all under "display"):

bSAO_CS_Enable=0
bSAOEnable=0
bEnableImprovedSnow=0
bVolumetricLightingEnable=1
bUse64bitsHDRRenderTarget=1
bDrawLandShadows=1
fGamma=1.0000
bDoDepthOfField=1

I'm using Rudy ENB for Obsidian weathers, and while my FPS drop dramatically here and there, on average they keep the number between 50 and 60 FPS, on an already quite old and weak PC.

This is the nature of ENBs for Skyrim SE. Rudy ENB has all of the settings very high by default. I have a GTX 1660, and the difference between no ENB and Rudy ENB is 150+ fps vs 35 fps. After tweaking the settings, I have around 50-60 fps depending on the environment.

You can change some things in the ENB UI to get better fps. The biggest offender is ambient occlusion (SSAO). Try lowering the quality of this or turning it off. You might also want to look at your anti-aliasing and sky lighting settings. Look at the postpass effects in the right hand UI window as well. Try turning things off or changing their quality until you are happy with the performance and looks.

Another thing you can change are some ini settings. Grass density only matters if you are outside somewhere with grass, but can still help. In the Skyrim.ini, there is a line iMinGrassSize=number. This number controls the density of grass, so a higher number means less grass and possibly more frames. This number is usually between 40-100. In SkyrimPrefs.ini this time, there is iShadowMapResolution=number. This number controls the resolution used for shadows. You can lower it to gain some performance, make sure to use the proper square resolutions like 1024 or 512.

Finally, as the people above me pointed out, turn off all of the default graphic processing that SE comes with. Running SSAO and AA through the game and ENB at the same time is going to tank your fps.
