valsta Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I recently decided I wanted to change the face of my character because I messed up a bit with the cheekbones which caused some annoying clipping with masks and some headgear. So I looked around a bit and found "Oblivion Face Exhange Lite" which basicly lets you load, save and apply faces to save files. I made a backup of my savefile and went into the game, using the command "showracemenu" this let me fix the face issues, however this also resets all the stats of the character. So I decided to use Oblivion Face Exhange to copy the face from that savefile into a .off (Oblivion Face File) and then load up my savefile backup (to get all the stats back) and then apply the Face File to the save. In theory this should work (atleast in my head) but I still ran into a very big problem. Whenever I load up the save (the backed up save with the new face), I can open my menus and I can see that the new face is correctly on my character, and all my stats are intact. but whenever I move the mouse, click any movement keys, camera change key or anything that does anything in the game world itself (Menu's not included), the game freezes and is not responding at all. I have to end the process in task manager, that labels the program as "not responding". NOTE: All my mods and saves worked perfectly before I copied and applied the face file to the save. Poontank Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 For the issue with the freezing up of the new save I have no clue (except maybe a suspicion about that chase camera mod?). I had used 'Face Exchange Lite' a few times before for testing purpose but never encountered such a problem. But I'm not using any camera mods, that's what makes me think the issue might be related to that one. Does the freezing also happen now with older saves? If not, use the backup of your last savegame and do the following: Just access the race menu as usual with showracemenu, deactivate the console (to have a clean screen and thus a clear view on your character) and start tweaking the face/the cheekbone area. Once you're done however, press the console key again and then bring up the esc key options menu. Save the game like normal (the save option is greyed out if the console isn't active) and immediately reload this save. It's the 'official' technique to use the race menu without mucking up the stats. No actual need for an external utility just to tweak one element of your character's face.

Thank you so much, worked perfectly. Im suprised it was such an easy way compared to the long time taken to find and download the programs, and searching through all the pages on google, 90% of which, saying that Im screwed. But anyways, Thanks
Poontank Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I'm glad the previous saves are still working. A good example for the helpfulness of backups and keeping lots of saves. It's also possible to transfer face data using Wrye Bash, either from one save to another or even importing a player character's face into a mod's esp.
