Help for a newcomer

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm a newcomer and I'm in the process of assembling a collection of mods to make my "dream Oblivion". The task is rather daunting; thousands of mods to browse through, with mod requirements and mod incompatibilities. Many mods are identified only with acronyms and with little explanation to what they mean.

I think I'm getting the hang of it, but I would feel much more confident with the guidance of some more experienced mod users. I will list the mods I intend to use. I would appreciate it if some kind souls could point me toward better alternatives if any, warn me of foreseeable conflicts in my choices, and show me really good mod I didn't know about. I usually prefer the packages and OMODs; it's less an headache to install.

I have already installed the basic systems to use mods: BOSS, OBMM, OBSE, Wyre Bash and a few others as explained here : http://www.loverslab.com/topic/8893-installation-guide-with-lovers-mbp-and-wyre-with-bashed-patch/

I downloaded the unofficial patches:
http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/5296//?
http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/10739//?
http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/9969//?

--- Of course I want to sex-up my Oblivion, but I also want to upgrade the base game too. ---

To look and sound better:

"Weather - All Natural" for better weather, interior and lighting: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/9969//?
"OBGE Liquid Water": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/37825//?
"Sounds of Cyrodiil" for more ambient sounds: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/39804//?
"Oblivion Symphonic Variations Music Suite" for more music: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/11436//?
"Oblivion Music Overdose" for even more music: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/42493//?
"Oblivion Sound Sets - OMOD Ready" to make my character say something: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/26234//?
"Qarls Texture Pack III Full v1_3_OMOD" for better textures: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/18498//?
"Bomret Texture Pack for Shivering Isles": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/28378//?
*** I'm still seeking a vegetation upgrade. "Lush and Gaudy" seems the most complete one, but I don't like the style.

Some useful tools:

"AddMapMarkers mod" for map markers without fast travel: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/7103//?
"Alternative Start Arrive by Ship" for some customization and skipping the normal startup: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/11495//?
"DarNified UI" for a better UI: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/10763//?
"Enchantment Restore Over Time OBSE": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/9544//?
"Realistic Leveling" for a better leveling system: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/13879//?
"Stolen Item Ownership" to get rid of the "stolen" tags: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/35723//?

To make combat more interesting:

"Midas Magic Spells of Aurum Full v0961a_OMOD" for magic variety (I know it's not the latest version, but I preffer OMODs): http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/18507//?
"Deadly Reflex OMOD" for a better combat system: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/26103//?
.. and the many requirements of Deadly Reflex:
"NifSE": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/21292//?
"Deadly Reflex 6 - NiFSE1-0 Release Compatibility Fix": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/40336//?
"Drop Lit Torches OBSE": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/16282/?
"HUD Status Bars": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/34905//?
"Oblivion Graphics Extender" also usefull for the water mod: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/30054//?

Oblivion often feels empty to me, so I'm adding people:

"Crowded Cities 12": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/6665//?
"Populated Prisons": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/25232//?
"Crowded Roads Advanced": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/18251//?

--- And now, to make Oblivion sexy. ---

"Mbp ++ allin1 omod v2.1beta" to make people more beautiful: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/2590-mbp-allin1-omod-v21beta/#pid92804
"Lovers Animation Workshop Skeleton Mark II": http://www.loverslab.com/topic/13516-lovers-animation-workshop-skeleton-mark-ii/

For animations, I think I'm getting an headache. It seems I will have to pick multiple mods... (as if my list wasn't already getting long. hehehe) I'm not completely sold on my choices so far.
"NoMaaM BBB Animation Replacer" to cover the basics: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/35551//?
"Personality Idles4" for idle animations: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/14280//?
"Womans Move - Female Walking Animation Replacer" for my walk animation : http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/33998//?
"Womans Move - Female Running Animation Replacer": http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/38375//?
"Sensual Walks for Female NPCs" for the NPCs walk animation: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/28223//?
"Oblivion Pose Pack and Erotic Oblivion Pose Pack" maybe.. just for fun: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/13193//?

I'm also seeking a complete replacement for the standard clothes and armors. From the "MBP" mod above, I think I will be using "Robert / Muscular" type for males and HGEC Ecup (or something around this) for females. Sadly, choices seems limited for HGEC compared to DMRA type bodies on that front.

Also, I'm not sure I understand well. Some armor mods are tagged BBB, some are not. Does that mean that at first, the armors didn't have bouncing boobs? The technology came later and only a portion of the armors made were upgraded to BBB?

For extra clothes & armor, I was thinking of adding the Apachii stores (goddess & hero), but again I'm not entirely sure of it's compatibility with the previous mods. And if I guess correctly, there is no BBB here.
http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/13437//?
http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/22962//?

I will install the "Lovers with PK" and the "Lovers Creatures 2.0" mods. There is a great list of additional mods for this. When I'll get a better grasp at all this, I'll feel better equipped to choose additional "Lovers" mods. Anyhow, if you have any good recommendations for sex mods (lovers or non-lovers), I'm all ears. But first, I try to clear the "body type / animation / armor" mess. :)

I know there is a lot of questions in this post. I intend to edit some out when my searches will come to fruition. Hopefully, my own list will be helpful for other newcomers.

Thanks

I won't provide links to most things. You can find them here, or on the nexus. A simple google search should do. If there is a particular mod you cannot find, you can ask and I'll provide a link to it.

Grab a copy of OBGEv3 and switch out your water mod for Liquid Water. Or you can use Skyrimized Water. Or keep the one you got, if you prefer.

For a texture pack, use Quarl's Texture Pack v3 and one of the Lush and Gaudy mods (pick whichever fits your tastes best). Alternatively, you can use Detailed Terrain.

Koldorn's Lava is, in my opinion, the best lava mod out there (note that it deals ridiculous amounts of damage, so if you step into it it's game over).

For sky textures you'll have to go to the nexus and choose yourself; I'm not an expert in those (having tried a grand total of one replacer).

You can use Crowded Roads to fill Oblivion's roads a bit. Perhaps From 2CH Lives! can also be useful to you.

For useful mods, you probably will want Activate Inventory and Spell and Item Delete (two separate mods). They do pretty much what you'd expect. Kill the Statues may be useful to you in the future.

For the skeleton, you should use Gerra6's one, found here: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/13516-lovers-animation-workshop-skeleton-mark-ii/

Animations are something you'll have to pick yourself - the nexus has a bunch, and there are more around the web.

I can suggest Silver Archer, though, as it is one of my favorites. You can also use Women Move or anything else that catches your fancy.

You'll have to choose a body type before I can suggest a replacer. Note that not all breast sizes have complete replacers made for them.

The most common body is HGEC for females and Robert's for males. You'll probably want to stick with those.

I suggest you take a look at Setbody Reloaded and choose from it.

Lovers can work, and some of it's mods also require, MBP. Don't worry about incompatibilities on that front.

The 11-200 animation replacer is for sex animations. Not what you are looking for, but you are probably going to want to grab it anyway (Gregathit's animations are infinitely better than the original ones). You may wish to take a look at the Daedra Sutra - which is a list of all the animations currently available except for those in the 11-200 replacer - and see if there are any of the old ones that you wish to have alongside\instead of the new ones.

I hope you've got a combat mod in mind, or Oblivion's combat will become very boring very quickly. Something like Midas Magic, along with Deadly Reflex or Unnecessary Violence should do.

Thanks ThatOne, it's been very helpful.

I will definitely be adding Midas Magic and Deadly Reflex. That was one big gap in my plan.

I will be using a few of your other recommendations too.

Cherry picking animations will probably be a little more of a chore than I would I liked too. I did some exploration and found a few preferred ones.

For body type, yeah I was aiming for HGEC and Robert's.

I have edited my original post to reflect where I am a this point.

Just looked over your links, and they don't include this: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/1982-mbp-based-npc-replacer-081b-by-es74/

MBP does not, by itself, change any of the NPCs, so you may wish to grab it.

This may prove useful to you, if you don't want to break too many quests by going into dungeons: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/40436/?

This might be interesting, but be aware that running it may kill off some of your NPCs: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/37908/?

This next step is optional. Depending on your computer, you may or may not wish to do this.

-Add Alive Waters to make Oblivion's waters worth exploring. Or at least looking at. On the nexus.

-Unique Landscapes to improve certain areas of the game. There are too many of those to list, and you'll just have to go through them and choose the ones you want if you do decide to use them.

-Better Cities, Open Cities or Cyrodil Rebuilt. I personally prefer Cyrodil Rebuilt.

Add in different dungeon types to make the game "slightly" more interesting:

-Dwemer Ruins: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/38163/?

-Skyrim Tombs: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/38064/?

-Additional dungeons around Blackwood: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/36152/?

-An "oldschool" dungeon, if you are into that: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/38902/?

-Daedric Shrines: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/31636/?

depending on what you want I can tell you that the crowded roads Mods i have tried are not real friendly to some lovers mods they have scripted NPC that are disabled or killed at night, and respwned at day time, making them very un predictable, and a nusance to most bondage mods.

I have had good luck with some of the crowded cities, the ones that use full time NPC, but some of them are a bit flacky as well, mostly because they did some bad radiant AI packages. it will take some trial and error on your part to weed out the troublesome ones.

But for the most part any Crowded Tamrial mod that use's scripting to disable, or kill there NPC at night, or when they reach certain point's in there travels are bad news.

Try to run mods of that sort that have stable full time NPC, with routine's, and sleeping area's, and that do not get shut down by script's, or for that part have scripts. Better if they just use the radiant AI.

One that I do like if you go in and fix the ugly faces in it is English BillsBurg, I believe it was a french person that made it, but it was translated to English, and except for the Ugly NPC's is very well done. For the most part to fix the NPC just make them Younger, and it will improve them a lot.
