The game crashes in Dustman's cairn

> As tittle says: the game crashes in Dustman's cairn during "proving honor" quest after Farkas kills silverhands in werewolf form just before the iron grid gate lifts up.  Here is log file if it might help. Thank you in advance.

  •  
  • After pulling the lever and getting trapped behind the gate, the game may freeze or crash at the point when Farkas is supposed to transform into a werewolf and then free you.
    • Reloading an earlier save and entering the location again may work.
    • PC Use the Console command disable, exit and re-enter the console, the use enable to get him unstuck.
    • PC Use the Console command kill, followed by resurrect on Farkas to reset him can also work.
    • Hitting Farkas with Unrelenting Force before triggering the lever may put him in a position where he is able to overcome the freeze.
  • While inside the locked alcove trap, Farkas may not help you.

> Just a note: can't kill Farkas. He is protected or essential by the game. If it means something: the game was started by Alternative start mod as a member of Companions. None of the original game quests (like Unbound and similar) were done.

Get SSE Engine Fixes and in config file set RegularQuicksaves variable as 'true'. Pressing F5 will now create a normal save file without needing to go into menu. Super convenient.

Well you could just do "setstage C01 200" before farkas turns. Then he should just walk back to Jorrvaskr. You could select him then do "moveto player" on him in Jorrvaskr to bring him back there.

I experienced the same multiple times.

 

My fix was...

 

Let Farkas kill the Silver Hand. When he goes for the lever use console "COC Whiterun". You will be transported to the bridge between Riverwood and Whiterun.

 

Now fast travel back to Dustman's Cairn and enter. You will meet Farkas in the same room and continue the mission.

Let me tell you my "work around" on this issues since this is a problem for such a long time. If it is caused by SoS or XPMSE, i don´t know but it will always happen at this very specific moment.

 

So when you enter the hall Farkas will say something about like that this is an ritual room from the ancient nords. Then he will go to the Enchantment Table an stand there until the player pulls the lewer and locks him/herself in the room.

 

So do this:

- go to Farkas before going to the room with the lewer

- hover your hud over him

- go the MCM Menu of SoS

- there you can activated/deactivate schlong for "selected" npc (Farkas now in our case)

- deactivate schlong by choosing "no schlong"

- leave menu, save game

- the proceed with going to the room and pulling the lewer

- now, after he transform into his werewolf form and killng the silverhand henchmen the game will not crash when the gate opens

- after dialog, repeat the procedure and activate the schlong again for sexy time at the and of the dungeon, in case you have SL Adventures installed

 

I pernonally don´t bother anymore with solving the issue, it exist for ages and i can go around it simply by doing 20 seconds of MCM action.

 

I hope that might help, the only problem might by to forget about it on a new game. :D

little EDIT:

 

To just disable the werewolve schlong in MCM for SoS will NOT help. In my case (or most likely every ones case) this function will already be disabled due to the fact that most people are using BakaFactory´s ABC mod which requires to turn of SoS Werewolves schlongs.

 

You have to disable SoS Schlong on Farkas specific to not recieve a crash at this specific moment.
