wunderbar Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I love side-quests, but this is getting silly. I thought to myself, "Hey now, don't want to get ahead of myself, so I'll take a break with the main story quests and work on some side quests." But the joy of one side quest leading you to a new city with 8 more side quests quickly wore thin. :-( Also, in order to become a Thane in Morthal, I have to help all the villagers. Did the whole burned down house quest line, and I'm aware that the other two things I'm supposed to help with are the noises in the marsh, and people not liking the wizard. The thing is, I've talked to damn near everyone, and nobody actually gives quests. So, what, am I just supposed to wait out in the marsh at night? On an unrelated note, what are the upstanding denizens of Lovers Lab going for - Imperial or Stormcloak? I've currently got both misc quests to train to be part of the Legion, and to join the Stormcloaks.
Evilokami Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 i like imperial. Stormcloak seems to be the whole reason you were captured in the start.
wunderbar Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 I was originally kind of hesitant about the Imperials, mostly because RPGs tend to paint big countries with hold over foreign lands as oppressors. However, for one, you find out the Stormcloaks are all butthurt over worshiping Talos being outlawed, and then you their would-be king going HERP FUCK DEM ELF OVERLORDS while his city has a bunch of dark elves in it. Kind of made him seem like a dick. I'm kind of not sure where to go myself, at least for now. So I'll keep doing side quests (as painful as that is), and then head back to the main junk.
Mouse Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Also' date=' in order to become a Thane in Morthal, I have to help all the villagers. One, have a nice brawl with the local loudmouth (he'll love it) and deliver message for Jarl's... daughter I think she was. Easy job.
Janor Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 You're complaining that the game is loaded with content? There's new and crazy stuff to do everywhere you look, I can't even recall a recent game that had this much sheer replay value to it. No one's forcing you to do any of those quests at all. It's completely optional. I'll take Skyrim over the vast, empty and soulless world of Morrowind and Oblivion any day.
polluxval Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 so if there are not enough quests people complain. if there are too many quests, people complain... oh well. *sigh*
Guest Donkey Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 It is refreshing having so many side quests.. Witch is only a huge plus. because you will not run out of things to do.. Btw this is the first time i see a complaint about to many side quests.. You should be thrilled..
ReMeDy Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I've heard so many valid complaints from so many different people, including... 1.) Bad interface 2.) Old looking characters 3.) Map doesn't show roads 4.) Hardware issues (FPS, crashing, etc.) 5.) XBox 360 syndrome 6.) Shadows rendered on cpu and not video card 7.) Destruction spells not scaling well with high leveled characters 8.) Key binding issues. 9.) Inaccurate vampire lore and abilities. 10.) Dead guy hiring thugs to kill you. 11.) SkyrimLauncher.exe resetting .ini settings. 12.) Horses being prioritized as targets over the protagonist. 13.) And more (trust me, I've heard it all). But for you... I have to apologize in advance, but your complaint has got to be the dumbest complaint I have ever read in the history of gaming forums. Not only is all the side-questing optional, but some of it is quite entertaining, and like everything else, it is fully voice-acted. When I was opening up this topic, I was expecting you to be thrilled by the side quests. I'm shocked that you are not. I'd just pick one of the issues from my above list and start a new topic on it. There's a wealth of other more productive complaints to discuss.
Shantotto Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I'm not one to complain about content, but I think getting loaded with "plz good sir, venture to the other side of the world to retrieve this thingy/deliver this thingy to this person/clear out this place/fetch me 10 if these things" as soon as you step into town is not particularly exciting. Content for the sake of content doesn't make it good. I'm liking the game a lot but the bombardment of fed-ex quests cheapens it. The world is beautifully crafted and deserves beautifully crafted quests as well, not fed-ex quests that are there just to fulfill some "I can play forever!!" fantasy.

[/quote'] Indeed, last time I got another fetch quest to end of the map - to village that I didn't had idea that exist... Glared on map, calculated that I will need to ride there 10min... Rage quit. And Inventory screen sux big time...
Redfuzzy Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I'm guessing the fetch/kill/gather/courier quests are from the radiant system they were raving about. Killing 10 bears and bringing back their pelts? Hides? It just doesn't compare with the Brotherhood quest line, or even the Companion quest line. I'd be totally down with a 'Kill all Spiders, Everywhere, Exterminate' radiant quest though. Totally. Damn things always skitter right to me and pull me out of hiding.
ogre3000 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Well the main reason of those quests is to make you explore the world...however 2 much exploring can be boring
Guest Loogie Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 So far, I'm finding Skyrim to be as bland and generic as Oblivion. Starting to think they simply paid reviewers to repeat their PR department's claims that it's better now.
Shantotto Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I think the game has a lot of problems but I must say that I have no idea how one could equate it to Oblivion in that regard. I think they did a really good job and stepped up their game in creating the game-world, it feels a *lot* more "real" and has a much larger sense of culture and history than Oblivion ever had. I was supremely disappointed in Oblivion and Fallout 3 (which was better than Oblivion but a poor Fallout game) and quite bitter at Bethesda but I think they've genuinely really improved with Skyrim even though some problems remain. Well the main reason of those quests is to make you explore the world...however 2 much exploring can be boring Agree to a point but I don't really need fed-ex quests to explore the world personally. It's a TES game for crying out loud, who needs an excuse to go out and explore the world?
Guest Loogie Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 The cities are actually laid out in a realistic manner, with supporting outliers surrounding them, but I have yet to receive a quest where I'm emotionally vested in the outcome, and I have yet to meet a character with any depth aside from Whatshisface the Singer.
Guest Donkey Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I think we should all just chill.. And quite comparing them to previous game and just take it as brand new one. With that in mind we won't be disappointed by the outcome, what we debate here is the exact same thing when oblivion was first finished and immediately we starting to compare it with morrowind.. If we are going to compare then fine here is one.. How many where annoyed by the fact oblivion never played right, and always crashing.. I have spend hours and hours on this now.. And never seen a stable game like this from bethesda. So that is refreshing.
wunderbar Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 I really wasn't complaining, and as people already stated, the side quests that I found "silly" were the vast amount of fetch quests. Take Rifton, for example. Have to collect 10 of each different alchemy items, and she wants three - then there are people in the same town who want fire salts, as well as wraith teeth. I only just join the companions, and I'm being asked to travel to the very south east corner of the map, and the closest town you can take a carriage to is still a good distance away. It kind of feels like an MMO, where you half-dread talking to NPCs because they'll want x amount of rare ingredient from the other side of the world map. But sheesh, most of the main post was about stormcloaks and imperials, and then a question about side quests I myself was having issues with. I dunno, I was kind of hoping people could actually discuss something at least a little related to my post, instead of complaining about me "complaining" about the game having a ton of side quests (guess I should have rephrased that as '5 fetch quests per town').
Symon Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 So far' date=' I'm finding Skyrim to be as bland and generic as Oblivion. Starting to think they simply paid reviewers to repeat their PR department's claims that it's better now.[/quote'] Probably! Truly independent reviews are hard to find these days. Games can truly stink to high heaven and STILL get rave reviews. I stopped bothering with them years ago.
wunderbar Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Paid reviews? Nonsense. http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3
Symon Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I'm presuming your complaint is regarding the 'generic' quests, Likeitsillegal? In which case, I can sympathize. I'm reminded of the initial release of Sacred. It had infinite generic quests too. (Any one else remember the horror of being asked to find a missing chicken by following the trail of broken twigs?) The makers eventually realized they were rather lacking, ripped them out, but added in one bit of dialog involving broken twigs. Endless generic quests do need to be done well, or they are best ignored.
ragindude Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 There's a lot of side-quests, that's for damn sure. I can't really complain since I like to be sent across the map to kill the bandits chief and before you do that, there's a shitload of place to explore and more quests to do. The journey beat the destination imo. It just sad that the main quest is only 2 hours long. It was way longer in Oblivion no? I bet they're going to swarm us with DLCs.
wunderbar Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Yeah Symon, pretty much. The main quests that are a grievance are the "go and collect x amount of this," or, "go through this dungeon on the other side of the map to receive one item." I'm having a blast with a lot of the other side quests, don't get me wrong, but 2 days of side quests, you begin to know when a boring quest is on the way. Hmm, DLC, that'd be interesting. I'd be happier if they took care of all the game crashing bugs, since they seem to be a lot more prevalent than what happened with FONV's release. Still, Bethesda typically makes good DLC, so I doubt I'd hate it. Anyone else meet that dog, uhh, Meeto? He freaked out when I told him to wait, and just sat in the water whimpering while a Slaughterfish bit him. Stupid dog.
