does SMP work like HDT?

Hello,

I'm now switching from LE to SE as so many cool mods are only available for SE.

I was wondering if SMP works similiar to HDT and most important if I can also change the weight paint in bodyslide to make it more realistic for certain armor types

HDT-SMP, SMP, HDT (apparently?), Fast SMP, Karonar's SMP, ....

All the same thing, mostly anyways.

Though I have seen people refer to the high heels mod as "HDT" in which case the answer to your question is "no", but I don't think that's what you're asking.

As for question #2, in BodySlide? No, but in Outfit Studio you can.

SMP is more advanced physics engine handling but it comes at a high CPU cost.

For body you should consider using partial SMP and CBPC. SMP hair and armors can really tank your performance, depending on your hardware ofc.

I run on an i7-9700K proc. I use full SMP for body and toggle to CBPC for a moment when I need to reset if something goes wonky due to game mechanics or some glitch in the matrix. In rare cases, it requires firing an smp reset from console.  (HDT-SMP under Skyrim 1.5.97) works great. My hair is of course HDT, (I think all "floppy/flouncy/bouncy"  hair is HDT, as are afaik, many of the bits of garb.

For SL related stuff, I'll admit that I use a preventative approach and have incorporated an "automatic" SMP reset at the end of animation sequences,  using a simple custom script (uncompiled) in SL Triggers

I generally leave NPCs using CBPC.

You might want less SMP dependent body physics or even full CBPC if you run on an older proc.

HDT is just the name of the modder and can refer to their high heels mod, SMP physics, or the havok physics extension.

So I don't know for sure what you are asking here. If you are asking is the SMP physics in SE going to be similar to the SMP in LE then the answer is yes. It is almost a direct port.

The main difference in physics engines is with HDT-PE and CBPC. In LE HDT-PE was used more much more than jsut bodies because it was an extension of Havok, Skyrim's native physics. CBPC is used primarily only for bodies in comparison. As far as weight painting goes, you can do that in outfit studio, as mentioned above. Also you can tweak the various config files.
