What do negative skill level values do to each skill?

Not sure if this is the right forum section to ask this. I can't find anything online because all I get on google is people reporting bugs of their skills going into negative, but I am trying to make some harsh mod effects for some stuff so my question is which ones actually make it more difficult, and just in case are they not buffs instead (I wouldn't put it past bethesda to have negative numbers somehow buff the player instead). I figured negative speech should at least impact the prices, but what about stuff like heavy armor, one handed or destruction, do they lower damage/armor rating?

Skill effects are documented here. In most cases you'll find a "each skill point grants X" type of sentence near the start of the description. In other cases you'll need to scroll down and check the different effects the skill has (if it's something that involves several formulas or conditions, like Speech).

For the most part archery, 1handed and 2handed grant additional damage. HA and LA grant additional Armor Rating, Block reduces more damage (with different formulas for shields and weapons). Magic skills reduce the magicka cost of spells, some mods also make it so spells scale in magnitude or duration with the respective skill.

I guess negative values would produce the opposite effect, making all these stats worse. You can test this in a few minutes using some console commands to alter and check the actor values.

Thanks, actual decent wiki is what I was missing for skyrim.

UESP had existed since 1996. It is THE wiki for all things Elder Scrolls and has been for decades. There is nothing else that can compare.

Funnily enough when I played elder scroll games normally I never really wanted to wiki anything, its when I started modding lewd stuff in that I actually wanted to know about how exactly some stuff works. I will for sure use this one whenever I need it.

There's lore as well. Lotsa lore. Perhaps the best collection of TES lore anywhere on the internet.
