Maybe someone has any ideas : ), Game crashes when

I got pulled into this Fallout 4 modding by MxR vids on youtube

I am 100% new to modding (except for minor Fallout 2 mods back in the day a quarter century ago) but have read the various instructions on here and Nexus, am computer literate (if by the standards of my generation even highly literate)

But I still had to learn what a mod utility was (I use Vortex now, just got it a week ago) that DLCs are the new word for expansion packs, what an INI file is etc.

After about 40 hours of downloading's mods, restarting, installing, uninstalling, sleuthing which are incompatible and make my game crash on start up, with which by trial and error etc etc etc.. I finally got the game to work last night with the main salacious mods I care about apparently working.

I did this all on my own. I would have offered $100/hr for someone else to do it remotely but all the young computer science guys at my work make too much money to be interested it seems.

I still have a couple of other issues though:

a)Game crashes when I try to do a  R) transfer command with any container/wokbench etc.

I can take stuff out of a container via E) command just fine.

But the only way I can get rid of stuff is to drop it on the grounds.

Any attempt to put it into a container crashes the game.

Not a huge problem early in the game (I just got done with using my power armor to destroy the opposition at concord and dropped it on the floor at red Rocket so it still early in the game) but I suspect it will become a big problem soon.

This has been in issue the beginning of my most recent install, perhaps even the one before that too and this was either unmodded or lightly modded back then.

but then I was more focused on getting the mods to work and this did not bother me too much. But i know it will become an issue later in the game.. And a couple of uninstalls/reinstalls did not fix it.

b) Another problem but this more recent (as of last couple hours)

sometime during the  Concord mission before I got the power armor but after I got inside the museum, I often get the screen message "No one around here seems to care that you are naked" ( I am playing the sexharassments mod wich gives this message when you are , you guessed it, naked and people are around. but.... I get this msg even fully dressed and with no one around!)

I am not naked and am equipping clothes items all the time.

For a it I thought maybe the clothes with no armor function dont count for some reason, but it also happend to me in powerarmor.

I am worried this may become an issue when I am in settlements.

c) another problem I have is that during the sexharrassment actions here is no audible dialog.

I tried positing the character too and that worked, but again no dialog form the NPC at all neither caption nor audio and he only dialog from Nora is short worded options even though she is moving her moth for a lot more words clearly.

Even no written "talk" from the NPC for me to read .

So I do not know what he is proposing/demanding of my character in hraassment mode and I have to say Yes, no, etc blind to what is being asked/demanded/threatened of my character

My character has its talk options written out, the NPS neither shows a caption for an audible dialog.

During the original "Just become a whore" dialog form the NPC also no captions nor audio I had to go solely by Noras captions.

And on a side note not  big issue I dont think, but throwing it in here for completeness sake.. some of the plug ins seem to demand "all the DLCs", but  I am locked out of "Wasteland Workshop" and "Automatron" too its says "available soon".

I have all the ones that Steam allowed me to download/buy.

I know forums ettiquette doesnt like to be presented with more than one bug to offer thoughts on, but those 3 is what I have?

My active plugs-ins are listed here in the attachments (disabled ones I hid)

Last night I also modified the INI file with the following in accordance with  instructions on this forum

adding this at the end of it:

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Weirdly it instructed me to put this into the Fallout4_Custom.ini files. but there is no such thing in my files, (also attached as pic)

So used the Fallout4_Default.ini files instead which was the only fallout xxxx .ini file I had, and I was hopeful the difference in name might be a configuration thing from the instructiond being older( instructions were from 2017)

I dont easily ask for help and put in all hard work on my own.

but I am at  a point where I suspect these remaining issues, a),b) and c) may cause major issue down the line.

show all my plug ins

(EDIT for privacy reasons I have delete the files showing the mods )

i do not mod fallout 4 but maybe the expanded dialogue is incompatible with harassment, also this almost never fails have a clean install and do everything from the beggining, and be careful around mixing nexus and LL mods sometimes the vortex alters some value and screws over the LL mod, vice versa is also possible.

know what every mod does and alters, and then manage the load order by clicking "manage rules" in vortex

as for the ini file check the vortex folder (fallout 4 folder in that folder), maybe it is there

hope this helps somewhat

yes it does!

Thank you so much!?

Keep 'em coming folks!

i dont know precisely what you mean by that, expanded dialogue doesnt go well with modded dialogues i think, it is best to just disable it and forget it, as for everything else i would just remove all the mods before reinstalling fallout 4 and then building the mods on one core mod, in that case that would be aaf i think, then slowly add other mods (LL first) onto the mod list while paying close attention to mod descriptions

then just load up the game after every mod and check if everything that didnt work works or if something new broke

also i forgot to clarify fallout custom ini may be found in %appdata% in the fallout 4 folder located in the vortex folder

also i think that you downloaded the latest version of fallout 4 bcs it was from steam, this is important for f4se, just compare the versions of the two, if they are the same everything with f4se is probably alright

Thank you!

1) Where is this toggle??

2)This is what I attempted to do. Starting with basic stuff, then add a vanilla collection and then so on and so forth. The only (at the time to me) minor glitch was not being able to put things into containers so I didn't sweat that but now I see it may be an issue in the future.

These other 2 glitches showed up within past 24 hours when the hard stuff finally seems to be working.

The Big lovers lab mods I only attempted to add in past 36 hours.

3) I will have a look there. Thank you!

I bought the game on steam this February and uninstalled and reinstalled it 2 or 3 times this week :)

I left it by the wayside back in Feb first because the control where just too different for my taste to the Fallout1 and 2 controls' was used to..

(Yes that dates me,  my only children are daughters not sons otherwise they could have trained me up, one of my early 20s daughters saw me flesh out the character with different outfits including the according to a vaultdweller's audio "stylish and comfortable " VTS outfit, This i have since deleted as it competes with other stuff. but it was a lot of fun as a stand alone,

 )

But now I learned/practiced and can play and fight relatively smoothly at least on the easy setttings.

Once I learn a game I will play it for years with expansions and mods and the like.

just click the button left of the mods name that says enabled it will change to disabled and then just deploy

skim along all the mods requirements and incompatibilities and change the load order, the mod descriptions are your biggest friend along with experimenting

this is all i can offer i last touched fallout 4 modding 4 years ago, also sorry if i repeated some things too many times i myself have fucked up too many times by not reading the mod descriptions

Hello, XDI = Extended Dialogue Interface and there's no compatibility issues with Sex Harassment.  Some older mods do require patches to work correctly with XDI, but SH is not one of them.

Some of the other information you are providing is not quite correct either.  I don't know what you mean by saying that "sometimes the vortex alters some value and screws over the LL mod, vice versa is also possible." There's no problem with installing mods from both places as long as requirements are being met.

OP, please install Buffout 4 as per the instructions in the adult guide and post your crash log here.  Also make sure you added those lines to the correct ini file.  Those instructions are also in the guide.  And be sure you are launching the game via the F4SE_Loader from Tools.

"No one around here seems to care that you are naked"

Make sure you are wearing an item in slot 33.  Usually in fallout this is considered to be the "body" slot, and many armor mods attach the body to the shoes / heels.  So if you are running around with bare feet, SH will consider you naked.  If you have regular "vanilla" clothing on, you should be considered clothed unless something else is altering the slot. Check the SH MCM for configuration if you are not wearing an item in slot 33, you can configure a different slot to tell the mod whether you should be considered naked.

If you are having further issues with AAF or the mods in the guide you can also join the AAF discord server and ask questions there.  The invite link is in the guide.

Thank you for your detailed answer.:)

I do have Buffout 4 installed.

Its only a couple of days old.

I will read the link you posted to check out the instructions and likely to a uninstalll reinstall if it appears I missed something

I will definitely check those slots.

The clothing items I put on seem to say CHR 2.

Does this mean wearing this item increases my Charisma by 2?

The dialog issues seems to have solve itself.

I found a toggle enabling captions that was disabled. Not sure if there is supposed to be an audible speech too.. but quite possibly not, and as long as I have the captions that is fine.

Based on your leads I am confident I will solve the armor issue today ( though I will need to research "Discord" and "slot 33")

Thanks everyone for all their help.

PS: My adult daughter and I came back from Yoga class yesterday and when she got out of the shower she saw one of the, uhm, interactions I am experimenting with in this game, she looked at me funny. But she is old enough not to be shocked.

besides this makes me feel young..

I modified Nora in the "Looks" mod to look more like me, or rather my younger self.

It worked out really well but I had to spend a LOT of time on it.

she looks very close to how I did in college now and I renamed her too of course.

Still sad about the dead game husband :(

A big part of the fun in this game is to rummage through the older houses and look for nice dresses and then try them on.

I have a nice blue dress now and a very nice Sequin dress that both bring out my ingame figure nicely.

I just hate to think the outfits are invisible to the computer characters in the game that is one reason the "They think you are naked" message bugs me so.

I am going to try to avoid combat as much as possible and play it on easy settings as  a social game as much as possible.

Not sure if this is possible but I will find out.

Usually when @Sgt. Marge chimes in, I take a back seat because the Sgt has more knowledge than I do.   However, there are some other things you said that made me think that you have skipped over some first steps.    Did you sort your plugins? Second, once you have Buffout4 working, you should look in your documents directory (\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\F4SE) and look for a  crash log.    Should have a name like this : crash-2022-06-14-20-05-14.

This file will help troubleshooters examine your load files, look for common errors and find out what is causing your CTDs.  In my file, I get an exception error with the d3d11 which is Direct X breaking.   However, it is not my directx that is at fault but likley Spring Cleaning because it breaks precombines.   So  the buffout4 log is more like a mechanic listening to a car to find the fault.

For reference only:

From my crash log

Unhandled exception "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" at 0x7FF83AFCE980 d3d11.dll+012E980

Lastly, I am very glad to see you give encouraging words to those who step in to help, and it is a great community here at LL.

I am taking all the input very carefully.

My sister cant believe I am actually changing things in such games.

When I started I noticed the big saucy mods all required multiple prerequisites

And those each required some too.

Some of which did not like each other.

It took me a lot of effort.

I played around with the orders too but am not all that good at it.

I got rid of the cleanup file too.

It helped the game I think from conflicts.

Even though I like a clean house and when i am at end of game I might go back and fix up sanctuary.

Right now, thanks to the help of this thread and the people in it I only have 1 single issue left.

Being able to take E) items from containers but not able to deposit R)

In the big picture it is a problem but not a big one.

I am not into making mechanical things in the workshops anyway.

I am trying to play the game like a real person and not a virtual
character .... so I dont attempt things that are too far out of my reach real life.

So when my character got a lot of injuries on certain parts of her body from a certain repeat misadventure at a quarry.

I read the descriptions of how bad it was and walked all the way back to where I knew I had a bed to recover.

And ate and drank and healed here for days trying to be as real as possible.

And I did not rush headlong and continue my quest for that village full of settlers.

Why cant they help themselves?

I will go there when I am ready and feel good again.

Also I dont always seek out combat , I often hide and cut through hills and brush to avoid it.

And I do NOT understand why the raiders even with these mods just attack and want to kill me.

I look nice and no guns not threating ready to have a real friendly flirt with those hunks and they want to kill me.

I think that is crazy in a real apocalypses men would not be wasting pretty girls in such a way.

The rough (too rough) guy in the quarry is MUCH more realistic how one could expect such a  world.

If you are ever playing as a girl think twice of going there (there are things to take though in the caboose thingies and a matress too.)

I know i lose out on experience points avoiding fighitng, but this is how I would act as a real person in that situation.

Risk averse.

It may not be "computer gamey" but i like to play as real as possible in these kind of things.

And the power armor that was broken from the big fight against deathclaw in concord I never repaired it yet even though I am going to that next place Preston sent me to.

In real World I would not even have been able to use something like that, much less repair it.

So once once it was broken its in the repair shed waiting.

also I feel like a big ugly tingirl wearing that thing and this game allows me to relive my younger days by looks and fun outfits.

Dont want to hide either under powerarmor and I keep finding neat outfits in dressers.

This visual and social experience are the main fun of the game for me.

And thank you so much to everyone who has helped in this thread ?

PS , sometimes small modifications can be a lot of fun.

Like those sexy posters and pics and ads all over.

Or the Kite VTS is hilarious, it makes it  seem like Nora's Husband and all the other men in the vault conspired to put all women under 30 into vault dweller suits modded as sex slave girl suits complete with collar.

I had to get rid of the VTS because it was incompatible with some of the later skeleton mods I needed.

but very entertaining while it lasted.

Too bad the NPCs didn't comment on those suits and their "open minded comfort"

They are small mods but add a lot of humor.

OK to troubleshoot that last issue, can you post the crashlog file or do you not have one?   The buffout4 log file will have the necessary information.

Based on what you have described, your last error is likely due to a mod to storage space, such as a missing master, or something being overwritten.

On a separate note,  your backstory/role play is pretty much along the lines of Nuka Ride, which takes a pretty naive (some might say defenseless) woman and teaches her how bad the world is in the Commonwealth.     I saw many of your mods, so I think you won't be too shocked with it.    Check it out here:

I saved it as a book mark.

but now it happend again :(  !!! argh

An just when eveying was working great.

I was getting confident in the stability of my game ( except for the  lack of R) function.

My game will again not start up at all :(

I had downloaded the family's planning files,

And the knee fixer

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/39006

and I think maybe this one too( I knew not all the DLC were there because for some reason I cannot download Automatron and the otehr one from downloadable at all. its markes as "coming soon" or some such even though I have a fresh install from last week.

https://www.loverslab.com/files/file/6827-zazout4-beta-v003/

And the dirty body mod and the dirty sex mod (adds dirt overlays to add to immersion.

I since have disabled all those mods but now my game will not start up.

I suspect the order of plug in has been ruined.

I still have the screenshot of what I was running that I posted yesterday.

Since then I also experimented around with disabling and reenabling some key packs in order to get Autosort to address the issue for me.

But to no avail.

I also reenabled a component of Vanilla erotic wasteland vanilla adult pack.

But i disabled that because it needed one of those 2 DLC for some reason I am not allowed to download (I am in US and not on a foreign country VPN )

Should I?

a) Tear it all down purge all mods (this takes long time) not just disable.. uninstall reinstall FO4 and all the mods ( this is a process that will likely keep me busy the rest of the weekend, sigh

And then there is no guarantee i wont have trouble again. And in what order should I install all those mods

b) Or try to match my load order and to include and not include all mods no matter how trivial to copy of what I have in the pics I took when I asked for help on here first.

because that was actually not so bad and this would be quicker.

c) or is there anyone I could pay a couple hundred bucks  to do option a) for me remotely.

I have a reasonably fast connection It supposed to be 500 mps but it never is, still, its not slow)

I know this is a huge risk to give remote control but I been on enthusiast forums for decades and have never been taken advantage of yet.

d) or any other more efficient suggestion anymore may have?

Where do I find the Buffout crashlog

I went in the folder and he latest entry is hours old and I tried to start up minutes ago

I went to buff out via Vortex and saved a report but there wasn't  a whole lot in there:

 Was toying with trying this

It sounds to have some entertaining and salacious content..

A couple things held me up:

- I actually dont like porn and this is a porn studio not a raider camp (which I will try to download that mod too) but i cna overlook the prn studio part.

- I read the description is sounds like some mandatory tatoos are involved and i dont like tatoos. But maybe that could be turned off?

- I am having trouble as it is running my game :).

- I think its says its deigend as a standalone mod?

I may try it and downloads FO4 Again one a separate harddrive.. (I have two) and add vortex to that HD too.. but all that is easier said than done. Half of all I know about computers I learned in the past week working on this FO4 Mods projects

Posted (edited)

I just uninstalled and reinstalled buffout since when on trying to start the game via steam (in order to download the 2 missing DLCs. Does anyone here know why the game is not allowing me to download Automatron and the other one right next to it in the menu)  .... anyway it gave me a "buffout loading out of order" message.

Then I auto sorted  plug ins again and tried to start FO4 via FO4SE again.

Any advice all the from "tear it all down" ( am not all that attached to my save files) to "hey show me your load order in vortex" and I will tell you what orders I think should be changed"

I am not all that attached to my save files since I am doing a non quest based social playthrough as if I was a real person in that situation.

I have changed plug in orders before but it was  big difficult for me.

But if i do tear it all down, I think I will use a utility code that shows Concorde having been completed because that was very tedious to get through the  deathclaw battle, even though in Concord is where I started getting more fluid with  the hotkeys so it was a good Learning experience.

I am willing to pay for remote tech support from one of the subject matter experts in this forum if that helps.

On the other hand tearing everything down and  doing it all over cannot be my solution to every problem :D

Wow, well the one nice thing about paid support is that they are there until the issue is solved.    Free support, we leave, go play RDR2, go grocery shopping, watch season 4 of The Guild and then enjoy some live planespotting on YT.

In any event, Nuka Ride is much more than a porn shop.   Yes, you do film a few scenes, but in large part is about you trying to build the studio and essentially Nuka World.   The PC can take a very submissive role and become the Overboss's bitch, or the PC can take an independent path and struggle to accomplish the same missions.    It is almost a BDSM mod, though the MCM (mod configuration menu) does allow you to dial up or dial down the level of BDSM you want.   The tattoos can even be removed in the MCM as well.   However, your PC will still have to film movies from time to time.   My final pitch on it is that it is equal in content to many DLCs.

Now, turning to the setup:

You should have LOOT (https://loot.github.io/ )  and bodyslide (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25/?tab=files )

Second, your mod list is missing some items.   If you have the DLCs, then you should have a patch for the Functional Displays.     Other than the load order being a bit off, there shouldn't be much of an issue, but I did not see Mod Configuration Menu in your load out as well.   Be sure to follow this guide as well.  (

Third, you should start with a clean game, fire it up once, then go in and start modding.  If it is your first time getting into heavy modding (which you are, based on the list provided), then you should go slow and test run FO4 after every serious mod.   A serious mod is one that changes some thing in FO4, like Start Me up.

Fourth, wrt going through concord, it is pretty easy to burn through once you figure out the advised strategy (I will disclose if you want).

Fifth, on the mods that you download, do a quick look at the "bugs" section in Nexus or the discussion section to see what issues people are having.   Sometimes issues caused by a specific mod will be solved there.

Sixth, you are missing one critical mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42052 ).    I know a lot about that mod.

Wow you actually made that!

I will be honored to download it and use it  .

Also the good news is I got everything else working again, except the sex animation ( Conevant where I been for a bit).

They are not superimportant but add to immersion and the missing animations mean random passer by start conversations with me .

I'll try to figure out if I am missing a AAF packet anywhere I have the"vanillasexanimationtheme0819", which I thought drives those animations
