chajapa Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 CK runs really well if I don't mess with it, but if I try to use the Creation Kit Fixes, I can't do anything with dialogues or it crashes. It creates a mini dump but even with WinDbg I can't tell what it's trying to tell me. So... This auto-facegen thing (whoever thought THAT was a good idea should probably be fed to a horker). If I just leave it alone and work on a follower, will it screw up their face every time? CK version is the x.x.438 (I think it's 1.6.438.... I'll have to go back and look) I really like how fast CK loads with the fixes, but that crashing thing makes it impossible to use them. Any help appreciated.
Just Don't Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 I haven't reinstalled CK since it was added to Steam. But I think you need the CK fixes and an additional update for the fixes to work (because CK fixes hasn't been updated to support the latest CK version). See if your CK works after installing both (update should overwrite some CK fixes files). No idea about facegen though. Good luck with that. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/20061 https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/71371

Auto facegen is turned off by default, if it got turned on somehow open skyrim64_test.ini in your game directory and make sure it has this line: DisableAutoFaceGen=true ; Prevent facegen data from being created on plugin save

HOWEVER... I tried again installing CK FIxes and then the CK Fixes Update (because I have the new version of CK and the original CK Fixes doesn't work with it). The update took care of the auto-facegen, but left me with another problem. Every time I tried to edit dialogue that was created before the CK Fixes was installed, CK immediately crashed. This happened in Dialogue Views. In Player Dialogue it worked fine. Any new dialogue views I created opened just fine. LOTS of testing ensued and the author of CK Fixes Update was very responsive and helpful. What I found was that after CK Fixes, the xml files generated for each dialogue view had 2 parameters missing that were IN the xml files for views created before Fixes. When CK, running Fixes, came across those parameters in the xml files, it crashed hard. The author of Fixes Update said he (or she?) would never have found that, but it is from code written in the original CK Fixes. Anyways, for now, the solution is to delete the dialogue view xml files and let CK recreate them (which it will do automatically), which means opening one of my mods to edit dialogue will first require me to reorganize the dialogue view as it piles all of the topics on top of each other until the new xml file is made. So... long story short... auto facegen no longer an issue and I'll deal with the dialogue views thing Thanks for the responses.

There is also a CK patcher to downgrade it to the last version that works with CK fixes, if you run into more problems.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I ran that patcher, still had issues with CK Fixes, and when I tried to UNdo what the patcher had done (following the directions), it failed and I ended up having to completely remove and reinstall CK. Right now, using MO2, I have a Skyrim LE installation AND a Skyrim SE installation and can use CK for either one without the usual CK random stupidness. It actually runs pretty darn well, so I'm reluctant to mess with it too much. Having the auto-facegen thing taken care of means I can edit some of my followers if I want without worrying it'll mess them up. The Dialogue Views problem at least has an easy solution although it does mean I have to go into each dialogue view and rebuild the layout. Not the end of the world, just inconvenient.
