Dude500X
Are you interested in walkthroughs? Witty commentary? Gameplay? The games themselves? Anyway, I really want to spread my passion for gaming and I want to make a lets play video series. I plan on recording mostly retro games or games I really love and am able to record, I think alot of people love passion and I can bring passion out when I play games I love. Link to comment

Kamen Rider Kuuga
DON'T FUCKING SAVE STATE if it's an older game. And if you have to, atleast edit that shit out so I don't see you loading state all the goddamned time. Somebody that I watch who does LPs recently started doing that for some games and it just drives me up the fucking wall. DON'T FUCKING READ THE TEXT if it's not voiced. I can read just fine, thanks, DON'T FUCKING DO FUNNY VOICES OR RANDOM HUMOR, because I swear to the gods I will hunt you down for crimes against my brain. DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT TECHNICAL PROBLEMS IN VIDEOS because I don't need to, nor do I care, knowing what happened behind the scenes. LEARN TO FUCKING EDIT because I do not like sitting through entire videos of you dying over and over in some game and by the end you make exactly zero progress. FUCKING EDIT because I don't need to sit through you paused while talking on the phone. Watch some Retsupurae and learn what not to do as well. Link to comment

Ghost
Hmm I see, different opinions In my case: - I really like it, when the Let's Player talks to the people who are watching him. - I also like it when he is talking some funny things about himself or about the game. - Mostly I look games, that I want to look, but sometimes Im looking any games. In 90% of the case it doesn't matter which game it is. ( It is up to the Let's Player, if he is bad or not) - Ahh and in my case it should be a "Let's Play" and not a Walkthrough or other shit. - If you know Gronkh or Sarazar, then you know what I mean with "talking about funny things. - Also I must feal it, that the Let's Player has fun on that game, and that he really want to show it other people how he's playing. (Because a bad game can be a good Let's Play, if the Let's Player is good on it.) This are my 10cent to this. Link to comment

Also on a related note ; why do people watch LP videos ? I just get bored in the first minute ,why not just play the game yourself ? Link to comment
Kamen Rider Kuuga
Because sometimes you just don't want to play Sandopolis Zone. Or lack the console and game, Or it's one of those games that requires multiple people. Link to comment
Astaroth-Lite
Also on a related note ; why do people watch LP videos ? I just get bored in the first minute ,why not just play the game yourself ? Often times if I get involved in watching an LP, it's of a game I wouldn't want to play. Like The You Testament or something. They can be entertaining to watch, but I sure as hell don't want to play them myself. Link to comment
Kamen Rider Kuuga
Sometimes it's just the people who make the LP worth watching, like any Metal Gear game done by General Ironicus and Chip Cheezum. Link to comment
Guest Iron Chitlin
lol but I love Pewdiepie I'm recording Lets Play! for Civilization 5 Brave New World at the moment, I'll toss up a link once it's on YouTube. I don't want to discourage you or anything, but there is absolutely no reason to do a Let's Play of Civilization in video format. Some games may be fun to play, but if you are doing an LP you have to ask yourself: Is this going to be entertaining to watch? Since you are talking about a turn based strategy game played entirely by looking at a map, that answer is going to be "no". If you want to play Brave New World, then by all means do so, but if you are going to take the time to record the game and commentary, edit the video, encode and upload to Youtube, at least try to make the end result something that people will want to watch. Also something else to keep in mind. Let's Plays are not about you, you are doing this to show off a cool game people might not have played, or to show a new and interesting way to play a familiar one. Don't do it in the hopes of becoming internet famous, this is a fun hobby not a smart career move. Link to comment
Rtom
The only LPs I watch are without commentary...whatever those are called. Walkthroughs I guess, lol. Unless its a group of people just having fun and messing around like Video Games Awesome. Link to comment
Nikiea
Reminds me of some Monster hunter LPs I've watched. The guys were always cursing everytime they got hit, their reactions were really hilarious xD. Link to comment
Strelky
One type of Let's play I've never seen but would to see or maybe even make. Is one where you you have a silent character in a dark atmosphered game. Instead of commentary, you make a journal for the character. As if you are the char. My links aren't working again but I did find an example, if your interested, search "Wasteland survival guide" into YouTube Link to comment

How about NOT copying PewDiePie? If you're going to do this at least get through the game you're planning to LP once. If not, make sure it's noted you're doing a blind run then do your own thing. Be civil, and if you swear a lot like me, have post-commentary instead. Essentially: -Know the mechanics of the game you're playing. -know a few tidbits, lore, secrets in-game. -Don't be obnoxious when it's not needed. -if you post-commentary (comments added later via editing), then have an idea of what to say. -Try not to use save states but edit out deaths instead. The list is a little longer but that should help you out. Link to comment
