Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 DISCLAIMER: Subject to changes in the future. Considering the new expansion park has come out I have decided to redo this review as there have been major changes in some areas. Combat All combat is done in instances which only party members can enter. PVP in this game is done in arenas, all combat types give exp and rewards which can be used to learn new skills and upgrade your character. During combat and mission your class may allow you to get an advantage on the battlefield or during a mission, such as hiding explosives in a snow pile. You can see how combat is done in the video below called Star Trek Online Gameplay - Mission "Skirmish" Space Combat During space combat the player takes control of their ship and make carry out tasks to progress the mission, these tasks can be from scanning planets to destroying enemy structures and ships. During space combat your bridge officers can use their space combat skills to turn the battle in your favour, heal your ship or even boost it's offensive and defensive capacities. Ground Combat Ground combat allows your bridge officers to company you down to a planet, space station or in some cases a enemy ship. During ground combat your character and bridge officers can make use of ground combat skills such as grenades, portable forcefields, portable turrets to orbital strikes. - Shooter mode: Shooter mode converters the game controls from RPG to FPS during ground combat. This allows you to change targets quickly as well as provide a 33% damage increase when using it. Dialogue All dialogue is contain within pop-up boxes which sometimes will contain options which in most cases influence how a mission unfolds either result in success or failure. Some briefing include voice over's from Star Trek cast members such as Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and Denise Crosby (Natasha Yar) Story The storyline is the same regardless of what race you play within a faction, but it is different for the faction you play. The factions are the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Defence force and the Romulun Republic. The player will have the choice to chose one of the following classes for their race. Tactical Officer [DPS] - Deals massive amount of damage on the battlefield. Tactical officer are skilled in making area of effect attacks more stronger as well as making each single attack from weapons have a better chance of doing critical damage. Engineering Officer [Tanking] - Skilled in defence and making it harder for the enemy to claim victory. The engineering officer is able to buff teammates with survivability debuffs which can reduce enemy damage both in the ground and in space. Science Officer[buff] - A officer skilled in ground healing as well as removing bad effects on other players. These officers when in the right ships can be unstoppable on the battlefield both in firepower and survivability. They are harder to master then the other two choices. Depending on your class some missions will have optional objectives which can be done to make your mission easier, provide with an advantage, give you more experince, more rewards or an achievement. Leveling and Ranking As you play the game and complete mission you will gain grades, grades are split into 10 levels and upon reaching the 10th level you will receive a new rank. After gaining a new rank you can get a new ship for your level from the shipyard for free after talking to your factions leader. As you level you will automatically learn some new skills such as Tactical Fleet for tactical officers which gives a temporary boost to stats in space combat and Support Drone in ground combat for engineering officers. Ranks List: Rank names vary depending on faction but levels are the same. Rank 0: Ensign (Level 0) Rank 1: Lieutenant (Level 1 - 9) Rank 2: Lieutenant Commander (Level 10 - 19) Rank 3: Commander (Level 20 - 29) Rank 4: Captain (Level 30 - 39) Rank 5: Rear Admiral, Lower Half (Level 40 - 44) Rank 6: Rear Admiral, Upper Half (Level 45 - 49) Rank 7: Vice Admiral (Level 50) Duty Officers Duty officers are crew members which can perform missions for you. Unlike bridge officers these crew members do not help out in space or ground combat. Instead these officers are send on mission which can provide you with credits, armor, weapons, dilithium and consumables such as health kits and other useful items. Duty officers can be sold and traded to allow you to make the crew which you want. Duty Officer missions will progress even when offline or on another character. MISC - Several different types of weapon, consoles, armors and shields to choice from, customize your ship and officers so they tank, do massive amounts of damage or find a balance between the two. - Storylines with over 40 missions to complete within each storyline. - Free to play with Item mail and payment options, none of this is need to get to the big leagues. - Face off against the Borg in Special Task Force missions. These are the ultimate test of your ship power and defensive abilities. - Tour your ship and interact with the crew in order to find hidden mission and areas. - Choice your ship name and it appear on your ship. - Has daily events and events throughout the year. - Be either a Federation, Klingon or Romulan from level 1 without having to unlock that race. Each faction contains several race to choice from. - Mine and collect Dilithium which is used to purchase some ships and items. - Each mission can be adjusted to one of 3 difficulty levels: Normal, Advanced and Elite. The harder the mission the better the rewards, however the harder the mission the stronger the enemies are and some debuffs can be permanent until removed your a in-game item such as "Major Components" which is used for fixing broken system on a ship. Foundry The foundry is a powerful tool which can be accessed from the game launcher. Foundry is a developer tool much like the Creation Kit or GECK, from this tool players can create their own missions with objectives, enemies and storylines and share them with the community. Completing foundry missions will give players rewards has as weapons, armor, experience and dilithium. The ones which are liked by the developers get tweaked and placed within the game! Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Did you play this ? And thanks for that information. Hmm have to update this game, i think. So you missed the bit in the OP saying "Me doing a mission, the mission starts as space combat and then progresses to ground" Been playing this game since like 2 months after it's release date and currently still am.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Sorry, I skip mostly all videos. So i didn't saw that.... I'm playing it since a half year or a year ? Don't know it because I did many breaks through it.
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 I stopped playing as I was busy but now I'm back and trying to get others *cough* Mailamea *cough* trying to play it.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I have the max lvl there, but it says nothing, because I still need to do more than enough mainquest.... As much as I know, I'm at the Borgquests, but they are really hard.
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Finished all them on all of my 4 max level characters, they can only be done in a team. Started two more new ones this week.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Ahh, you have the Advantages of the old P2P Game ? I have just one character, but not complete. And I don't find anyone, who will do some quests with me. I was in two guilds but there were only 3-5 people online from 100 or so. And no one of them wanted to do that. :/ Edit: I'm still updating this Game... then I can look where I am.
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Well it most likely helped I spent 10 million on completely refitting my ship to handle pretty much anything which gets sent against it. The ship I use for Borg stuff is the same ship in that skirmish video. Same name, same fitting and same bridge officers.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I don't know which quest it was, but there is one, and it's a pretty hard quest. Solo impossible, because the enemy ship will destroy me in a few seconds. But I have to come in again in this game to play it as good as before. Did you have something against it, if I add you ? Because I think, that you have more idea than me.
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 You can add me if you want. The thing is with the Borg if your ship is not up to spec equipment wise you won't survive even if you are in a team.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You can add me if you want. The thing is with the Borg if your ship is not up to spec equipment wise you won't survive even if you are in a team. Or solo with more than enough luck I think
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Normal Borg mission, yes if you are careful. STF mission, no chance. I'm logged in now at the moment looking at stuff. My ship needs upgraded torps.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 O.O Old options... 1024*1200.... Ahh I don't want to ask but STF-mission ? Edit: Wow nice changes in the menu. Really good
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 STF is Special Task Force. Currently on Earth Space Dock.
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Well if you know where the bank is on the shipyard I am standing in there. Look for the dude in white with the rifle on his back.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Okey godverdomme.... I have the odyssey star cruiser for the wrong class.... "facewall".....
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Well that would have a advantage as you can hit subsystems.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Oh.... technology not science, but I still don't need it. And I have a second char-technology, but I think I can't use the odyssey with that char. First thing, because of no Accountbank and second, I allready activated this box.... Hmm i saw a guy in white, but it's not you.
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Oh I moved to get something, on my way back there now. If its the engineering one that's the best one to have.
Ghost Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 But not for tactic or ? 4 engineering consoles 3 science consoles 2 tactic consoles...
Ark of Truth Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Even for a tactical officer has it will have a lot high defence and when it comes to the Borg you need defence more then offence. Sitting in bank again by the way. What instance you in in the top right. Earth Spacedock number?
