Need some help merging (cum) textures with gimp

I am trying to merge certain textures using gimp. What im doing is 'open as layers' and mix 2 textures into one with one some repositioning. However how do i actually save this? If i choose 'export to xximportedfilexx' only 1 layer gets saved. So not both.

If i open the new saved dds file.

If i choose 'export as' and overwrite something, again it does not save both layers as one image.

Im also getting options like:

Compression.. bc1 to 5, rxgb ect

Format.. default, rgbs, ab ect

Save.. select layer, as volume map, ect

Minimaps.. no or generate

Anyone knows how to do this?

Edit: i found i also needed to merge the layers aswell (left bottom collom)

But my file is now the size of 200mb wich is ridiculous high. How can i reduce this? Probably need to export as and choose a different compression. If anyone knows please let me know

idk. I use Paint dot Net and the only time I get excessively large image file sizes is when I overscale photos while working on them to perform detailed image enhancements and forget to downsize back to a reasonable size for my target. And tbh, when it comes to 200M files, that's usually only Astronomy photos. (ex: my present female player's body dds is 4kx4k and weighs in at 8M.

Perhaps gimp is miscalculating or misreporting the expected size of the actual saved file?

Only thing I choose in that little pop up that comes up after you finished setting the name is: format -> bc5. Minimaps-> yes (generate).

Yeah you need to merge layers into a single image before saving it. The resolution should be in the 2K-4K range, which would generate a 5MB-20MB dds texture. I don't know how you could possibly get to 200MB, are you using 16K textures or something stupid like that? As for the format, the best choice for SE is BC7, this gets you the best compression and visual quality. Mipmaps allow the texture to be rendered faster, at the cost of increased image size. Whether you want that is up to you.

Thanks i will try it out. Btw im using the texture replacers that is on this mod page if you scroll down a bit https://www.loverslab.com/topic/163904-slacs-plus-sexlab-advanced-cum-stages/

It is 10gb in size when extracted. So if i merge 2 files that are 60mb in size, it will end up as almost 200mb.

Edit: apparently its something to do with gimp why it shows like 200+mb. But after exporting it shows up as a 21mb file in windows :)

So you can change the resolution of the texture in GIMP by selecting Image > Scale Image from the bar at the top. There should be a box at the top with the width and height of the image. There's no need for it to be larger than 4096 x 4096, and you might want it to be 2048 or even 1024 if you don't have much VRAM. That should cut down on the size quite a bit.

I don't know what it is, but everytime i make an edit, for example, when i erased a certain spot and then overwrite the same file, the file gets bigger. The original downloaded file is 21mb. But once i make an edit and overwrite, the file size changed to 64mb even when i erased a texture spot. Idk, i think if its less than 100mb it shouldn't be a problem with gtx1060.

Yes. It's the size of the project file ?. I noticed it myself earlier.
