[Elsie LaVache] NPCs won't talk when i press E on them the first time

I want to try the mod "Elsie LaVache" but something that bugs me tremendously happens with this mod, when i first start talking, all the NPCs wont say their first sentence; I mean the sentence they might say before selecting any dialog options at all, the sentence they say just when you press E on them.

Guards won't say anything, neither followers, shopkeepers etc: there is no audio, no subtitles and they don't move their mouth, they just stare at me. Any other vanilla dialogue option works just fine: there is the voiceover, mouth and subtitles.

I tried looking into the mod's .esp but it doesn't even override any entry of dialog topic or dialog branch of skyrim.esm

I also have the mod "Fuz ro doh" that should take care of any unvoiced dialogue of any mod but again, the problem is with the initial vanilla quotes with voiceovers, so i'm kinda lost. The problem was there also without fuz or doh.

It only happens because of this mod, by disabling it game works fine.

Any ideas?

You could try asking in the support thread for the mod.

i did  almost 20 days ago, no answer from the creator since march 2

You think he will be here in tech support?

no. i think someone else than him might have a clue since he doesn't answer, since looking for a solution from the creator seems unfruitful.

If you are encouraging me to stalk him and bombard him with pm thats exactly what i will do after 1 month of no answer probably

I've been using the Elsie mod for so long that I thought this was vanilla skyrim behavior.

I'm not sure how to fix this issue.

I had used these mods years ago.

I just downloaded and installed Elsie, MME, Ion and JUGS. I seem to be having the same issue as you with the dialogue not starting after pressing E. If I hit Esc and exit the dialogue choices and hit E again, I can make a dialogue choice and it will start. Do you have JUGS installed also?

No, just elsie and MME; but it's only ELsie that causes it, game with MME only is fine

So with Elsie installed on a new game, it seems that I get the npc greetings just fine with I interact with them. (They also greet me when I get close to them.)

But when I reload the save and it says "elsie is waking up" that's when all the npcs lose the greeting function.

I'm looking through topics like this to gain some insight on restoring the greeting function to npcs. Hopefully I can find out how it works and patch the elsie mod.

Well when I go into xedit and delete the entire "dialogue topic" tab, NPCs are suddenly able to greet me again so I'm guessing that there's a specific line of dialogue that's making everyone silent.

I'll try deleting random dialogue until I get results.

The 3.2 version of the mod doesn't have this issue, so maybe its somewhere in the new content that was added, either mavens melons or the "training" quest?

Okay, I think I've solved it.

Opening x edit and going to the dialogue topic tab, there's a blank entry at

xx0944bc   ELV_MQ_C2P_1

Its the 9th entry on that drop down list. I deleted that entry, then lowered the TIFC info count from 9 to 8.

Ah maybe a video would be better, hang on

I'm not sure if it will break any quests at any point but for now it seems the dialogue is back and I was also able to turns Elsie into a milkmaid and begin the Mavens melons quest, so I want to believe everything is fine.

Ah, finally i think i wil return to Elsie again

And yes, damn, that was most obviously the problem, a HELLO topic without any condition at all, that means it would apply to every single NPC of the game, and since it doesn't contain anything they just shutup

I confirm now they all talk and deleting that should not cause any problems.

Thank you for keeping up the problem in years lol, back then I didn't even know what a HELLO topic is
