Commanderx Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Since most of the google results were useless or outdated, I figured I might as well ask here. Recently I had a new computer built for me as a personal favor. However, the system runs on Windows 7, and any attempt to run New Vegas will crash upon trying to start a new game, specifically the loading screen after the opening video. I've tried running in compatibility mode for XP SP3 but that did nothing. Most results suggest the .dll fix, but that not only did nothing, but from what I understand a recent patch made it unnecessary.
matisaac Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Hi, well I can tell you its not windows 7, as i too recently got a new rig and the win 7 os to go with it and new vegas runs perfectly, ensureing you got the latest video card drivers and direct X is as much help as i can be ^.^
Commanderx Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 I updated my drivers, updated New Vegas, and ran it with no mods activated. Once I'm back on my home computer I'll post the specs.
Commanderx Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Here's my DxDiag, if someone knows what to look for maybe they can find out what I'm doing wrong.
Halstrom Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 No problems running NV with Win7 on my cheap laptop though it does have a 420 Nvidia card in it I think. It is a bit slower than my PC tower though Your 8400 Graphic card seems a little dated and maybe weak, I thought you could only get 9000 & 4300/400/500 series now.
Commanderx Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 The graphics card was from my prior computer, which could run New Vegas on 2 gb of Ram and Windows XP, before it suffered a motherboard and hard drive failure.
Commanderx Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 I tried running without mods, and no it didn't change anything.
gregathit Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Ok, go to document\mygames\falloutNV\ and delete the fallout.ini file. Then try to run FNV again (FNV will regenerate the file).
Tregarin Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I would suggest getting DX9 installed, as FNV requires it. (and Win7 doesn't come with it)
Commanderx Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Alright, so I did a reinstall and that seemed to run fine. However, once I set up Mod Manager, NVSE, and the mods, the troubles returned. I've tried disabling all of those yet the problem persists. Also, DX9 is already up to date
hinugundam Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Alright' date=' so I did a reinstall and that seemed to run fine. Commanderx Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 If I understood your directions correctly, I set the folder in My Games to not be read-only and ran the exe with Administrator, but that didn't help it. EDIT: I've noticed that every time I try to make the fallout.ini writable, it keeps changing back to read-only shortly afterwards.
gregathit Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Commanderx, where did you install FNV to? If you installed it to the programs file the UAC is what is kicking your butt. Never install any games in the programs file that you want to mod.
Commanderx Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 No I installed it in a c:/games folder I created
Commanderx Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 Well after much checking, it seems that it was the bouncing breasts skeleton I had installed for Sexout. After replacing it with the alternative one it seemed to work fine.
