Hentaiface Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Tried to play Sims 4 yesterday after not playing for a while. First it was the usual procedure, booting up, enabling mods and script mods, restarting and then it just... didn't. With mods activated, whenever I try to boot up the game, it just brings me back to the Origin main screen after a few seconds. I've tried plenty of things to fix it, like removing Wicked Whims, removing it alongside other script-heavy mods such as Basemental Drugs, copying and removing the most recent batch of mods, copying and moving all mods entirely, re-installing the game and, lastly, after looking up the problem online, clean the Origin cache. None of it worked, but it told me that it is definetely mod-related, as it works fine without any mods in the folder. Or, just with wicked whims installed, for that matter. Thing is also, I don't remember downloading any mods since I've last played it, so maybe it got broken by an update? Wouldn't be the first time. I could of course just try and remove the mods one by one, but given the size of my mod folder, I would prefer to treat this option as a last resort. What I have also noticed is that the game doesn't boot up with Reshade anymore. Maybe that is related to it?

When you have tons of Mods and update your game after a long time not playing you can count on having more Mods broken than usual. Easiest to use the 50/50 Mod removal method to find out which half has the broken ones and it might take more time finding them if you have many broken Mods. So removing/adding large groups or folders might also be needed to narrow them down further. But you also know the major script Mods like WW, MCCC, Basemental, Nisa's WP, etc., will all need to be updated anyway so you should update those first.

I had 17K mods and it was doing that to me. It took me 8 days to fix my mods folder to get it to work again. Good luck hope you have more luck than me. Also try fixing files with sims4studio. It has an option to fix mods broken by updates.

That sounds somewhat viable and not as tedious as just going through all of them individually. I will try that, thanks! 3 hours ago, Scorpio said: But you also know the major script Mods like WW, MCCC, Basemental, Nisa's WP, etc., will all need to be updated anyway so you should update those first. I think I already did. The in-game mod list also shows up when they're deactivated, right? Maybe I could read out of that just how many script mods I'm using.
Hentaiface Posted March 23, 2022 Author Posted March 23, 2022 Update: The 50/50 method worked just fine. Making a Matryoshka doll of the extracted mod files, splitting them over and over again and checking if the game was running with the most recent half installed took me about half an hour and led me to the "culprit", which is - luckily and weirdly - a series of package files that I do not recognize. I assume I got them as part of an uploaded Household or something like that. Whats even more odd is that it seems to merely be CC, it mentions closets, cabins, paintings, rocks and some deco in the file names. Anyway, both of you helped me a lot, got it fixed much faster than I thought! Thanks a lot! @Scorpio @BDSMGurl
