Replacing a household via mod

Not sure this quite fit into technical support but here we go...

(id post this on the official sims forums but they have this lame rule that requires you to post no less than 50 times in order to start a topic ?)

i want to make a few changes to a household made by EA and while you can certainly do that by editing the household directly (as far as im aware ->) you would have to do that every time you started a new game or somthing along those lines.

i would assume there should be someway to duplicate the household (probably through CAS -> save to library) then retreive the file and (make a backup of before) overwrite the original?

Sure.  Get the household edited the way you want it, and save to library.  In future new saves, you can then start editing that household, but instead of changing them all again, you can click Add New Household Member- bottom left next to the thumbnails- and choose the cloud icon to add from the gallery/library.  Switch to the My Library tab, remember to check the Show Custom Content box, find the saved version of the household and choose it.  Then choose Replace when it asks.

And there's another way, especially useful if you want to customize a lot of NPC households.  Get all the households set just they way you want at the beginning of a new save.  Now Save As, and give it a name that you'll remember easily.  And in the future, when you start a new save, instead of choosing New Game, choose Load Game, and bring up that saved startup.  Use Save As and another new name, go back to the main menu, and load that newly renamed game.

And you can't start a topic to make a post, and you're not supposed to spam posts. They want you actively reading and making comments here and there. And unlike Lover's Lab where there's plenty to get involved in, there's not much to say there unless you know how to help people. It's to force people to be on the Sims forums, because otherwise no one would.

I made a simple tool where you can take a premade household from a save game file and export it as a household template resource, you put the resource in your mods folder and next time you start a new game the premade household will look exactly like the save game it was extracted from.

@Denton47 's Household makeover tool is epic! You can Change the Goths into a vampire family, or make Alex Goth a girl, etc. The one thing you can't do is change the name. Even Sims 4 Studio can't edit the household file, tho it can read it. That means she knows the format of the file and just didn't make an editor for it.

And you can make each household a package, and swap them in and out of your mod folder as you want!

Don't forget to change the voices! I always forget to change the voices.
