endomiel Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 Heyhey, I want to start playing Skyrim again and I got a bunch of questions. Two years ago, my typical Skyrim adventure ended after a day of mod installation, two hours of crashes and then nothing. I’ve read through the sticky about preparing your game for modding and I’m going to follow the general advice. I’ve decided on LE, since some mods which are important to me don’t work on SE. However, I would like to have it look pretty. I’d choose stability & smoothness over beauty, but I think my PC is powerful enough to run some decent graphic mods. (See my DXdiag below, please.) I prefer realism and easy-of-use and installation over hyper-stylised graphics. It’s very hard to judge ENBs by screenshots alone. My experience in the past has been “Hhmm, now everything looks the same, but just darker…” Regarding textures: should I download the High Res Texture pack and the Unofficial Texture Patch, or skip it and install a 2k or 4k texture pack? Any specific suggestions? I’ve read repeatedly that you should also take care of install order, not only load order. What is the recommended install order? For example: how early should I install Sexlab & Sexlab Defeat in a setup? Regarding Sexlab, I think I’ll stick with Sexlab, Defeat, Working Girl and Sexlab Solutions. I’m not into Devious Devices. Any other cool mods which you can think of? Regarding pers/levelling systems: my go-to is SPERG. Ordinator doesn’t hold anything of intrest to me, while Perkus Maximus seems to pay attention to Spell/Weapon combat, but I’m afraid that that mod won’t pick up on all the weapons & armours I would install via mods, making it pretty mood. Do you have any suggestions here, please? Are there mods which facilitate Warrior Mage Combat? I’ve found some, but they’re all for SE. As mentioned earlier, I’m going for LE. Bodyslide & Outfit Studio: I’m using the UNP body, since some clothing mods only have UNP. Can I still change other outfits via Bodyslide to fit UNP? Several mods only add armours as Light Armour. How would I use the Creation Kit so that this mod also offers the armour as Heavy and as Clothing? I managed to do this in the past, but that’s long ago. Finally: Live Another Life. I know the basic mod moved to AFKMods. Are there any expansions on it? Really, finally: thanks for reading so far. ?

What is the recommended install order? For example: how early should I install Sexlab & Sexlab Defeat in a setup? Load order = Plugin sorting = Two plugins change the same thing, the lower one wins => exception for this rule are patches for loot/level/spawn lists you can combine with a Bashed Patch or Smashed Patch or Tes5edit merged patch. (another exception would be to create selective patches that allow parts of both conflicting plugins to win rather than one wins all conflicts by LO position) Simple example: Plugin activated in LO => needs a compatibility patch with another plugin => move patch plugin below the mod that needs to be patched in LO so the original plugin can be overruled. Overwrites = if you install two mods that include files with the same name (but different content) you need to decide who should win by overwriting the mod in question. Simple example: Mod installed => new patch available => patch needs to overwrite the already installed mod files to replace them with new ones. How you do that depends on the Mod Manager you choose to use, but the effect is the same, replacement of files with the same name (or overruling BSA with loose files). If mods don't conflict with files, it doesn't matter in which order you install, just keep the overview what you are doing (easier said than done ^^) for you sexlab/defeat example: they don't have conflicting files, so it doesn't matter. Still you need Sexlab first to run SL Defeat ingame lol My tactic is to install as many requirements shared by multiple mods first so I don't forget them as soon as the setup gets confusing. To decide what mods need to be overwritten I check the mod descriptions or follow logic or (mostly) my guts feeling and what I want to see later in game (replacer).

If you want to convert outfits from other body types like CBBE to UUNP you might want to look here:

What is the recommended install order? Have you thought about mod managers like MO2 or Vortex? There are people that advocate for both for different reasons. I've used MO and MO2 now for years without the issues others have had. MO makes load order easier to manage and install order moot, as you can move mods at will and change your order on the fly. 2 hours ago, endomiel said: Regarding Sexlab, I think I’ll stick with Sexlab, Defeat, Working Girl and Sexlab Solutions. Might look at Eager NPCs, SL Tools, and if a female PC Confabulation, Simple Sexing. 2 hours ago, endomiel said: Regarding pers/levelling systems: my go-to is SPERG. If Ordinator is too much, you might try Vokrii, which I think has perks in the enchanting tree for staff/weapon dual wielding. There are other mods, the names of which I forget, on the Nexus that let you cast spells with your weapon (after charging a spell or selecting in some way). The mod Witchhunter gives you a spells that act as lesser powers, letting you cast them and power up an unenchanted weapon for 30 seconds or so. Another mod that does something similar is Smites and Strikes, though it uses spells cast in the off hand to buff the weapon... depending on what you had in mind for "Warrior Mage". 2 hours ago, endomiel said: How would I use the Creation Kit so that this mod also offers the armour as Heavy and as Clothing? I managed to do this in the past, but that’s long ago. I think you'd need to open the mod in the CK, find the item, duplicate it, change the armor type on the new item, repeat that for the third armor type, then copy the constructable recipe, tempering recipe if you want, and point those to the new item, repeating for the third if you want. Something like that could be done in Tes5Edit as well, and might be easier. Similar steps, though fewer windows to open and close but probably more ID copy/pasting. There is a mod that lets you toggle stuff like that in game, saving the changes in a JSON file and reloading them when you load a save (either of the same character or a new one). It doesn't give you three copies of the same item for use on your PC, follower and another NPC... I think. It does let you clone your PC and use yourself as a follower though. Project Proteus 2 hours ago, endomiel said: Finally: Live Another Life. I know the basic mod moved to AFKMods. Are there any expansions on it? Defeat Alternative gives you more starting locations even if you don't use the other parts. There area few more mods here on LL that I'm not as familiar with (I had been using Unbound instead) and a newer mod that does mostly the same thing as LAL is called Alternate Perspective.
endomiel Posted March 6, 2022 Author Posted March 6, 2022 Thanks! I'm definitely using MO2. I've checked Ordinator again, and I'm going to give that a go. It seems to be closest to what I want. As for Sexlab stuff: I'm looking mostly for mods which facilitate bondage/defeat/non consensual/using sex as a means to make money or get your way/people being abusive of the dragonborn. Could anyone share their thoughts on the graphics/ENB question, please?
