NBIemand Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Hi! So lets say I have a model that I want to use as a body replacer for skyrim. It is fitted in the same T-pose as the vanilla body, is properly UV'd, but does not have anything else yet. How would I go about making a working .nif to load into Skyrim? What would I do at this point? My guess would be skinwrap, BSDismemberThing, then export to nifskope and copy the necessary things from the vanilla nif file. After that it should just be a matter of placing the nif file in my data folder. However I don't know what to copy in nifskope, don't know how to properly setup the BSDIsmemberThing for a body mesh, and will probably fall for any tricky parts that might be present in the whole process. I am using 3Ds max, and I do have the niftools plugin installed. What I don't have is a tutorial on how to make a custom body. I've been searching high and low, but I only ever find info about making armor, or weapons. I can imagine it being a very similar process, but I don't want to start doing things that may very well be completely wrong. Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who might help, you're amazing! Cheers, NBIemand
Mickster Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 It actually is very similar to how you make an armor. After you have the entire thing rigged to the skyrim skeleton export it as a nif then open it up in nif scope and see if there are any major differences in nifscope (you'll probably have to change the shader type to skin if it's anything like how it used to work in Oblivion and Fallout and take a look at how the slot value is set up).
NBIemand Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Hmm okay, thanks! I think I might just try something out soon then, see if I can get it to work. I do believe I might have some trouble finding out what to copy from the nif and what not, and I might need to re-watch some of nightasy's tutorials about armors to find out how to get the BSDismemberThing to work correctly again. More info is always appreciated!
Monsto Brukes Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 it's not directly relevant to body mesh, but it might help you to start here: http://www.creationkit.com/Convert_New_Nif_from_3dsMax_to_Skyrim You might also look at the posts/topics from CherryHotaling and Caliente. Most of it is old (>1 yr) but still greatly relevant. [edit] oh . . . and a lot of us are always interested in some variety. Care to sneak in a couple modelling screens?
