Daedric_Cat Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 I'm looking for a tutorial to port Skyrim or Oblivion hairs to Morrowind.
LongDukDong Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I don't believe you will find one. Please understand that the number of vertices in a Skyrim hair model may exceed the number of vertices in an actual 'better bodies' mesh. And Oblivion may be not much better. We're talking a scale-down that would require actual removal through blender, or your preferred 3d model editor.
ElectroOracle Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Look, I never modded Morrowind but I think this tutorial may be very useful to you, because for the little I've seen of it, it's a paste-.obj-through-nifskope job, so even if the meshes aren't from Skyrim, you can get the necessary steps. About high poly meshes, Oblivion doesn't have much of a problem with that, the problem in Oblivion is large texture resolution, I don't know about Morrowind though.

Ren hairs have been ported to Morrowind, and some hairs, like those by Mandamus for Morrowind, have a very high poly count. https://mw.modhistory.com/download-56-11334 The blonde hair on the right side of the second picture especially so. I have to admit it's surprising that the game can handle that mesh and the textures to that hair. But I think it is a the matter of the textures not being too large. There is one hair made by Korana for the faerie queen in her Tylwyth mod has an insane poly count higher than skyrim/ fallout 4 hairs. Of course Morrowind has been somewhat updated (for such an old game) that it can run higher poly meshes on today's machines. I think I've found some good tutorials, or at least some direction. Thank you for your response and information. 1 hour ago, ElectroOracle said: Look, I never modded Morrowind but I think this tutorial may be very useful to you, because for the little I've seen of it, it's a paste-.obj-through-nifskope job, so even if the meshes aren't from Skyrim, you can get the necessary steps. That looks like it has a lot of info, thank you. It would be cool to port some of the SIMs hairs out there. It all seems to work from ,obj files. Yeah, Morrowind does handle high poly meshes, 1K textures work well. 2K is pushing it and often not needed for hairs.
LongDukDong Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 You have it in reverse. Ren's hairs and Korana's have been around for Morrowind since at least 2004. *I burned a CD with 'em and LOTS more* Ren's JENOVA's Children mod being one, or Korana's luschious Playable Dawn or Lady Death mods being a small smattering of two. Granted, someone posted Korana's mods all in one site in 2009? This showing that her collection has been around some time. Thankfully, the link provided has an active download. But note it's mirror site (PlanetElderScrolls) died roughly 10 years ago. Insofar as textures, BetterBodies textures were 512x512 while HGEC/Exnem textures are typically 2048x2048 (4x in size)... their appearance making me think they are similarly modeled.
