Fallout New Vegas won't load for me anymore. I'm hoping a complete uninstall and reinstall will fix it but who knows. I get an Ox05 error which is pretty bad news and appears to be one lots of people get. No fixes on various forums have worked so I may be unable to play the game anymore.

I recommend using something like Revo to make sure absolutely everything is uninstalled, and don't forget to nuke the folder Fallout makes in your documents folder as well. After you uninstall it, clean and defrag, and after you reinstall it, verify cache through Steam. I'm sure you know all this, just sayin'. :P

Best of luck. Also, hello.

How did you Uninstall it ?? There are several ways. one is open steam right click on new vegas and delete Local content.

second one is

open configuration screen-> programs -> right Click on fallout new vagas and use remove.

The go to where fallout newvags is installed remove any left overs.

Also tab on myDocuments-> MyGames => FalloutNV an remove any ini's

this will make sure when you decide to reinstall previous one would not interefere if there where problems with it.

Last thing if all of the above fails, either go to steam

Thanks for the pointers. The game had been working fine but after I tried to put in the primary needs hud and/or the skeleton for BBB it broke. I couldn't load any save games or start a new game without a crash. Uninstalling the mod did nothing. The error from event viewer was OxC000005 (I'm off on the number of zeroes) which is an issue I've seen others have and could be a memory address violation.

I know my ram and vid card memory are fine from A) testing and B) no other programs are crashing like this.

We'll see if the reinstall fixes it!

Edit: Good news. I have managed to get it working again with the base game, no mods at all. Now to go through the painful process of including mods!

Well it is definitely something in a mod. Loading without mods makes everything go smoothly. The second I try to put mods in it all comes crashing down again. Sooo...I have to be patient and reinstall all of my mods one at a time.

This will take a while. I think I'll take a break and play some Star Wars the Old Republic beta. Bleh.

Did you try to use fomm archiveinvalidation ?? if you play with mods and they add more meshes and textures, first deactivate the archive then reactivate again.

Yep only way to go, really the solution is to use the Steam backup option before adding anything new that could break things :/

Is it crashing when you install any mod?

Also, did you remember to install NVSE? I can't think of much else that would cause crashes with multiple mods when vanilla works fine.

If it's one particular mod that narrows the problem down significantly.

Well, everything worked until I added the Needs Hud (Primary Needs?) and the skeleton for BBB. Here is what I did during the thread.

Fully uninstalled.

Loaded up the basic game and started a new game. - No crash

Put NVSE and the 4GB loader in. Started a new game. - No crash

Copied the backup of my data folder over. Started a new game. - Crash

In the backup I had removed the primary needs esp. But it still crashed. My guess is either A) there is something really messed up with the skeleton.nif but I got it from here so I doubt that or B) something is majorly corrupted in my data folder. When I copied it back I left all the DLC and Fallout main files behind and basically just copied the mod esps, esms, textures, and meshes but it still crashed.

Hm. Perhaps one of the ESMs or ESPs got corrupted somehow.

FWIW, I use both a bouncing skeleton (the one from BNB) and the Primary Needs HUD and my game runs fine, so it must be something specific with your data files or your load order or something.

Do you have/use Wrye Flash? It can really help identify problems, sometimes.

Might be the skeleton. I downloaded one from this site and my game started crashing every time I load a save. Removing the skeleton, and going back to the old one solved my problem. Though, I don't really remember what I downloaded or whether I applied it correctly.

The skeleton crashes my game as well.

You guys should try the BNB one. Just download BNB and only install the meshes folder, then install whatever body mod you want on top of that (there will be some overwriting).

I haven't tried the one uploaded here but it sounds like that must be the problem.

edit: or I can just upload the files you need here later, after I get home, if you like.

It was indeed the skeleton. Using the first one in both _male and _1stperson meant I couldn't play. Using the alt version in _1stperson I'm able to load and play with all my mods intact!

Yeah... it does that with some people for some reason... very strange. I'm thinking that some replacer or other needs the alt version to work, which would explain why it only happens to some people and not all of us.

please do, If I don't like it, it's easy enough to uninstall.

Here you go. Should be able to just drop this into your data folder and go.

Oh hey that worked flawlessly. Thanks a ton.

I think you have to have those specific animation files which I didn't.
