Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 You're on SE and you take an esp and flag it as an ESL. What does this do for an LE user? I have plugged in SE mods that are flagged as an ESL and on my end it is just an esp file. My MO1 and xedit on LE does not acknowledge file as being flagged as anything. Do we think the flag should be removed when backporting? Does MO2 users on LE have mod read as an ESL file?
Tlam99 Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 It doesn't matter, it's an unused flag among many others. The problem is not the flag but the users ?
MorePrinniesDood Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 ESL is a SSE-exclusive flag. it will do nothing on LE.
Harvald Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 You can use esl flagged esp in Skyrim LE without any problem. You can remove the flag with Tes5edit/SSEdit as you like.
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted October 29, 2021 Author Posted October 29, 2021 Great responses. I was playing with some JK SE mods, mod page said flagged as an esl, but since I dont have that flag on LE my setup was reading it as an esp. This gave me a green light to proceed. Still wanted to hear some outside voices cause things seeming right arent always right. Glad I got some info that suggested I was not thinking wrong on things.

Did you successfully backport the Esl-flagged SE mod to LE? I tried to backport some followers and every time I tried, the followers won't show up in game.

I followed this instruction: https://tes5edit.github.io/docs/8-managing-mod-files.html#AddingESLflagtoaPlugin and tried to do the opposite to remove the esl flag. When I open the esl-flagged esp, go into "File Header" section and edit the "Record Flags" field in Tes5edit, the esl tick is not shown anywhere ???

It is in ("unused") line 9 , two lines below ("localized"). Yes it is not shown in Tes5 edit cause it is not used in Skyrim LE.

But for esl-flagged esp, the followers won't show up in game. That's why I want to remove the esl flag. If it's not shown in line 9 or somewhere then how can I remove it?

There must be an other reason because I have more then 10 followers with esl flag ingame and all are shown. Which one is it? an other way to remove is load to CK change anything of the follower stats change back and resave, cause CK will ignore the esl flag while saving
Myst42 Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 So far It's been harmless but I did have some doubts on this process when another thing is done to turn a plugin into ESL That is when an option is used to rename the references I'm guessing this process also has no effect on backported plugins?

It's possible. Then I changed some stats and saved. Still, the follower doesn't show up. I backported a mod with 2 options: normal esp and esl-flagged esp. You know the result, esl-flagged one doesn't show the follower in game. That's why I think the esl caused the bug. But yeah, maybe it's also because of other reasons. Tks, anyway.
Schweini Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Hey, I know this is not related to the topic but since you guys seem to have experience, I wanna ask: Normally, I successfully port Human or Elf mods from LE to SE. My porting method is using SSE Nif Optimizer for meshes, textures and Creation Kit for esp. But when I port other-race npc mod like Khajit or Argonian .... (for example: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/63819), I get Purple face bug. And sometimes for Human follower mod (for example: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73955), I get invisible NPC bug. Does anyone know how to fix these? Thank you!
