Can't leave dayspring

Recommended Posts

What happens when you try to fast travel?  Are you getting a specific message on your screen?

What happens if you try to walk out?  is it crashing, or are you getting an infinite loading screen?  Does the game freeze?  Or does it simply not allow you to walk through and keeps you in the zone with no freeze or ctd?

Sorry,  just re-read my post and realized I left out the important part;  when I try to leave CTD every time.  No messages just CTD.

Can you post your plugin list in a spoiler?

If you are running Legendary Edition are you using Crash Fixes?  (If not, see the link to stability in my signature)

What happens if you go to a previous save from before you went into the canyon, and just run in there and try and run back out, does it still crash?

If you killed anything outside of dayspring and you try to go out and crash, try waiting 30 days for all cells to clear and see if that works. I entered certain interiors with no way of leaving and that did the trick. I believe its a broken script attached to a dead body so waiting the 30 days resets everything. Try these two skse plugins to make it easier: 'Faster Sleep Wait', and 'No Boring Sleep-Wait Menu' The first is obvious, the second allows you to wait 30 days at a time as opposed to the 24 vanilla allows.

Good luck

:Edit: both above mods are on nexus.

If that happened to me this is what worked most of the time:

  • waiting a hour
  • checking save with fallrimtools/clean SKSE co-save
  • leave followers behind with wait, change cell and let them teleport to you via your follower framework
  • coc to somewhere not too crowded (leave your followers behind)
  • check with TES5edit if there are mod conflicts for that cell (in my case I would manipulate the smash patch for conflict resolution), for example any custom mods (follower/quest) that change the cell
  • check if no NPC approach you (force greet) or your followers via LL mods; check if some follower is still fucking around somewhere (wait function of your follower framework helps with that too. They won't try to fuck and to cell change with you at the same time)
  • maybe a follower wants to approach you (force greet) because of a quest but got stuck

thanks for the answer.  I did wait, don't have a follower, no forced anything from an NPC, didn't try to fast travel anywhere in dayspring only outside (didn't realize there was anywhere there to COC to).  The only potential follower problem I could possibly have would be the Chole quest DCUR forces on you in Helgan dungeon at start of game (if you know how to get rid of that annoying quest please let me know.

One last thing.  I can't use fallrimtools because you need Java which I don't have and can't get …  Unless you know of a way to install Java that no one else on google knows - including the makers of Java.

Sort of a moot point in a way since I started an new game, but a solution would be helpful if this should happen again.

Chloe is not considered a follower by the game until you actually talk to her after hearing the sound and agree to take her on as a follower.  To see if you have any followers, you can always use the command

show playerfollowercount

I don't understand why you are saying you can't install JAVA.  Unsupported operating system?  Can't download the file?

If a mod/quest prevents you from fast travel (or the cell you are in) I thought console coc <ID> helps despite travel limitations ?

DCL also has an option in MCM to remove travel limitations (if wearing DDs), I'm not sure tho if DCL quest travel limitations can be deactivated that way.

You only get forced to do so if you installed the DCUR alternate start addon (at least with DCL 8+, not tested if it got better with DCL 9). Without it you are free to visit Chloe as soon as you feel ready for it (by entering Helgen dungeon).

Some quest that run in the background and don't get continued indeed can make the game unstable. The Dawnguard quest to visit Soul Cairn seems to be one of those.

I wouldn't be surprised if DCUR quest can cause similar issues if you keep them unattended.

Sometimes it helps to continue those quests to the next quest stage via console, but this also includes the risk to break the quest or related NPC for good. I use that solution only as last resort (if the quest stage needs an item to finish it's better to console the item instead of changing the quest stage). Usually I use this rather brutal solution if it's clear that the quest is broken/stuck/unfinished/bugged/glitched/conflicts/you name it.

I try to finish quests chains like Soul Cairn first before starting something else (if I can resist).

Here is a guide how to use console to find and change quest stages:

Thanks for the information.  I did indeed start the Chloe quest then left her somewhere, at an inn maybe, so that might be the problem.  I can't find the alternate start where she might have been added.  I guess I need to find her and finish that stupid quest, well stupid for me anyway since I hate any kind of follower, even the ones you have to do to finish the main "side" quests.  Next play through I'll just leave her to rot in the dungeon If I can't find the mod which adds her.

As for Java, I can download it and install but always get an error message after installation is finished - been a long time since I've tried and my memory is almost as bad as our current "leader", so have no idea what the error message said.  I might also mention that I've tried with several browsers and the desk top version.

I hope you downloaded it from the right page: https://www.java.com/en/

IIRC DCL asks via FOMOD if you want to install the DCL LAL addon.

If it is installed you should see a DCL LAL addon esp in your Load Order (and it should be below LAL).

It's too long ago I had it installed so I can't re... let's search.
