New Day New Issue - Random Game Freezes in towns or cities

Recommended Posts

Looks like my Skyrim is not going to be fixed - thanks to everyone who tried to help. Going to have to reinstall and start again next week with less mods I think and hope I don't end up with the same freezing issue.

I've even tried rolling back 20 or so saves and uninstalling the recent added mods, still nothing

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK I thought everything was working ok. Running around the wilderness beating up bandits works ok.

within a minute or 2 of entering a city or town my game freezes. I even tried Falkreath which does not have a load screen and it still freezes when I get a little way into town.

Sometimes I have a minute sometime it happens straight away.

I use mod organizer 2 and have gone through Loot to try and fix it.

I have tried everything I can think of but cannot fix it. All my animations work fine.

Any help is appreciated

Load order would be a start.

Its mostly guesswork, honestly.

 In case of CTD its easier, that one happens when you encounter an error, mod trying to load a bad/non existing asset etc. Freeze on the other hand can be a whole lot of things. Perfectly funcitonal build can just run out of memory and freeze, i imagine. So your specs might be relevant as well.

 With empty hand  - id check your memory usage in towns. Might be hardware issue, not a build one. Then i'd check save file for errors and clean it up if neccecery with this https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5031

If that does not help - id go checking the following one by one:

 If problem is specific to settlements - do you have any mod that affects all those settelements? Replacers, reworks, city beautyfiers etc. If yes - try disabling, Fallrim tools your save just in case (most of those arent scripted, but wont hurt), see if it helped.  If no - proceed to the next step. Wich would be NPCs, cities tend to have dense population, so - do you have any mods that add more NPCs? Populated series etc. Then anything that can screw with NPCs in general and AI in particular.

 Finnaly, loot is not infailable, if i sort my load order with it - ill get CTDs in several places. If anything else fails - you might want to go over you load order and look for logical mistakes if you're confident with your judgement. If no - id stick to LOOT. Its not perfect, but close enough to it.

Found the memory usage in task manager it runs at about 40% out in the wilderness

Went into whiterun at night and it seemed ok. As soon as other people appeared in the day is when it crashed so I am guessing it has something to do with the amount of people around me then.

I have cleaned up my latest save with fallrim but this has not helped (or hindered so it can't be a bad thing).

Still not sure how to copy my load order off of mod organizer though

if the number of NPCs is a problem - try setting your memory usage in skse.ini to 1024 (or higher)

If you cannot copy&paste your LO, make screenshots. Hit the "print" button on your keyboard, paste that into mspaint (or your favourite graphics tool) save as jpeg, attach to posting.

Load Order Printscreen attached

This is how Loot Sorts it for me

I'm still not sure how to do the SKSE.ini memory usage thing but maybe the loaad order is wrong and I won't need it..

you should find the skse.ini in Data/skse and looks like this:

[General]
ClearInvalidRegistrations=1
[Display]
iTintTextureResolution=2048
[Memory]
defaultHeapInitialAllocMB=1024
scrapHeapSizeMB=384

(at least for LE. I have no idea if it would be different in SE, or where you'd store it for MO2)

Cannot say much to that, don't know most of the mods.

two things look weird for me:

No.82 is BrumaJopPatch, and No.121 is Jop Bruma Patch.

Just from the names I would assume, that one of those is outdated.

And what is that LeatherBackPack using 16 slots, from 43 to 58? You should either merge that, or decide which on you want to use.

and you should load anything SOS related (65,68) after the main esp of Schlongs of Skyrim (88)

everything else just looks like heavy load on your machine for optics

No file named skse.ini in my skyrim folder anywhere that i can find.

The SKSe folder just has another folder called plugins which have some .bin files in them thats it

I tried removing sexymove as someone elsewhere said this can be a bit resource hungry.

Am now at a loss on what else i can do other than ditch my character and start again without a lot of the mods.. which is not very appealing.

Your loadlist looks reasonable. Most computers should be able to handle less than 150 mods. Your computer specs are unknown but unless you are using 4K textures on a low end GPU, you shouldn't have any problems.

So most likely there is a mod conflict. As mentioned in a previous post, LOOT is not perfect. You should sort your mods manually. Mod load order does matter.

Some potential candidates for problems:

- You are using Beyond Skyrim mod. Look at Nexus site for that mod. A number of problems have been reported.

- Helgen Reborn mod may also cause problems.

- Sexlab Aroused Creatures mod is rather script heavy. Maybe look at MCM menu options to reduce load on script engine.

- JK's Skyrim is a rather big overhaul mod. Maybe there is a conflict with other mods.

A gazillion possible reasons for problems. Sometimes reinstalling game can solve problems but then you have to configure the whole setup again (like any hacks you did to ini files etc). It should be absolutely last solution, so first try to make a base setup with limited number of mods and create new game. Test it and if working without freezing, then add more mods and test again. This way you should be able to pinpoint when the freezing starts.

While debugging, i suggest you use Live Another Life mod to avoid slow default game intro.

To check, run an experiment:

Rename SKSE/plugins/skee64.dll (whatever). This is the RaceMenu mod.

Repeat the conflict situation.

If it helps, I will explain what the matter is.
