HabibHanson Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 Been having an issue where randomly saves will only load to a black screen with sound. Sometimes closing the game and reloading a couple times fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. Been driving me up the wall as of late so I was wondering if anyone has any advice or insights as to how to fix this. anjenthedog Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 I've found (after forcing the screen to "open" (ie unblank) that SKSE is down when I do so. characters are t-posed, If/when the menus will even come up, SKSE dependent MCMs won't open, the whole game is stalling... (sans a static image of wherever I am, plus the audio) I don't bother with unblanking any more, since I know pretty much what it boils down to (SKSE is failing.. not that IT is the reason, but it becomes effectively failed state) so my own choice is to exit, clean the save with fallrim (not always dirty but doesn't hurt to check) and restart. Most often it was just a "bad" load (for whatever reason) and everything comes up fine... but If it persists, then I presume something's likely wrong with my mod list and I'll started wondering if that last mod(s) I installed might not be such a the nice new kid(s) on the block after all.

FNIS logs are clean and LOOT/NMM doesn't kick back anything. What I find strange is that it typically is more common if the save is in an interior. That being said fallrim comes back clean on script instances and forms so I know its not those.
anjenthedog Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 If it's just intermittent, and if it happens to happen on cell transits (doors, cave entrances, etc) , it often comes back ok if you reload the last save (made during transit). And as to why idk. And if it happens a lot, well, I hate to be the bearer... but there's always widenet search on "Skyrim black screen on cell transition". You could further isolate it by inserting "special edition" into the query, but for starters it might be best to cover both versions, since LE solutions often pan out in SE for things like this, PS> I got quite a few hits when I tried that first query on duckduckgo
