I decided to drop Adobe completely. That's right, everything.

It was a tough decision because nothing really competes at the same level as Adobe as far as features or workflow. However, after working with the latest version of GIMP, it has substantially impressed me. The three biggest things I miss from Adobe Photoshop is action recording, Adobe Bridge, and DDS compression compatibility with Intel. The good news is that there is a way to do these in GIMP.

1st.) GIMP as python fu for making macros (It's not as hard as it sounds, it's just learning the basic template for Python like from [ here ] and copy-pasting from the Gimp python library, then putting it into your scripts folder; it's also not quite apparent but for "image" you need to type gimp.image_list()[0] and for "drawable" you either type gimp.image_list()[0].active_layer or gimp.image_list()[0].layers[<whatever layer level you want by #>]). In fact I made this mod with a script I cobbled together, which I'll post later once I make it less hacky. Also, you have BIMP which basically you use to batch process a bunch of images using built-in scripts or your own custom ones, which is what I did here.

2nd.) xnViewMP is a good 3rd party app that sort of replaces bridge. It's an easy to use image viewer that you can pass images through from one program to another. Anyway, it's good enough, I just wish they'd make a clean uninstall that removes reedit and appdata files. I also wish it had a true darkmode, but there's a custom ini file [ here ] for a true dark mode.

3rd.) DDS compression I just use either DDSConv GUI or Cathedral Assets Optimizer. GIMP has DDS exporting, but it doesn't support BC7 compression which is noticeably better than BC 1,3, and 5 (obviously all of those are using BC1 color compression).

Anyway, TLDR, if you are thinking about getting better at Adobe for hobby work, I might take a second look at GIMP, it'll surprise you. It has brush smoothing, non-destructible editing (Although I guess in some cases this isn't true, if the forums are anything to go by), and it's quick at processing images compared to something like Krita. It just has a slightly higher learning curve for macro editing than Adobe and less streamlined documentation, but not to the extent where you can't find what you're looking for (Except my case of how to do a bokeh blur without using 3rd party plug-ins in python fu, apparently).

Hold one my dude. Got a shit ton more coming in. Now that I figured out how to script batch the whole stuff in GIMP, most of the work now is just weeding out my library. If you want to take a look in a day or two, that'd be much appreciated.

Sounds good! The process for compacting formids isn't too difficult but, if you don't wanna mess in XEdit I'll happily do it.

PS. Oh and if you are going to really smash it with quantity a BSA for the textures and meshes would help. Skyrim loads BSAs a little faster than loose files. I can package it up too. Or, if you are using the CK I think there is an option for packing it all up at the end of creating an ESP. I don't know too much about the CK though.

Right? I'm about to upload a 500 pack later today, once it's done processing. I really just need the practice with GIMP techniques and photo-editing decent H-art is far more interesting then parking meters and coffee shop photos.

EDIT: GoalPlan

Next upload is going to be awhile. Got some real life stuff to get back to, as much fun as playing around with GIMP is.

What I want to do for the next upload is have a batch program that uses google search for max resolution of each image that's on the next. I have a pretty good resolution for most, but some of the de-censored images were uploaded in lower res format compared to the originals.

Then get a solid script going that I can release and have normal people use it to basically turn any image they download into a beautiful wallpaper.

Here's that ESL Version for you. Direct replacement for the ESP for manual file users, override for MO2 users.

CCC_2K.esp

PS. Had a reproducible crash on start up with the BSA originally packaged. I unpacked and repacked the BSA and now it seems to be loading fine. Not placing any blame on PhysicsPunk, but if you have this issue repacking the BSA fixed it for me.

Interesting. I wonder why that is. Perhaps it's something to do with LE archiver?

Not very sure. Maybe something with compression? I think the BSA I ended up with was slightly larger than what came with the mod. I used MO2's prepackaged BSA packer.

PS. Also could have been due to compacting the FormIDs. Might be some sort of interaction between that and the BSA requiring it to be repackaged.
