Need technical info on BHUNP SMP physics

Hello !

I plan to buy a new laptop that will have a RTX 3070 and an Intel i7 11800, and I was wondering if it'll be enough to run Skyrim with SMP as I saw somewhere that SMP physics actually impacts fps a lot. I've never tried BHUNP SMP before, so I need some feedback from you guys, is it buggy, or does it run just fine ?

I played on Oldrim, should I move on Special Edition with my new PC or stick with Oldrim in your opinion ?

Thank you in advance !

I don't have any issues running SMP in Special Edition and I don't think I have ever experienced any FPS loss. I really think you only get an issue with SMP if you are on older hardware that possibly struggles with a modded game already or if you have a lot of SMP objects going at one time. When you install BHUNP it gives you options to manage performance and SMP is turned off be default when you launch the game. You get spells that lets you activate it so you can limit it to your character or a follower. The combo of CBPC and SMP is a much better looking and has less glitches then the old HDT physics.

Cant provide much in terms of "technical info". User experience thou, i can.

Body itself isnt bad for performance, definetly not for your setup. Possible performance issues may come from SMP enabled equipment, as they differ vastly in quality and demands.

To put it into perspective i can run SMP for PC and NPCs no problem while wearing a bunch of SMP enabled items with no issues.

On the other hand running around in COCO Joan of Arc SMP coat causes FPS drop for me. Its high quality, dont get me wrong, but it uses something like 15 chains of 18 bones with full body collision. Long story short - if you're reasonable with it SMP performance is not an issue even on old machine.

With your setup - you really should have no issues unless you go absolutely bonkers on it.

Thank you both for your replies !

So what I understood is that I need to be reasonable with SMP equipment, like to not equip SMP clothing and such on all my companions for instance ?

Also, @Armored Rogue, I don't get the CBPC and SMP combo ? What is it please ?

As I said, i'm pretty new when it comes to SMP, so I pratically don't know anything about it, since I've always played with HDT.

Also, if for some reason, I want to disable SMP physics for my character, will I still have physics work with the clothings ? Like switching between HDT and SMP ? Idk if what I say is clear tbh ahah

I recently set up a system for a friend with SE, BHUNP SMP and a very light ENB+Reshade combination. Custom low to medium settings. Runs 35+ outdoor and 50+ indoors, looks decent as well. That's a i5-4670, 8GB RAM and a GT1030 (!)

Obviously the SMP is limited to only followers - up to 3 is fine. Above that begins to crush the system a bit. All others run the CBPC physics.

The base skeleton supports both SMP and CPBC. I'm not aware of BHUNP and CBPC, but I converted the bodies from LE and had no issues with default physics. For a more soft-body feel I have to give a Havok object to the follower (or equip one if the PC is female). The objects are installed by the BHUNP mod, and are availabe using AddItemMenu.
